  • It is guys like you that will push your country forward and I salute you. A word of advise, both WELDING and heating “spring” steel will weaken the metal, that’s what caused your “snap”.

  • Try adding stiffeners on the edges and sides. Think like a c section piece of steel bent into your s shape. It will make the piece much stronger and safer and still allow the clearance you need. Be safe friend.

  • You should re-heat that entire part, then temper it properly. After bending it and working it, you likely caused the metal to have internal stresses and flaws, possibly small cracks. Something to remember for future? This is, however a very good idea.

  • Something I learned to do starting when I would brake springs on my Caterpillar tractor walking beam, is like your blue part / spring steel when finished cutting and bending on it is to heat the entire part good and hot and stick it in isolation over night . This annealing process takes the tension out of the work and it won't break again nearly as easy or often. Good Video Thank you

It's not as if the sun rises or sets on what you might say. Let it it be sufficient to say that design, analysis and fabrication of welded structures is not something I need lots of help with, and if I do need help I know many people who are amply qualified. Let the greater point be this: the guy in the video - probably driven by lack of resources - devised a dangerous device and built it in a substandard way. It's irksome and a bit frightening to see so many people who (apparently) can't see the danger in his methods and result. That's all.

The post neither criticised nor supported this guy's work but was directed at the mindless repetitive comments from the warriors. If you do at some time require qualified help from professionals, the company I sold 13 years ago will no doubt oblige. They played around with a few structural fabrications for around 40 years, hotels, offices, that sort of stuff. You asked for my knowledge source when it wasn't really necessary in reality, having read the post again.
