So...
Are you new here? I'm glad you showed up.
I'm Eric Wroolie. I make apps. And I run Overpass.
Overpass is a mobile app development agency based in Oxfordshire in the UK. I started it back in 2004 before there were even app stores!
Now, the company is myself and a small team of designers and developers. We outsource what we can and try to keep costs low, but I still code here and there.
My apps have been downloaded tens of millions of times globally and I have lived the ups and downs of being an app developer.
I started creating videos back in 2014 and have created over a thousand videos since. If you can't tell, I can talk about apps all day. We also talk about running a small business and self-improvement on this channel.
If you need an app created, my company can help you.
Or...
If you are an app developer, like most of the viewers on this channel, I hope our shared experiences will help you out too. There is nothing more satisfying than making money from apps.
If you haven't subscribed, we'd love to have you.

Me too 😕
If you holding team - is not a big money ... It's very small ... There are taxes, salaries and other, and other ... In absolute evaluation it's looking big, but it's very not that you will put in your own pocket.
Yor right it is very good but it is thousand of Pounds worth more then Dollars !!!!!
There is so many videos out there but yours is the best man. Thank you so much for being open and inspiring me. You're the best.
Thank you very much for being so open, is a great help to aspiring developers
+Kim Heaver Thanks Kim. I would show more (like AdMob), but I can’t show the RPM or impression numbers according to Terms and Conditions.

I love this content mate! i think you are doing great, you do analyse your stuff correctly, all you need really is to release new apps as simple as that... the old is gold but you gotta keep moving. I hope you all best my dear.
I subscribed now. You are great in the video. I'm a researcher on how children learn using piano...it's been a wonderful 20 year journey. I came to KZhead looking for knowledge on technology and I found you. Thank you!
Sir, you already a great teacher, I will be glad to be coached by you. Keep it up.
Thank you for your insight and openness. This has certainly opened my eyes to part of the developer world, which I hope to dive into later on down the road.
really nice of you to talk about it openly, i never understood this secretiveness about money, big thanks to you
Ive never seen someone be so down to earth whilst talking about making money. Love you energy mate.

Thank you so much for this. Super helpful.
Great video. Going to go into this myself. Not for the money, purely because I can teach myself new skills. Any money I make is always nice to go along with it

You are an inspiration for young people like me Sir.
Super helpful, thank you for sharing!!
Such an honest man. I've happily subbed. Hope to learn as much as I can from ya as I have found myself a first-time app owner.. (entered a bid in on flippa and won the dang thing) hahah but I'm excited and we'll see what happens! Good luck with you and all of the other developers and owners here on your channel seems like a bunch of nice helpful folks!
Thanks. I’m glad you are here.
You're really a nice and honest man! And thanks for such an information ..it's really motivating..and one more thing ...Lots of Love from India 😉😉😋🤗

Thank for a video on Sunday! Yeah!
+RonnyNews Thanks. I’m going to try to do a bit more... let’s see how this goes :-)
Thankyou for the value you gave in this tutorial I now have a better understanding of what and how an app works in earning money with them I appreciate the golden nuggets and that mostly everyone is constantly trying to learn new ways in the wonderful world of our ECO system the Internet.
Coincidentally, I have actually downloaded one of your apps in the past. (The hearing aid app) And here I am watching one of your videos a few months later.
Thanks for sharing that, Eric. A lot of our apps (certainly the older established ones), are used more in India / Indonesia than US/Europe these days and so RPMs are down, despite always having the same impressions over the years. I found that the newer apps that we developed (last year), have more popularity in the US/Europe than India and therefore RPMS are strong. But the key would be to increase RPMs in India. Love to find out how. I'll certainly be trying the idea from Abdelghafour Driowya!
Thanks for sharing that, Tom. I think I need to try that idea too. I wonder if it will help.
Hey, Eric great video. I'm planning to start app business. How many months should I wait before expecting my first revenue.? Do I have to spend $ for marketing our apps.
Thank you for the high opener sir.. You're fantastic! I Subscribe
Yo Eric, I'm a new subscriber here. can you make some advice on how to come up some ideas like do you read some scripts on it? thanks :)
Thank you for sharing your reports. It will help us. Thank you :)

Thanks Samuel
Appreciate the transparency man!
Thanks, Bryan.
I hope you do not mind me asking however, is this based on one app, or multiple applications, and if so, what kind of apps are they?
Hi Eric, how are you? I'd like to know how many apps do you have to do this amount of money. I really like your work. Good luck!
Thanks for the insights 😁
Ironic how I saw you in the comments. I love your tutorials :-D

Thank You for uploading your video, I found it very informative. I just have a few question...first, do I need to give Google my bank account number for them to use if I decide to use their ad mob? Then second will I need to get an IRS EIN NUMBER application for federal tax ID purposes if I do business in the US?
Great Video, thanks for your tranparency
Thank you for the video.
and here I earn 1$ per month :)
You are still at a better place than those who earn nothin, like me :)

Thanks, Michael. Welcome.
Is there a way to specifically control which advertisers you promote on your app? Like, if you have one specific company you want to display ads for
thanks for sharing!
Are you looking into using Flutter? build once for Android and iOS and eventually Web and Desktop. btw thanks for your video!
Thank you very insightful video
I'm looking at this 2 years after it was published (March 2020), and enjoyed the honesty in your presentation. I have just one question. How many apps was the figures based on please?
Do you monotise your apps?
Hi, nice video...how many apps is that revenue for? and how much money did you spend in advertising those apps ? Thank you :)
Love the intro music :)
What are the name of your apps? And how many do you have? Thanks in advance! Great vid!
Hi I honestly love your videos! One question what programming language did you use to make an app? (The app you are talking about on the video)
Thanks luusuf. I mostly use native iOS and Android, Ionic, Corona, and ReactNative for projects.
What about Adobe cs6 I edited video & audio for diff online customers always wanted to learn & use the other programs for web & app building

Hello there,i'm new here i mean this is my first video that i watched from you. so i spent around 10 hours per day Playing games on my Computer, and i got idea that i should try to make games for Android,so i wan't to start making 2D games for android,Can you give me advice's and basic tips ? Like what Program is best for making such games(if there's any free) and if program require something like codes,etc... Where can i learn all that. is it hard to make 2D games for android,i have bunch of idea's and i wan't to use them.and try to make some money.
Thanks for the vid! Please tell us, many people are wondering, how many apps is this based on?
if one person watch multy time one add is play store pay for first watch are for every watch. i'm waiting for your replay
Hi Eric , try to change admob id unit. Advertisers tend to filter their ads on apps , if a lot of high paying advertiser stop showing ads on your app the rpm goes down. Best way is to make admob ad unit remotely so you can change it from time to time
+Abdelghafour Driowya This is interesting. Is it legal? Are you saying to use some kind of remote config (like Firebase) to change the ad unit id?
I think there's nothing in admob policy or adsense that prevent you from changing banner & interstitial id. By remote i mean, storing banner & interstitial ad unit in a website and retrieve it in the splash screen for example. so you can change it any time.
may be firebase can do the same (never use it)
Very interesting. It's cool to see how other developers do things. Cheers
Never apologize for your success. If you developed the idea, built it, & marketed it, own that success. You made it happen.👍
I see a good man, I subscribe
Thanks, Hassan.
Completely off-topic, but I keep wondering: How have you lived in the UK for nearly twenty years without picking up even a slight accent? Maybe that phenomenon depends on the person. I moved from New Jersey to North Carolina and only lived there a year and it put a little south in my accent.
+Eric Vaughan Haha. Thank you. Certain members of my family back home think I’m getting an English accent but no on here does. I guess it’s because I was 25 when I moved here and it was pretty much settled in.
Oh come on! Can't you see the Flag of Freedom in the background :D
I am a Pakistani that has never been outside of Pakistan. I have a Pakistani accent wit a dash of an american accent. I think it's because of the popularity of the American entertainment industry.
😂🤣 I thought the same thing. Must be a fact background lol.
Hi Erik, thanks a lot for your videos, you're one of a kind. I'm a developer from Argentina and trying to run my bussiness through in-app subscriptions on Android. Do you have any advice on this matter? Thanks!
Thanks so much Pablo. Wow! Argentina! I am going to answer this this week
Overpass Apps 1 year later lol
2 years later lol
does this money gets taxed at the end of the year or did they already taxed the money by the time you get it ?
So i made a game with Unity and i am going to publisert it on appstore. How do i out in ads when i can?
Really useful video and info. Thanks for the up
Thanks, Mike!
@@OverpassApps It just makes such a refreshing change not to be confronted with a madcap enthusiast who's either trying to flog something or hype the living daylights out of the subject. So many others should take a long hard look at your approach and try to follow your lead.
Wow! Thanks so much, Mike.
good vid, subscribed.
Hi Eric, i was wondering if I could get a consultation with you. I have an amazing idea. But im not a developer and im at a wall
that's an interesting way to keep track of your earnings. I'm brand new to this and I got so much insight
Thanks, Acid Blood. I used to only look at AdMob, but it’s better to have all the sources in one place to look at.
How many applications you have in the market which uses admob? 150 = ?apps
Love humility.
I just got into making app games.- right now im just following tutorials trying to keep up, - it's super hard epsecally C# when having no idea about all this. - but hey finally soon made my first game, from a tutorial, i wont do anything with it as i just followed along the tutorial. - BUT I GOT A QUESTION FOR YOU!!. - okay so if i make my own game, and want to realese on app store, i read so many rules to publish it,- how do i publish it ? i mean if i have the game checked myself to see if there is no bugs & crashes, if its bug free, and no crashes, and beta tested, would it deffently get accepted then ? if the game is okay? and ofcs following the rules, of no racisim & p*rn etc ?
The fee of $25 in Console Developer, is a one time payment or you have to pay that for each app you make?
It is one time only.
@@OverpassApps do you have any app developing tutorials for those on Chromebooks or maybe developing websites? im trying to get into making progressive web apps and android app development
@@oceanvaldez5983 udacity android
The reason for low RPM for last 6 months or so is Google stopping native ads and pushing all the app developers to downgrade to banner ads. After doing the above, I too saw a drop in RPM. Google will be releasing Native advanced in around march. Let's hope we get to those steady good RPM rates again.
Love the Video
Millionaire and Billionaire is not everything. I loved your honesty and thus liked your video ♥️
Thanks.
Do you have apps that does not make an income? or else what is the minimum and which app it is? Thank you
after publish in play store, i am not able to see my own game even if i type exact name. why?
thanks bro.
Thank you for these videos! By the way, that's not low.
+Praharsh Bhatt Thanks Praharsh. You’re always the first one here :-)
Best part about this is, this is a passive income fix.
How many Apps is this spreadsheet based on? Kind of hard to get a judgement on an ave per app profit with that info, unless I missed that somewhere. Great videos, thx!
Hey Heidi. It’s a few dozen but only about 3 bring in most revenue.
Awesome...I hope people will get the main message from your video: Develop because you develop. Make money by experimenting with how people like what you developed. Don't turn it around, don't look at making money and think what you should develop. That will just not work..or perhaps it does, but is that really you?
The biggest myth in the mobile application market is that no one buys paid applications and that money can only be made on free applications with advertising. If you make a good product, put a price tag on it. My biggest advice to indie developers is to not rely on advertising for income.
Yeah. Advertising works when everything is free... but when everyone is doing it supply outstrips demand and ad revenue drops like a stone. Purchases are the most reliable thing and the only thing you have control of.
@@OverpassApps Well said!! Great video by the way. I was a 35N (formerly a 98C) in the Army so it sounds like we have a similar background.
You were a Charlie??? I was a Golf! I didn't know they changed the MOS numbers. Which language? Or were you a non-language interrogator?
Overpass Apps Charlie’s didn’t typically get language school when I went through unless they were previously a Golf. I was an analyst. The army changed the entire 98 series to the 35 series around 06 or 07. 98G is now 35P and 98C is now 35N.
Hey man, the next step is to leave it on autopilot and not pay attention to it. Take as much time off as possible off your computer/phone screen. Your brain will start to become more creative and another idea for inapp purchased model will come to you or a brand new app.
Is this revenue from one app or multiple apps?
Great video ;)
I'm very curious... how many apps are represented by the figures you disclosed? Is that (passive) income just from your ear agent app (or, a total of all your apps)? Also, with free downloads... are you gaining revenue on ad clicks in the app? or ... ? I would love to pick your brain! For now, I'm a new subscriber and I will look for answers in your videos. (thanks!)
Thanks El. It is a total of all my apps.
Sir I just done to create my first game now, what should I do to earn money from my game
so what exactly is your app out in the appstore?
Thank you
Which app is this? In google play and app store?
how much downloads does your app have
could someone build a app, that would turn on when a phone gets within a certain distance for a activator unit? Lets say if you have a store app installed, then you drive by the store, could the app turn when you get with in range?
Alex Peters yea, u just have to save the activator unit location then rely on geofence to detect when the phone is in range. nice idea btw.
You mentioned you have someone to 'go to all the different sources' can you elaborate? Does that mean all the app stores? My apologies for my ignorance, just getting into app dev. Great post! thanks so much!
No problem. I just mean that I look at one figure each day. Like Admob. It’s easy to see in one place. But if I try to also Google Play app sales, iOS app sales, other ad networks, etc... it’s many things to check and I was finding I would forget to look. And it’s embarrassing to not know now well you are doing. So, I have a person on my team who puts all these sources in a spreadsheet each day so I can see how we are doing. If there is a drop, I know I have to do something quick
Thanks Sir Best of luck in your life ^__^
so thankful I can fully help my family thanks to this *2OnlineJobs. Com*
