Some one made a comment about having a different player, Such comments are not necessary,
Taylor was trying too hard to also cover Leylah‘s side of the court, which often led to her being caught in awkward, unbalanced positions. I’m sure this must have been noticed by Leylah, who ended up missing easy shots on important points. She must have been thinking, ”why is Taylor trying to hit balls that are coming to me? Does she not trust that I’ll make the shot?“ and that’s pretty much the problem when two players differ so much when it comes to doubles abilities… one always tries to compensate for the other, and that can interfere psychologically with the weaker player.
The little we saw of it certainly indicates that. I hope they watch replays and learn from this. No sure why Sportsnet does not make any effort to showcase our talented Canadian tennis players everytime they play. I’m sure there is a sizable audience out there which will only grow.

In my opinion Townsend should look for a better doubles player. No offence to Leylah but look at the amount of volleys she failed to putaway. Often getting outhit on the baseline rallies as well as giving easy volleys to opponent at the net. This team is extremely vulnerable on Townsend serve as Leylah isnt helping out at the net.
They made the finals and I don’t think it would have happened if they both weren’t playing their best. Watching highlights doesn’t give us the full picture
@@alamin-fr8rc i have been watching this pair. Townsend is excellent in doubles. Dun give much away and very active at the net. Meanwhile Leylah is giving too many free points away. Townsend probably need a doubles partner like Gauff or Sabalenka…

@@gitanablanca2 actually he's right, the old saying goes, the only thing worse than having to watch women's doubles, is having to watch women's doubles match that goes into a tie-break /overtime...
Coco was the player of the match. Jessica was off her game and Coco was hot! Taylor was pulling double duty on her side of the net but she started being overly aggressive and made too many unforced errors. If Leylah wants to continue in doubles she really needs to improve her net play as the opponents will always target her as the weak link. It was a good first set but the writing was on the wall in the second. Well done ladies!
Leylah needs also to improve her smash, a lot... Really poor coaching that she never reallhy learned it.
It feels like 4 singles players playing "let's smash". Barbora and Katerina are in a league of their own.
I think Coco was on mission smash every ball she could.
Leyla was the weak link for Taylor. She caused her to lose
I thought it was the exact opposite in the final. Leylah’s serve and speed made the first set tight. Taylor is superb at the net but I think she tries to do too much. Regardless they have good chemistry.
