Less than 2 minutes in the middle of the night, they were able to rush and shut down the traffic. These people are heroes, they saved so many lives.

Carnival cruise and cargo ships have rerouted to Norfolk Virginia for now. We have a big port here that can support the amount of traffic.

they have food and supplies for several months, based on their intended destination.
They were not injured, and their quarters are not damaged. Right now they are running the ship and doing what the NTSB needs them to do at this stage. They may be there until the containers are removed. Eventually they will be sent back to their home port or go to another ship their employer runs. They won't be kicked onto the docks.
Imagine having to stay on that ship, looking at that wreckage until you're moved to a home port or another ship. I hope these people have the ability to talk to someone, that can't be good for mental state.
Priority is at least get one section removed so ship traffic can get in and out.

They are probably in route, or will be once engineers figure out exactly what they need and take bids. In the meantime, I bet they'll have divers down there pretty soon trying to figure out if/what pieces can be lifted right away and if and where cuts might need to be made to get the fallen parts in manageable sizes. I am sure clearing the main channel will be the priority -- the sections outside the 2 main pylons can wait.

there were no others, just the workers. The 2 minute lead time was enough for regular traffic to get clear.
The divers said they saw some cars, but there was debris covering them. Apparently the truck was easy to get to. When they free a car from the debris they will bring it up and identify any bodies they find.

The crew is Pakistani or Indian, the harbor pilots are American. Captain would have been on the bridge with the pilots. There are SOME containers with "hazardous materials" ... of some sort.

I live in this area, but I strongly opposed the construction of a new bridge. Because of climate change, we should never construct any more bridges or tunnels. Besides, we need to come up with alternatives to people getting in their own personal vehicles, and driving somewhere on a whim.
