I was there, it was amazing. Two super horses who are amazing. See them at the age of 2.5 and 4 and they where always this talented. I think Total US is even better then Totilas himself.

In my opinion, Totilas shouldnt be a dressage legend. He was trained with rollkur which is abusive.

We are on best way to produce the same poor marionettes as they did with the Tennessee Walking Horses in USA. This is not natural noblesse, it is fake noblesse. And the crowd is cheering and applauding. I cry!

fraushrimp how can you even say that? These Totilas lines don’t get stuff around their hooves to make bigger movements. Yes, they have more, bigger movements on show; they are nervous because such a cheerfull crowd is scary. They have a energetic temper and you can see that they sometimes still think “woah”. These horses have a great life and their training is nothing alike the shows. They are still horses and eat their lovely green grass and golden hay on the meadows or in the paddock. Lol

@@chantalprins3360 Totilas has never been kept out in the field because he could possibly hurt himself. Their owners/trainer/whoever said so themselves. I highly doubt it's any different for these horses. These horses are not happy. These movement aren't natural, they have not always moved like this, and this is not how a 7 year old (or any horse!) should be ridden. Even ignoring the ridiculously uprising forehand, these horses have no real action in their hindlegs, and aren't asked to either. Their backs are hollow. Their croup only looks like they're opening their backs because they're bred like German Shepherds. They have no balance and should not be asked for the things they have to perform yet. They're not ready to be ridden on this level, and neither are they ready to be shown in such a crowd. Edward Gal is a brutal rider. He has proven that with several horses already. But the important thing is not to blame individuals, but to educate the public. Correct and horse-friendly riding doesn't look spectacular. It doesn't require you to pull your horse up with your hand and it doesn't require your horse to have its head down or peddling with its legs. A horse can be ridden beautifully with a wide opened back and active hindlegs while his head is relaxed and up like he was running over the field to check something out. I suggest Philippe Karl's book about modern dressage. He is very provocative and I don't really like that, but he's right. Generally, try to get into the anatomy and biomechanical processes of horses to find out why this kind of riding is wrong. It is absolutely fascinating, even without that in mind. Once you sit on a highly trained horse that will move from shoulder-in to haunches-out to haunches-in in all three gaits just by slightly moving your weight you doubt everything that is going on with high level sports like this video. It is fascinating what you can do with a horse when you give it time and understanding. The horse is not for dressage. Dressage is for the horse. But not in this video.

I would like to invite you to a short experiment by yourself: Go down on your hands and knees. Your shoulders are straight above your hands and your hip is straight above your knees. Take your chin to your breast. Now lift one arm stretched as high as you can, but keep your shoulder and your hips in position! You will notice, that your whole weight of your upper body is on one hand, you need lots of strength, while your knees can`t help to carry the weight from the one hand on the ground. Go back to both hands. Now move your body a little backwards. Your shoulders are now a liitle behind your hands and your hip is a little behind your knees. Your chin is still on your breast. Lift one arm again as high as you can and you will notice it is much easier and more comfortable for you! Your knees can take lots of weight from your upper body and your hand on the ground is lightened. With much less power you are able to rise your lifted arm higher! Now press your head back into the nape of your neck. You will feel your upper body gets even more lighter and your arm is lifting even higher without any more power. Your knees take lots of weight, but you feel comfortable and light! Even an additional weight between your shoulders (the rider) wouldn't be a problem yet! :-) The horses in video are in the first position and nobody trained them to take weight to their hind legs. Furthermore they are not allowed to hold their heads in front of the vertical line but on the breast. So they need lots of muscles in their forehand to lift the front legs as high as shown. You can see in video that the front of the horses is very impressive and strong. But the back and the hind legs are weak and not able to carry weight. You can see, that the hind legs often get out of step. The whole weight of heavy forehand and rider is on only one leg! That's why these movements are fake and the horses will be lame in future! And the worst thing of all is: so many people like you or the audience don't notice any longer, that this way of riding and presenting a horse is totally wrong! That makes me cry, because it is hopeless :-(

You realy think people breed a horse like that during several generations, then train them for a lot of money knowing that when they have finally reached the top they are goning to be lame ? Makes me curious how you think about jumping horses ! Is there any way at all in your vision that people may ride a horse ?

And yes, I really think, people breed and train horses (and other animals, e.g. agony breeding in dogs) without consideration. Just take an example from Totilas. People spend lots of money in his breeding and training and they earn even more money with him. Short-term success brings money. Only the last owner lost a lot of money, because the signs of wear became visible and Totilas got lame... Concerning your question, if I have any way in my vision that people may ride a horse, please read my post again carefully. Since horses cannot speak for themselves let us... horses need to be horses not treated as dress up dolls. They need to run in fields and ridden naturally not taught to step high which is not natural. Both horses are stunning and would look fantastic walking naturally without raising those legs so high, no reason for it.

Sick. Poor horses. These are not natural movements. Please, please educate yourself about a horse's anatomy and how to ride a horse fair and pro-animal so it stays happy and healthy for a long time. We need to change the direction in which we are going. This has nothing to do which the art of riding that the old masters developed. This is how you destroy a horse both physically and mentally. Don’t be deceived by the low croup, that’s breeding, not good training. See the horse as a whole and compare to pictures of correct riding by the old masters. This is just sad to watch. Correct fair riding doesn’t look spectacular. A well trained horse living in a good environment might have a temper and be energetic, but it will be willing to work and always listening to his rider. He will try to do his best. As long as you’re treating them right and only ask them things they are capable of doing in the moment, their self-esteem will grow and they will move with a light, natural pride and charisma. A horse is moving fine when you don’t hear them touch the ground, not matter if they walk, trot or canter. Horses are not made to show them off. Horses are not made for dressage. Dressage is made for the horse. As long as the horse is (ab)used for dressage and dressage is used for money, there will be no fair riding. A horse is not a machine. It’s a living creature that needs time and care and individual, just training if you expect it to be your sports partner. A horse would never get the idea to put a human being on its back. If we want to ride a horse, we need to respect their nature. Then they’ll be happy to work for and with us until their very last day instead of being broken and torn apart like Totilas. Horses don’t have a voice. Let’s stand up for them.

As soon as you get on a horse it's not natural anymore. Horses don't want/like to be ridden. If they had a choice they would prefer to stand on a grassfield all day.

My horses are coming to me when i come to take them for a ride. I do not offer any treats or something like that. They come to me even when they know that i am gonna take them for a ride. So how is it possible for them to hate riding when they come to me by they're own free will. And it is not possible for them to be the only horses to like riding. So no you are wrong on that part.

Since horses cannot speak for themselves let us... horses need to be horses not treated as dress up dolls.
