The 2023 Subaru Ascent features a redesigned front fascia with aggressive styling and a more prominent grille. The SUV’s L E D headlights are new and feature an updated L E D running light design. Subaru added air ducts to the lower bumper to improve airflow, and in higher trims, the feature comes with chrome accents. Around the back, the taillights come with an updated C-shape.
On the inside, you’ll find a big new infotainment display and the latest versions of Subaru’s driver assistance systems.
The new tablet-style screen measures 11.6 inches from corner to corner and controls the multimedia system, climate, X-Mode, and all other vehicle configuration settings. All trims get the bigger screen, but only the top ones offer voice-activated navigation with what3words location finding.
Along with the new system, wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto are also now standard. Another small but very helpful change is the addition of steering response to the LED headlights on all trims, which will help light up twisty roads at night.
Cabin Connect is a new third-row intercom that picks up front-row voices and then transmits them to the rear. It’s included on any trim with the Harman Kardon audio system.
For 2023, Subaru has given the Ascent its latest EyeSight driver assistance system updates. The changes include a new wide-angle camera that works with the existing dual-camera system to widen the field of view and better spot pedestrians and cyclists. Automatic Emergency Steering, which can help steer around a crash at speeds below 80 km/h is also new, while the rest of the changes are small ones that are meant to let the system operate in a more natural way.
Unchanged is the Ascent’s turbocharged 2.4L boxer four-cylinder engine and its 260 hp, standard all-wheel drive, and CVT that allows the big crossover to tow up to 2,270 kg.
