Your weekly dose of all the insanity that passes off as news on TV.
What a busy week this was, as farmers set out to protest in Delhi over an MSP law, among other demands.
On the road to Delhi, thousands of farmers are camped at the Shambhu border in Haryana’s Ambala due to the police’s heavy barricading with cement blocks, barbed wires, and nails. This has led to us hearing about the most significant consequence of the protest: traffic.
The TV news anchors made the farmers’ ‘Dilli Chalo’ protest march sound like it was an alien invasion, and not citizens protesting in a democracy. Some news channels even called in “experts”, such as Suhel Seth, to discuss the “chaos” caused by protests.
Amid all this, some of our usual suspects followed our dear leader to Abu Dhabi, who was there to inaugurate the Middle Eastern country’s first Hindu temple. And as you know, Modi and temple together trump all other news.

Pension wlll cost - around 4 lakh crore per year 4. Electricity subsidy cost - 3 lakh crore per year 5. Exit from WTO means we won't be able to import electronic chips from other countries. 6. Total loan waiver of 18 lakh crore Total - 57 lakh crore per year India budget - 45 lakh crore per year

    • MSP can and should be guaranteed. if India can have MRP for products which is based on highest input costs in the previous year. why cant MSP? wheat MSP as of today is 257 USD where as wheat commodity price today is 219 , a 16% premium. However, in 2020 during covid, wheat shot up and govt paid lower MSP. - my basic premise is for food security a 15-20% premium is a fair premium to be paid. when MRP, which is based on the higest input cost (in the preceding 12 months) can be used in india, why cant guaranteed MSP?

    • If I am not wrong, farmers are demanding msp guarantee as well as farmer pension , which would sum upto additional 10 lakh crore ( 10 lakh crore is our annual infrastructure budget ) . So no way their demands can be fulfilled. 🤦‍♂️💀

  • my whole family is farmer , it's laughable that those whom are declaring us terrorist didn't ever go to farms in their lifetime , the amout of hardwork , in chilling winters to melting summers in middle of noon , taking care of farms , cattle just to make enough to survive , increasing price of seeds , pesticides and water shortage . they know nothing . i feel privileged that i am able to follow academic path . it's shameful where is our country headed . i am angry and disheartend by looking this situation .

    • मेरा कोई *अन्नदाता* नहीं है,, मैं मेहनत करके अपने एवं अपने परिवार का पेट भरता हूं। सो किसी को भी अन्नदाता कहकर मेरी मेहनत को शर्मिंदा व अपमानित न करें। जितनी मुझे अन्न की जरूरत है उतनी ही किसान को भी उसकी उपज बेचने की जरूरत है। हम एक दूसरे के पूरक हैं, ना किसान दाता है ना मैं याचक। कोई किसान यह नहीं कहता कि मैं अपने परिवार के लिए पर्याप्त अन्न के अलावा सारी उपज दान करूंगा। सो जबरदस्ती का अन्नदाता हम पर ना थोपें। अगर सही मायने में इस देश में कोई दाता है तो वह *करदाता* है जो अपनी कमाई का एक बहुत बड़ा हिस्सा देश की उन्नति के लिए प्रदान करता है। वह *करदाता* जिसका कर पहले कटता है और तनख्वाह बाद में आती है। वह *करदाता* जिसके कर से इन तथाकथित अन्नदाताओं को कई प्रकार की सबसिडियां और कर्ज माफी मिलती है। अगर इसी तरह चलता रहा तो कल को जीवन दाता (डॉक्टर), न्यायदाता (जज, वकील) ज्ञानदाता (शिक्षक) ईंधनदाता (पेट्रोल पंप मालिक) इत्यादि दाताओं के संगठन प्रदर्शन के नाम पर सडकें रोक कर अराजकता फैलाने की प्रेरणा लेते रहेंगे।

  • Hi Manisha. NL subscriber here. The reason why people are questioning the presence of Mercedes in protests is because farmers are lamenting poor agri income and media persons like you are talking about rural and agrarian distress. Just because the farmers are against Modi and agriculture needs to be reformed and respected in this country doesnt mean we dont need to ask a few uncomfortable questions about farmer protests. Why have some farm unions who participated last time stayed away this time? Last time too there were a lot self contradictions among the protesting farmers. Last time too the media persons like Ravish and NL stoutly oppose the K word in context of the farmer protests.
