To make things simple, I'll just post my comment from Patreon here. Each of the members has a great voice, but their harmony when they sing together is outstanding. Their group name is a mixture of "forest" and the Latin/Italian word "stella", which means star. So Forestella means a forest of stars. Their names from left to right in this video: Ko Woorim (classically trained basso profundo), Kang Hyungho (countertenor and rock voice, no official vocal training), Cho Mingyu (classically trained tenor and leader of the group), Bae Doohoon (musical actor). As you said, they were formed on the show "Phantom Singer". The aim of this show is to form a quartet. The candidates start as solo artists, then form duos, trios and finally quartets. Forestella is the winner of season 2. This performance was not from Phantom Singer, but from "Immortal Songs 2" (another very popular competition in Korea). They sing all kinds of genres like pop, folk, rock, soundtracks etc. E.g. for rock songs you could check out "Lazenca, Save us" (a theme song of a Korean anime series), their cover of Imagine Dragons' "Warriors" or their Queen covers (Bohemian Rhapsody, We will rock you, We are the champions, The show must go on). For very emotional performances I recommend "Je suis malade" or "If I leave" (I can send you links with English subs). Forestella sing in many languages: Korean, English, French, Spanish, Italian, Russian etc. The guys also have their own songs like "Save our Lives" (1st part of a trilogy; the music video is a cinematic masterpiece), "Utopia" (Queen vibes, 2nd part of the trilogy) or "White Night" (simply gorgeous). The roots of the song "Scarborough Fair" go back to the 16th or 17th century. Simon & Garfunkel revived it. I hope to see more Forestella reactions on your channel. 🙂

Thank you for your reaction! This is Forestella, a crossover group from Korea. They are the winner group in the Phantom Singer 2; an audition show to form a crossover quartet like il Divo from Korea. However, as they have their own unique style, they won't be Korean il Divo, they will be the Forestella of the world! Forestella has sung great covers like Bohemian Rhapsody, We are the Champions, Hijo de la Luna, Heal the World, the Sound of Silence, My Favorite Things, Champions (mash-up of Champs league theme and Champions by Jo SuMi), Nella Fantasia, Scarborough Fair..etc etc. At the Phantom Singer All Stars they sang Time in a bottle, Je suis Malade as well. Shape of You in English, Spanish and African Zulu is fantastic indeed. You can even see them dancing singing Smooth Criminal as well! If you are a LOL fan, check their Warriors and Legends Never Die! And they broke the record of their own with EXO's MAMA winning 6 trophies for King of Kings in a row in Immortal Songs. Check their magnificent performances of Bad Romance and Lazenca Save us, Unwritten Legend and Despacito too. Forestella is a quartet of Ko WooRim (a classical bass, intense abyss-deep low tone), Kang HyungHo (an ex-research chemist, rock vocalist with soprano head voice falsetto), Cho MinGyu (a classical leggiero tenor, light boyish crystal clear tone) and Bae DooHoon (a musical actor, 159th King of the Masked Singers, emotion convincer good at R&B, Pop). Each has distinct tone and style of singing, different charm. But all of them are famous as practice-freaks. They meet almost everyday to practice together. In a radio program the leader (Cho MinGyu) revealed it would be around 20 days they didn't meet in the year. Bae DooHoon also said they don't meet 1~2 days in a month. I think this explains how their perfection can be possible. Don't miss their m/v for Save our lives! It's full of wonders. Each of them is representing an element in the m/v. Fabulous, I am obsessed with this group. thanks for the reaction, it doesn't matter what genres or language (English, Korean, Italian, Spanish, French, Zulu and Russian) they are brillant. They spend 300 out of 365 days rehearsing together to get their perfect sounds. Koo Woorim is in 18 months miltary service till May 2025 but other 3 members busy as a trio and individual concerts as well. look forward to many more reactions.

Good day. Thank you for your reaction. Glad you were introduced to them. In my opinion, they are one of the most underrated artists today. I find them superb. To help with learning the names they are almost always lined up from left to right on the screen Ko Woorim (operatic bass), Kang Hyung Ho (countertenor / tenor), Cho Mingyu (tenor) and Bae Doohoon (baritone /tenor). There are videos on KZhead about their journey on Phantom Singer 2 (on their channel) it is an interesting concept to watch or if you want the shortened version a KZhead user made 3 shorter versions of the competition called the Forestory. Chu Mingyu is the leader of the group and he had a big influence when it came to selecting the members of the group. He seemed to have been the glue. What is amazing about Forestella is they are probably the only group that gives exceptional live performances. Most of the performances you see on youtube are all songs sung live either at the Phantom singer 2 competition when the group was formed, or the Phantom singer All star competition where top three groups of prior seasons did a friendly competition during covid. They have also come up with exceptional performances in the immortal songs weekly competitions. Only 5 or 6 worthy singers or groups are invited based on each week’s theme. A winner is selected each week. These winners compete twice a year in the king of kings competition. Forestella has a record number of consecutive titles in this competition. They are known as the kings of harmonies. They do exceptionally well in all genres and sing in multiple languages. Their original singles and albums are also very unique and mesmerizing! Their live concerts are also very well done ! Forestella fan forever!!❤

This is from old English folk song. Simon&Garfunkel version is the most famous as far I know. There are some stories about this song Scarborough Fair..what I've read was this is a song from a ghost (soul) of a dead soldier. He asked the herbs growing on his dead body to deliver his message to his beloved girl in Scarborough Fair where was a big herb market. He asked the herbs to tell her impossible task "Tell her to make me a cambric shirt without no seams nor needle work" to make her give up waiting for his coming back as he's already unable as he's dead. Forestella sang like as messengers of this sad and beautiful story. Also there are symbols those herbs significated: parsley for comfort or to remove bitterness, sage for strength, thyme for courage, and rosemary for love. There's some speculation that these four herbs were used in a tonic of some sort to remove curses. What I first heard was to remove memories..so I thought he (the dead soldier) wanted to remove the memory about him from his girl to make her not mourning for him anymore. BTW I found those herbs cannot be grown in the same areas in fact while on my researching English references.. so it could be just for remembering the recipe for turkey seasoning ingredients, too.

Yes! More Forestella!!! Seriously you won’t regret it. Everything they do is of this exceptional quality. As you noticed they aren’t a boy band but a vocal quartet, with 2 of the members actually classically trained opera singers. I still get goosebumps from watching them.
This is not from Phantom Singer 2, but from Immortal Songs. If you keep reacting to Forestella, it'll be better to know about Immortal Songs. KBS Immortal Songs (I'll say IS) is a kind of remake rendition competition show for legendary musicians. Usually, someone living legend in Korean music is invited and 6~12 teams compete with a rendition of the songs related to the legend. But sometimes there are episodes inviting nobody and having specific themes. Now it's changed a little, the numbers of teams to 5~15. IS diversed the invited artists more like not only living legends but also popular young artists. Each episode has a winner by audiences votes. At each half of the year, there's a King of the Kings episode (I'll say KoK). At the KoK episode, the winners from each episode through the period compete with each other with any cover they choose. So in KoK, no legend is invited. Forestella began to be known to the world with their Bohemian Rhapsody and they have beautiful renditions of Heal the World, Scarborough Fair, We are the Champions, Smooth Criminal, Bad Romance, Despacito, etc. in IS. Actually they are very strong competitors in this kind of music competition shows. They also had awesome performances in Phantom Singer All Stars (I'll say PSAS) in which JTBC invited all the Phantom Singer finalists groups and had competitions among crossover groups. Their Shape of you is a MUST-SEE performance. They sang it in 3 different languages- English, Spanish and isiZulu (one of the African languages) there. And their Time in a bottle, Je suis malade and Inner Universe in PSAS would be also stunning.

Forestella came up with exceptional performances. They are very well known for their performances on immortal songs 2 shows. The earned the King of Kings title 6 consecutive times, a record for the show. There is a lot for you to discover! I just love them!!

They compete 1 v. 1, then the survivors move on to duos, then trios... and finally the Quartet. Mingyu won every round and that gave him the chance to recruit the others, specifically choosing voices that gave them variety and range (and earning him the title of “The Strategist” by the judges). They are lightning in a bottle. The show has turned out several great quartets, but none have the widespread appeal of Forestella. They continue to enter competitions (this is from Immortal Songs where they have won a record breaking 6 consecutive times… alas, this is not one of their winning performances), put out albums and even toured N. America last year. They intend to keep performing, but they are a man down until May 2025 as their Bass, Woorim, completes his Mandatory Military service. Thanks for a wonderful reaction. They came together as a quartet through Phantom Singers in 2018(?). There are many many good quartets that have been formed through this show over the years, but Forestella remains my favorite. This performance was in another show, Immortal Singers. The singers are invited as contestants against other known singers and groups. This was filmed during Covid restrictions, so there was a limited audience who viewed and voted on the performances.The rest shown are other contestants who competed against Forestella for a trophy, and whose reactions are shown. Forestella never fails to amaze!
Both Phantom Singer 1 and 2 ended in 2017. So it would be confusing if we call it Phantom Singer 2017.. Forestella won the Phantom Singer 2 in 2017, officially debuted in 2018.
This is Immortal Songs, it's a popular tv show where established singers are invited to compete, they usually have a theme for the week, and competitors put their own twist on classic songs, and the audience votes the winners. Forestella has won a lot of times in this show, and they won King of the Kings - which is a special competition of the winners - 6 times, which is a new record. The people you see here are other competitors and the hosts of the show. This episode was during covid so there is no live audience, otherwise they usually have a big audience on set watching.

Even if these 4 guys are only 3 left today due to baritone Woorim Ko leaving for military service, you have a wide choice among their old performances : Parla piu piano, Hijo de la luna, If I leave, Legends nerver die, Lazenca save us, etc., without mentioning their superb MVs... And since you seem to like gospel songs, don't miss the greatest female Korean Gospel singer, Sohyang, for example in her breathtaking "Everyone" or her "Bridge over trouble waters". She's incredible too !
