Contains Spoilers A clip from my KZhead video: Wednesday has painfully bland characters | a deep dive. In this Short, i analyze and explain the writing of Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers) from Tim Burton’s Wednesday (2022, Netflix). Her story was disappointing because of the way it ends in season 1.

  • The fact that her mom would only accept her as a wolf is actually a problem that I think she’s gonna have to deal with. Does Enid’s mom love her for who she is, or does she just love the fact that Enid’s a werewolf? If it’s the latter, is Enid going to realize this and stand up for herself? And how will being a werewolf impact her life from now on? These are just a few questions the next season could explore.

    • There another way they can play this , what if Enid can only Wolf out , when her emontions are highly pushed ( she loves Wedsday and was scared she was going to be killed) but has a mental block on wolfing out every full moon . Making her wolfing out a thing thats not predictable.

  • being a person that is used to lot of dysfunctional things happened in my life. It's actually really exciting for me that Enid was able to stand up and defend her friend. As well as being able to still keep Wednesday in her life. That being said we have the issue of whether her mother will want to send her to a Wolf academy or if she'll be able to stay in Nevermore. We'll have the conflict for Enid of trying to figure out her family and maybe realizing that she doesn't want her mother in her life if she can't even accept her for who she was or might be. edit: for me personally that's faced a lot of strife in life I enjoy when there's great wholesome plot twists.

  • I would honestly love that now that her mom accepts her she starts rejecting her mom giving her a new bitter view on having transformed and slowly hating everything that comes with that. giving her a bit of a lone wolf arch but as she realizes that her problems are her mother and the way she pressured and made Enid feel othered when she should've been supportive and given Enid time and even actually try to help Enid herself instead of trying to basically put her in a conversion camp of sorts because it was taking too long.

  • My guess is that she'll come to dislike her powers or struggle with them and wish she'd never changed after all, with her arc being that the grass isn't always greener. But a resolved arc in season 1 usually means the character will be used in the next season to introduce us to other characters and then become overshadowed by these new characters, so I'm guessing we'll be seeing new wolves - maybe Enid's relatives?

  • I disagree. First of all, they didn't know if they would get a second season while filming the first, so 'saving' Enid's wolfout could have been a huge missed opportunity. And the show's best 'trick' for setting up future storylines is that it hasn't fleshed out its own world when it comes to outcast society yet. So since we don't know all the rules of the show's lore yet, there are plenty opportunities for discovering Enid's relationship with her own wolf and pack. And judging by the vast amounts of fanfic about that, the possibilities are limitless. Then we aren't even mentioning yet that the dynamic between Enid and Wednesday is one of the show's main driving forces. And it's also THE driving force behind Wednesday's developemental journey. Enid is teaching Wednesday how to be a friend. (which is why I hope they stay away from romance plots for Wednesday's character, because girl needs to learn how to be a friend first.)

    • I agree- this is also an example of Chekhov’s Gun- Enid’s struggle with “wolfing out” was a gun, and they had to use it. Also I think there’s plenty of character development and struggle that will come as she finds herself after “wolfing out.” Enid was an outcast from her family- where does she fit in now?

  • I think the tension with Enid’s family will still be there, things don’t often change because something good happens one time. Perhaps they’ll see it as a fluke or her mother will find other things to blame. Another potential route they could take is have Enid’s emotions come into play. I’ve thought before that while she is an open person, she could be scared to open up about something really important like her feelings if she think she’s in the wrong. A conflict with Ajax in which Ajax ditches her for some reason (either on accident or purpose) could make her very emotional but very scared of her own emotions. She would seek advice from the people closest to her, Wednesday and Yoko, but Wednesday likely wouldn’t know how to deal with it, and maybe Yoko sides with Ajax or something? An argument with Yoko perhaps could be bigger drama than with Ajax, perhaps. This would leave Enid feeling isolated, and as someone who relates to a lot of things about Enid, when she feels like she’s all alone, she might turn the blame on herself. One of the problems with Enid being so modern and open is the possibility of the walls being torn down and her feeling vulnerable. So no, I do not think her character has run out of options.

  • idk if you're aware of some werewolve lore, and I certainly don't 💀 but i'm thinking of the repercussions of her wolfing out and enid technically saving wed from tyler-hyde; lycans are known to be protective, those scars on her face are battle scars that may haunt her and wednesday would feel some guilt from that. There's actually so much more to explore for her character growth and friendship dynamic with an "I owe you" w/ wed will be different now 👀 physical touch isn't in her character, but she showed her vulnerable side; kissed tyler but got betrayed, then saved by enid and returned her gratitude by hugging her. I would expect they'll make Enid wolfing out as a struggle to control over her wolf, considering her wolf encountered a hyde; u could say it's definitely watching out for wed as a protector now 🤔 joining a pact may come in handy, she won't get accepted easily OR they'll treat her such a hero that will make wed feel left out/distant from their newly found titles from the school

There is good room for a nice and happy companion, even in Wednesday :) Her situation is very open for a season 2 honestly. She can go from love interest to antagonist. • I'd really like for Enid to fully stand up to her mom, because her accepting her now that she can transform is an incredibly hypocritical thing to do, and a cruel thing for a parent to do to their child. I want Enid get the strength to face her mom and call her out on her behaviour, which is pretty damn awful. Then she'd have room to make a choice on how she wants to deal with her family from now on.

  • She still has all her family issues her mother and father won’t just stop being an issue just because she is finally what they expect of her - it doesn’t erase the years before plus it’s clear how she has trouble fitting within her family and how that makes her “needy”, learning to control the wolfing out and also in its core she’s still a very good trope: Colorful sweet teen who is a monster. There’s a lot to work with when it comes to Enid especially since Wednesday seems seasonal as in we will get new villains characters and conflicts each time.

  • Not so sure about that. Sure, her mom might accept her now (assuming she doesn't find another fault in Enid), but will Enid herself just accept her mother's "love" after being denied it for so long over something she couldn't control ? Knowing how fake it has to be for her wolfing out to be the only reason she was denied, then granted it ? Even if she does and tries to please her mother further, her relationship with Ajax might be put into question as well. After all, Enid's mom didn't care about her daughter's crush since her wolfing out was a "much more pressing matter", but now that Enid's a full wolf, will she still turn a blind eye to her daughter dating a Gorgon instead of a proper wolf who could give her werewolf kids to continue the family line ? Season one's conflicts have been resolved for most characters, so season two's will be different for everyone and Enid's can easily be deduced from what we've already seen.

  • As someone who took Novel classes, let me explain WHY its not an issue. enid having the wolf issue was one kind of conflict. what we call man vs himself” you can have her encounter one of the other two, Man vs nature or Man vs man. The fact they tied it up was just basic storytelling. Its called a subplot. they had no guarantee of a second season and even if they did, its better for the story not to leave loose ends

They keep moving the goal posts further away just as you are about to cross the line. It wouldn’t surprise me if next they are insistent of her dating other werewolves solely. Before they probably didn’t care who she got with because she was the black sheep and a disappointment. But now she has shaped up to their expectations, they will expect her to fall in line even more.

Adams Family was always about how these monstrous characters were a happy, caring family and friendly, if odd, neighbors. A happy, fulfilling ending fits perfectly with the main theme going back to the original comic strip.

I don't want Enid to go through that tho so I hope they do something thats gonna end out well for her. I know Enid has a good idea of her worth and knows shes great but still. They can play off of her strengths and she's good.

  • Her character will likely have to deal more with her relationship with her mother. Sure now that she has wolfed out her mother will accept her. But what does tgat mean for her? Does her mom see her as an individual person or as just another extention of the werewolf race? Sure now she gets the acceptance she what's for her mom. But does that really make her happy because it only has happened because she has Wolfed out (again see the first question) then there is the problem of who she is dating. Do we really think a mother that is so obsessed with her daughter wolfing out that she wanted to send her to a conversation camp would be alright with her dating a non-werewolf? Because I have a strong feeling she won't be happy about it. So again we come back to her mother and hers relationship and if she will stand up to her mother and what that may mean for their relationship. Then there is also the fact that while it seems her mothers attitude (a werewolf centered-ness way of thinking. Like being self-centered but around werewolf-ness) is not a universal thing within werewolfs (the father seems to care and support her no matter what and her brothers don't seem the care one way or another. They are self engrossed in werewolf-ness. They seem to be different from their mother because while they seem to be werewolf centered it is more about just being caught up in the experience of it and not thinking about anything outside of it. Where as the mother seems to be thinking about what it means to be a werewolf and what is and is not the proper way of being one and taking a huge amountof pride in it) there may be a certain part of the werewolf people that think/feel like her mother and they could also cause conflict (even if it is just some other ingredients and social exclusion Which was part of her worry when she couldn't wolf out. Now if she still gets that from her "people" because of who she is dating it will be much the same for her as when she couldn't wolf out).

  • I would politely disagree, the questions for her are how will her mom treat her now that she wolfed out? Will we see more of what her siblings and family are like?

  • i think it would be cool for them to explore enid's relationship with her mother following the change. it could create an interesting parallel with the homophobia/conversion allegory they've been using. after all, many queer people with homophobic family members will find themselves in m/f relationships and having to deal with those homophobic family members supporting them for all the wrong reasons. that can create a lot of guilt, as well as further damage the relationship with that relative bc it is so difficult to tell if their support is stemming from bigotry or not. enid could even find herself harmed in one way or another by the wolf form and have to choose between the newfound acceptance from her family and her own safety. i wasnt very impressed with the show, so i doubt the writers will go to a lot of interesting places with her character, but there is definitely some space for growth.

  • In the show Enid is treated in a similar way some queer characters or real people are treated, parents wanting to send them off to conversion therapy in order for them to be what their parents want them to be. In Enid’s case it’s like a bisexual or pansexual individual getting a partner who’s the opposite sex/gender and due to their apparent straightness, the parents accept them. Yes your parents are better to you, but it just highlights how much your parents will only accept you and love you when you do what they want. I could see Enid becoming more angry and aggressive, upset that only now does her mother accept and love her, while having a sought of hatred towards her wolf side for proving that, this is the only way her mother will love her.
