NOSY NEIGHBOR Approached Me While Mowing An OVERGROWN Lawn

2023 ж. 15 Қар.

I was trying to help a lady out by mowing her overgrown lawn when a nosy neighbor approached me and wants to know who I was and why I was mowing this property. I really don't like to get involved with homeowner / neighbor drama so I just listened and then got back to work. There are always 2 sides to every story and I know that the person who owns this property is helping someone else out in need and that is why this property has not been maintained the way it probably should.

  • What The Heck has happened With A Sense of Community?!?! So people (Karen’s) now a days just Report People in Hopes They get charged and/or Fined for Not Mowing their Lawn?!?! “Help Your Neighbour” has certainly gone by the way of the Dodo Bird. Nonexistent and Extinct. Brian love what you do!!! ♥️

    • Well, why wouldn’t the lady who obviously is a hoarder take advantage of Brian‘s offer to clean up the property .I don’t blame the neighbor who wants to live next to that and look at her garbage people need to take responsibility for their own property unless, of course, they are physically incapable, obviously the lady is capable of cleaning up her property because she told Brian that she wants to go through it all so I think to call the neighbor a Karen is way off base.

    • As one who has a neighbor who refuses to throw things away, I emphasize with the neighbor. Her family is at risk because this woman’s home and trash aren’t dealt with like you should expect it to be. This owner needs to get help on the inability to throw even a broken easy up away. Brian - I admire your ability to make do and improve things, but I do think this was a selfish ask by the homeowner. You did a wonderful job and are a good human 😊

  • I spent a couple of years helping an older hoarder cat lady with her lawn and it was a constant battle just for simple things like moving 50-60 plastic planters into the back yard even though the plants had died years earlier so I could mow the lawn more efficiently, believe it or not it was a good thing when code enforcement would ticket her, it gave motivation to clean up more of the property. This was a nice big house on three acres that about one acre in the back had returned to forest, at the end of two years I had the front and side looking good with all the "stuff" hidden in the back yard and she was able to sell it and move near Seattle.

    • @@TopNotchLawns Yes, it was very hard at first cause it was overgrown due to her lawn mower wouldn't start, which is how I got involved when I said I'd look at it, it became easier physically after the first mow and then became a mental battle with her hoarder illness. What was ironic is that she was funny, smart, educated, daughter of a dentist, widow to a doctor, she just fell victim to a mental illness in later life.

Like Brian said, we don't know what the neighbor had done in the past to try to help out or try to find a compromise that would be acceptable to both sides. Just like we should be kind and considerate of this homeowner, we should also be kind and considerate of this this neighbor.

  • I get it about being understanding with neighbors. In all fairness to the lady that said she has rodents and snakes: the neighbors behind us has for over 40 years have a huge fallen tree stump, garbage, holes in their roof, vines growing out of their roof up the walls. When we moved here six years ago we helped them for a few months to mow their lawn free which we assumed no one would help. After months of bringing food, a window unit at no cost to these twin 70 year old hoarders , one day one of them called and asked why did i want a cement cinder block from her yard. I told her I changed my mind, left it there and no longer wanted it. She went on and on until I finally told her why I wanted the cinder block ( that was full of mud and they probably didn’t even know was there until I’d brought it up). After that we realized what we had been doing to help them was not working out. We stopped and their yard went back to tall. They never spoke to us again. But because of their garbage, people have seen raccoons going into the holes in their roof, we’ve had about six huge raccoons in our backyard one night for example that took off to their yard when we turned on the lights. Snakes, huge rats, raccoons, possums… we called the city to help us to no avail. There’s children in our subdivision, people that these rodents carry diseases. So it’s past just “let’s not judge or criticize” the hoarders next door; what about being clean so others are safe, they also have a responsibility for taking care of their property. And it’s not being mean when neighbors are concerned. So yeah, we and others tried helping, were understanding until their rodents decided our property was included. Does this not make any sense to others? When we see just snippets of such vlogs, let’s not just assume the “nosy neighbor” is being snoody because they’re heartless. Come on.

  • I had a neighbor looked like that. I finally realized that her nephews were dumping stuff without her permission so I did get the city involved, because she was an elderly lady being victimized. So, you just never know. You have to look deeper sometimes. Elder abuse can happen anywhere and it is everyone's business to look after our vulnerable neighbors. In this case, of course, the lady wanted her stuff, and that's just fine.

It is difficult for them to part with anything, even trash. I know it's hard on neighbors who have to look at a mess every day but until she realizes she has an illness and receives the help she needs, it will never change. Hopefully, someday, someone will convince her to get help and the situation will change. Don't feel bad you couldn't do more for her but you have her yard looking nice and you can only do what the homeowner will allow you to do. You have a good heart and such good intentions, Brian, just remember that! Thank you for all you do and God Bless you and your family! ✝️🙏👍
