In a chippy finals bout at the 2020 Pan-American Championships, Jordan BURROUGHS 🇺🇸 defeated three-time Olympian Franklin GOMEZ 🇵🇷 to claim his fourth continental title.
With his win in Canada, Burroughs extended his Pan-Am win streak to 15 consecutive matches. He’ll look to keep that streak alive next week at the #WrestleAcapulco Pan-American Championships 🇲🇽where he’ll wrestle on Saturday, May 7.

Burroughs didn't quit attacking and got put on the shot clock what a joke
JB had like 35 shots in the first minute alone!!
@@fonetree more lousy officiating at the international level,
Absolutely!!!
They put the aggressive guy on the shot clock in the first so they get the benefit of last point scored if they do it in the second.
@@Nifac71A How about just call it fairly. JB was super active. If the other guy is inactive in 2nd...hit him again
Gomez was working the ref. The ref kept his eye on JB and since the ref wasn’t calling Gomez on anything, JB took it upon himself to dish out and old fashion ass whooping.
I love how Burroughs kept his cool.
Jurdain Hendricks I would submit Burroughs with my BJJ 😴
@@z2918 anything is possible.
Ezekiel Gardea if this was BJJ you would have a point. But this is wrestling. So he’d blast you off the mat.
@@jurdainhendricks7273 respect
Gomez should've been cautioned out of the match. guy was not looking to score at all in the second period, stayed on his knees a whole bunch to try to stall
When we out here watching the same youtube videos 😂
When you coming to ascend again buddy 😂
Right. I was surprised Jordan was put on the shot clock, since he was attacking more than Gomez.
Michael Choi and then wants to talk shit 🤦🏽♂️
Michael Choi OMG you and I went to high school together!
Love when people get mad when they get outplayed. What a man child you were even working the ref in your favor majority of the match.
JB defeated two opponents in this match.
Gomez and the Ref
Such an underrated comment 😂 love it
gomez picked his ankle and got in Jordan's face after the match ended. He had a whole 6 minutes to show you were tough and didn't! Low class.
Jake Nussbaum 100%
Lmao 😄😂🤣🤣
For real. What a joke
It looked like a mismatch,JB was too much for him.
Christopher Torres especially sad bc Gomez is a great wrestler and could prob give jb a decent match if he wasn’t just trying to play the ref and complain like a baby the whole time
I don’t understand how you can put on a shot clock when you take 10 shots back to back, and the other guy doesn’t even get one caution and he didn’t even go for one attempt for a takedown. He didn’t shoot even once and didn’t get put on a shot clock. But JB constantly changing levels and shooting and the ref keeps telling him he need more action from him. 🤔
It was so obvious too. Cautioned and was the aggressor, then was even more aggressive and still went on the clock!? There was a time where those head taps would not have been called either.
And JB constantly moving forward and commanding the center of the mat.
I'm new to freestyle and didnt understand what was going on. Did his opponent even attempt a legit takedown the entire match?
right on! that ref appeared either confused or biased right from the beginning. Something was really weird about the undercurrent during this whole match. Does anyone know if there is a history between these two?
exactly.. the first 1:30 JB dropped down and shot 3-4 times while the other guy stood there. And he put JB on the clock? I dont know wrestling that well but that makes no sense to me.
Like it or not, JB does his “bullying” while the clock is running, when he can be cautioned and penalized for it. At the end he could’ve used Gomez as a prop to push up on, but he didn’t cause the match is over. He didn’t react negatively to the guy picking his ankle after, because the match is over, he’s won. After being at the top of the sport for this long, having a growing family and ambassador status, he’s gotta be fully aware, calculating and in control during competitions.
Absolutely spot on Jermaine. But I think Franklin took exception to Burroughs when Jordan pushed his head down to the mat with both hands, rather than just placing them on his back and waiting for the whistle after Jordan's last takedown. I think that's why Franklin grabbed his ankle anger the whistle at the end. Burroughs playing a great mental game...
Not disagreeing with either of you guys, but watch again to see some next level head butting the entire match. This "head hand defense" stuff flys in high level competition, but is it dirty? I wouldnt want a piece of it that's all i know.
Rudy Soliz Christopher Bishop Oh yeah, there was a lot of “extra” going on in this match from both wrestlers! (maybe more from JB with posting on his Gomez’s head...) I recognize the extra stuff that’s used to send a message. The refs sort that stuff out. As long as they’re calling it even, and it doesn’t turn into a WWE match, it doesn’t bother me. In combative sports you have to match your opponents intensity. If not, then you better be exponentially more skilled than they are. The skill gap is usually not that big between world class competitors. Start looking for the ref to help you, then your opponent is probably in your head. See if he can take what he’s dishing out and let the refs do their job. Of course I’m a little biased because Burroughs is one of my favorite athletes...
Looked to me like Matos grabbed his ankle after the match because Burroughs was stepping on his left hand
@@olie1023 Right at about 9:02 (of this video) 'it looks like' JB's right foot is loosely on a few of the fingers of Gomez's left hand. Interestingly, I didn't notice JB ever see Gomez's hand go back to the matt as he stood up. - Although Gomez right hand seems to initiate the pick before/ just when his fingers were stepped on. - At the same time, JB didn't seem to surprised by it, so I doubt he didn't know that his foot 'happened to find it's way' onto fingers. Hehe. Both guys got their extras in. Ref didn't involve himself more than he should have. I have no problem with THEM playing like that.
Burroughs- *doesnt stop taking shots* Also Burroughs - *gets put on the shot clock*
Jordan just holding that dudes head in the ground was the best highlight of this whole match ! MERICA !
Gomez did all of completely nothing in this match. Bad officiating by all 3.
Extremely questionable refereeing
Appreciate this man while he’s still here, definition of great.
I loved that part where Burroughs sticks his head to the mat and keeps pushing him until he gets in his head 😂, that’s not the usual things he does but it’s awesome he still has the fight in him and isn’t afraid to get rough 💪 great match!
I bet that ref is from Puerto Rico, that was dominance.
Lol...he don't look like he's from PR
8:21 Burroughs trying to baptize💒 Franklin on the wrestling matt but he ain't even Catholic....lol
He deserved it
Jordan was the better wrestler! Gomez is just acting salty, he couldn't work a single attack, Jordan's defence was superior. Before Jordan was cautioned for the heavy hands - rightly so - Gomez dished out a few of his own. The call on Jordan for inactivity was messed up, Jordan showed more action the entire match than Gomez did!
Agreed, this ref was against Jordan all over the place, even tried to ignore that out of bounds. But Jordan dominated.
The ref does you a favour if they put you on the clock first. You will often see the more aggressive guy get the clock first round so that they get the single point second round (last point wins as one victory criteria). Don’t try to read too much into it.
Jordan showed more action the first minute than Gomez did the entire match.
I don’t think that was a rightful caution. The ref should realize that this is wrestling and heavy hands are part of the game
@@eltoroloco1936 100% agreed!
Got a little chippy in there. Lived it when JB gave him a couple face plants after the take down towards the end of the period.
I literally know nothing about this sport but it got recommended by YT, but that reff was on some BS 😂
That ref should be reprimanded! What the heck match was he watching. Jb did the lions share of the work!!!!!
It's levels to this!! Smelled blood in the water and went kill mode!!
That dude JB is relentless man. Breaking not only his opponents but his opponents coaches as well🤯. #DOG
2:23 -- what match is this ref watching? Stalling Burroughs? Awful.
How do you out shoot the guy like 3-0 and get hit for passivity?
JB made that guy look like he was on skates. His level changes are too good
Gomez got schooled .don't know what he was upset about.
the scoring rules of wrestling are very particular. Gomez may feel he is stronger/more physically capable as a wrestler and even be right. So being defeated by such a large margin must be frustrating. Jordan has so much experience that he probably never consciously thinks about scoring and preventing wasting effort, it just comes natural.
@@dfpguitar i dont see any strength. I cant call this gomez guy is stronger when he spent the whole match on his knees and sprawl out of fear at nothing every 20 second lol.
He's pissed off because he just got man handled like a silly drunken child, and then got his face pushed into the mat...lololololol
J.B. is one of the greatest Wrestlers in human history, just incredibly heroic and amazing to watch
This is what a seasoned veteran looks like.
Our old coach used to tell us - "You should of got mad before the match, not after!!!"
Simply amazing show on how to attack at all times. Amazing focus
2:40 - the ref is out to cheat him. He "waves off" the stepping out of bounds & then awards 2 & 2. WTF? You can screenshot Gomez's foot in the gray. This is crazy. Who reviews these things?
Reffing freestyle is a lot more challenging than it seems, compared to folk style. There are so many different things that refs have to look and account for, which can cause them to often mess up scoring, this is why each freestyle match has 3 referee's in total. One Judge on the mat, one at the score table, and another at a separate table. The mat referee's calls will not always stand, and can be overturned or confirmed by side judges, which is likely what happened in this sequence. You can also challenge in freestyle
It’s probably just that the referee hates the USA. He gave jb two passive warnings in a row when he was the aggressor and tried just ignoring the step out to give Gomez points. Jb beat Gomez and the ref at the same time
As a ref in the mat you sometimes put up the alternative to give the option. It was never going to stand but like Eli said, international reffing is more nuanced than folk style. The final score got it right.
well regardless of the ref's bias or incompetence..,whatever we choose to call it, even the two judges were like "nah bro, that's taking a little too far..."lmao
Thats why there are 3 officials....
Jordan's famous blast double and quick lace put him firmly in control. Crazy that he was put on the clock.
Wow was this ref from Peru!?! That's the most biased refereeing I've ever seen, at any level. Great job Jordan!
PUR stands for Puerto Rico. Also the place where the ref is from, my god that shot clock call!
lmao i think puerto rican but he kinda looks peruvian though lol
Dick head gringos can't even tell the difference. Burro is a dirty wrestler and an Uncle Tom who thinks he's a Gringo.
@@Achievetilldeath How do you know how Peruvians look? wtf lol
Good job Burroughs 👍 ✊✊✊
Bravo to Burroughs true sportsmanship and elite level wrestling
I'm Puerto Rican from Elizabeth Nj , and I wrestled in Highschool but I have to say this is my 1st seeing PR in a wrestling tournament
JB scored every point on the board! Also JB at the end is what this sport is all about, do all your proving while there is still time left. Afterwards, shakes hands and prepare for the next guy.
I love how JB got in his head and attacked the physical and mental. This is what frustrated Matos and JB's response at the end is just perfect.
Hahaha What a joke- is that ref seriously putting Jordan on a shot clock while the other guy hasn't even attempted a shot....
Jordan a savage at 8:21
Horrible officiating needs to be fired.
I love matches like that who wants it more? that's the kind of match it was. Hell!! Royce Alger wrestled like that EVERY MATCH!!. Forward forward forward and it's exactly what Jordan was doing win win win and keep going hard the guy just made excuses you can tell his coach's act the same way-
Man vs. Adolescent both physically and most importantly, mentally. JB recognized almost immediately that Gomez had "composure issues" and set the pace and flow of the match: JB instigates, Gomez reacts -- Burroughs the shot caller, literally.
THATS RIGHT YEAHHHH
Jordan broke him when he picked up the pace🤼♂️
Did that guy even come to wrestle? Overall shameful behavior by the Puerto Ricans. He got dominated.
Great match
Class act JB
So dominate!!!
Great sportsmanship JB!
Силён ментально
Great job JB!
They are so fast!
I havent watch wrestling in 25 years. It is completely different now. idl it. but these guys are obviously some of the best at what ever this is.
Wrestling is the one sport where crowd or not that energy still there to compete at the highest level. Now at nationals when the number 13 seed is upsetting the Number one in the country or returning champ and the crowds going nuts are a hometown guy is pulling a big upset and the crowd roars obviously that can double the energy but the constant one on one push and pull at the highest level is enough to get the elite zoned in to the max!
Right before JB makes Gomez take a long taste of the mat at 8:21 Gomez tried to tweak JB's fingers. He had been doing that to JB the whole match!!
Gomez best move was a slap not wrestling
exactly!
5:50 jb gets mad at that motormouth
🇺🇸💪🏾
Yo Burroughs is a beast. That PR guy didn’t want to wrestle him which is incredibly frustrating so Burroughs had to head bang, push his head into the mat to open him up. It’s unfortunate that these things need to be done when no one wants to wrestle you.
There’s so much USA and Burroughs hate in this video :( it’s pitiful
Noah Miller that lady in the back was annoying... go home you’re drunk.
Барроуз красава конечно,хоть и возрастной..
Goat
Woah. JB looking good.
Great defense by the Puerto Rican. Should give Burroghs an opportunity to learn to be patient on the attack
Pretty solid job of containing that double for most the match until he hit a beautiful one on him right into a nasty lace!
I love how concerned JB was when Gomez started acting out.
Reff was paid off
Crazy
fire in this one
When did this take place?
Jordan: Attack! Attack! Attack! Shot clock...
Бароуз хорош
It's a gold medal match! Burroughs wrestled exactly how he should have. Gomez is just mad he couldn't match up with Burroughs intensity. WHO WANTS IT MORE! Can't stand the heat, get out the kitchen
Great match seems that Jordan is very frustrated. The Puerto Rican is a staller. However he's a very good athlete he's not doing the moves but he's a very good athlete. He seems to be trying not to lose is definitely not trying to win Jordan is clearly trying to win
As a Puerto Rican, I root for Gomez. But this ref was very one sided, and my boy let his emotions get to him at the end of the match after being outclassed. Great win for Burroughs. I had a feeling this match would get personal after the last time they met... Do yourself a favor and watch their 1/4 finals match from 10 months ago, I won’t spoil it here.
Let’s go JB
Jordan Burroughs *shakes hand Gomez *✋🏼🖐🏼🤚🏼🤏
How do you get called for stalling when your the only one that took a shot the entire match haha what a joke
Jb all the way baby
JB is the man.
gave up on some take downs in the beginning but great finish JB
Cut that guy some slack. Showed true aggression at the 9 minute mark!
Ref was really riding gomez
I didn’t realize Franklin had such an attitude
The Ref and the crowd was against JB... a true champion comes through though.
PUR was on the defensive the entire match.
They were both unsportsmanlike. Terrible human beings
Pretty physical and chippy all match haha
1:11 got himself a handful
God JB was pissed
And that ladies and gents is how you mentally break someone, he knew he lost so he had to try to start a issue, just take the L and get back to the drawing board. Good job JB went out there and did your thing even had the respect to shake hands and leave it all on the Matt
I just realized this is the same Franklin Gomez that went to Michigan St. and won an NCAA title. Holy shit, he gained a lot of weight.
I haven’t watched wrestling in a year cause Serving my country comes before a wrestling match. I had to go read the rules for world matches like this. I thought something has changed in that year. All those shots he was taking and he got put on the clock. I thought I missed new rule changes or something.
What the heck was that warning and caution to JB for hitting the head? Looked clean to me unless there is a new rule that I'm unaware of
One guy shoots Other guy shoots Re-shoots Other guy shoots "STALLING!"
I saw jb sitting like 2 rows in front of me at my state tournament
1:30 of Jordan using his motion and attacking and somehow gets put on a shot clock??? I’m lost someone explain bc he was the only one doing something
Mike McKenzie dick head ref has it out for JB the Gomez had far worse slaps and got away with everything
Never quit wrestling until the whistle Burroughs should know this...
The only one NOT backing up at all, and gets put on the shot clock... What match was this referee watching? JB was pushing the action the whole time
