#IndiaChinaClash #Tawang
The recent clash between the soldiers of India and China in Yangtse, Arunachal Pradesh’s Tawang sector makes one look back at Chinese intrusion in Sumdorong Chu in 1987. Sumdorong Chu was a military standoff that took place between India and China in the Sumdorong Chu Valley bordering the Tawang district. In episode 1135 of #CutTheClutter, ThePrint Editor-in-Chief Shekhar Gupta talks about how India's defences occupied other heights in the Tawang region in response to Chinese intrusion.

  • As always, as expected, a very well informed piece by Shekarji. One feedback, if I may, will be to keep the labels at the top - "ThePrint", "Episode xxxx", "Representational" etc. - watermarked or with atleast 50% transparency whenever we are shown snapshots with information all over the screen - like a map, or a newspaper clipping. This will help in reading and understanding the snapshots clearly. Case in point at 11:16.

  • Many seem set on the PM's response to the Chinese incursion. IMO, the PM should not respond. Firstly, the Chinese President hasn't addressed the issue publicly. Secondly, Our PM wouldn't know what to speak. We are NOT the ones encroaching on territories, and we can't go Zelensky with our "Christmas list". Any PM-level response will signal WEAKNESS. We need to engage the Chinese on our terms and not theirs. Words like "Pitai" from someone claiming to be on an All-India-Unity tour are harmful to our national resolve. We need to be PATIENT and CALCULATING with the Chinese.

  • What is confounding is the Indian government's official recognition of Tibet as being part of China in 1998-99. What was the compulsion? India should always recognize Tibet as an independent country and this would continue to be a thorn to the Chinese. But now we have less leverage because we gave in. Another mistake was to return the West Pakistani territory captured during the 1971 war back to Pakistan, as a gesture of goodwill. India should have asked for PoK or Aksai Chin in return.

    • @@himanshugautam3405 India has a moral responsibility to back Tibet because of our cultural links and the Tibetans living & serving in India. But how much of that is applicable in RealPolitik is questionable. Tibet & Taiwan are two thorns in the CCP grand plan for conquest. As long as Arunachal & Ladakh is within India CCP will never be able to dissolve the Tibetan culture & history into Han Chinese. And Taiwan with its contested SCS & allies will be a hard test for CCP. Without the two everything that CCP stands for can be argued.

  • Many thanks for a very instructive and informative presentation. I have read a few books on Indo-China border dispute. This problem is clearly a legacy from the British Imperial rule. They were high handed in dealing with a relative weak chinese government, which had only nominal control over Tibet. Henry Macmahon unilaterally drew the so-called "Macmahon Line" in 1902 or so. Until 1938, Tawang itself was not occupied by the British Indian army. This has became a game of chess. You allow the opposing foot soldier on the chess board to your side, he will devastate your side. Now, there is no choice but to adhere to the onerous parting gift of the British.

  • Mr Shekhar Gupta has rightly stated in this brilliant episode that where national interest is concerned all parties are on the same page. Nehru took action against the Nizam and in Goa. He ordered the army to throw out the Chinese even though his order led to the disaster of 1962. Shastri did a good job in 1965 in taking the battle to the Pakistanis. Indira Gandhi put Pakistan in its place,merged Sikkim. Rajiv Gandhi held his own at Sumdorong Chu. VP Singh with his buckling down on the Rubaiyya Sayed case has rightly been dubbed as weak. Narsimha Rao reached a agreement in 1993 which helped keep the peace till the summer of 2020. The present government did Balakot and made its intentions clear. Vajpayee too upheld the national interest. However now with repeated transgressions by the Chinese it is a matter of consideration as to whether the agreement is being misused. I think the Chinese side is trying out a modified version of the wolf! wolf !! fable. Today they are coming unarmed but one fine day they could come armed. Therein lies the danger. A wider escalation may follow. So much depends on the intention of the Chinese Meanwhile the politics going on should not be taken as a division in the national intent. It is normal for opposition to call for resignation of those in government. Don't recall anyone actually resigning. However if it comes to a actual conflict all will be united

  • Thanks for the laboured effort to explain that erstwhile indian govt of Indira Gandhi made efforts, howsoever feeble, to build some army presence on Tawang border. This cleverly masks the sheer inefficiency of that party's govt whose defence minister Antony famously said ' we don't build infrastructure lest Chinese find it easy to invade us'. That being said, the Mr Gupta inadvertently let the truth slip through when he said(10.35onwards)... " the strategy of not building defence near Tawang and create real defence only deeper inside Indian territory near Sule was that the then govt decided to protect India ' (and not bother about its peripheries) -my words in brackets. THIS WAS THE MENTALITY. North East didn't really matter to them. No wonder development didn't take at all in that part of the country. It was only Modi and his govt that took a real interest in North East and the result is for all to see. This wishywashy effort by Gupta ji to recap some history is merely to remind us that see there was some spine in Indira's time as well. Maybe he didn't mean that but we now know better how the erstwhile left liberal narrative worked. Thankfully their time is over or fast coming to an end. But we need to be alert. Vigilance that is eternal is the price freedom. Isnt it?...

    @any7334@any7334 Жыл бұрын

Modi due to his divisive politics, has to confront Pakistan at every time when Pakistan do terrorist attack and has to take action because he has made this image just to win election (points to be noted) Pakistan is weak so modi can do this with Pakistan. What this case is not same with China 2. Then he mocks that modi will not be able to do this with China because china is not like Pakistan. Clash will increase tension between China and India. China is always like that (liberandu reporter were used to be like this when cong rule) India will have to face forcely because if Indian soldiers will not do then this will hurt Modi image and he will loose election. 3- these liberandu reporter take everything to election, divisive politics, image branding but don't care about that India should be always like this - Pakistan is no match for India. We can beat Pakistan any time. Liberandu: what modi will do with China Then i want to say stop all your this demeaning reports. You not focus on That New India is ready for face to face with china (because this make you forced to accept that modi is making strong image of India, if you will say it will benefit modi) So you try to correlate Modi Is forced to confront china with Indian soldiers because Modi has to protect his image. Liberandu people never want to accept that modi is bringing some good changes (easily able to beat Pakistan, Face off with china) This is liberandu problem they think everything modi is doing for winning. Before Modi, Indian pm never do some basic things which should be done from starting For example celebration of diwali with Indian soldiers (liberandu says this is for election) But liberandu here modi wants to give message to upcoming pm that you should be like this. Modi giving freedom to soldiers on ground level so that they can take decision at their level if Pakistan do bombing at border,China do anything like clashing. How much great your soldiers will be , but they can't win war without basic things like gun,shoes (Indian soldiers had not at time of 1962 war, air force was not used by nehru why i think he got message from real pm that India will have to loose this war from Britain ) and modern technology. At one time , liberandu of India thinking that India should abolish their army 😂😂. So stop this journalism where everytime you think about - I'f we will say this than it will help modi. We haven't problem in criticism of modi but please stop this nonsense -😂😂 That modi is forced to face china because of his hard image on national security ( if this is right then it should be any country should have pm like this to protect national security) 🙏 Please stop your nonsense. I am saying you this because all this nonsense you said when Galwan clash occurred. Telling because don't want that supporters of sg came here that sg didn't say this in above video. When you praise Modi, then liberandu came to tell you are andhbhakt 😂😂...... But liberandu are underestimating people (andhbhakt by liberandu) because a large junk of these people is not happy with modi on various issue (no increase day by day because their eye are opening like me - for example appeasement is happening through bjp govt like congress government) Liberandu will never understand us . We praise Modi for good work like somehow giving deserved value to sanathan dharma, building infra. But totally unhappy - 1.how they dealt in Nupur Sharma case. 2.Failure in stopping anti CAA riot 3.Failure in stopping Shaheen bagh 4.Failure in giving befitting reply to islamic countries like do with west. Doing appeasement of minority which is more that 25cr (how can you be called when your number is already high for even call yourself minority but this is happening because India secularism is one sided. 5 why govt is careless in dealing with anti national living in India and spreading propaganda. All above 5 points always in my mind and many more points also. But when comes to voting then- over infra, over national security, over strengthen the image of India Bjp always win Over appeasement - all parties are equal (tmc,aap,trs,dmk,bjp,sp,cong etc ), don't know about future but still today bjp leader don't cry for killing of terrorist 😂😂. Bjp don't get votes from them but still said after winning election that they got their chunk of votes of Muslim 😂😂. What liberandu says that there is no alternative of bjp yes i agree we want alternative of bjp ourselves more than liberandu. But to all liberandu , we don't want cong, tmc ,aap like alternative 😂😂 We want more nationalist party than bjp and more nationalist leader than modi who completely remove colonial mindset (not doing something like Modi to acceptances from international media like Modi do) and who completely make India true secular (stopping all Sharia Shaw law which are in India) And who stop appeasement completely. So liberandu you just keep underestimate people of India and living dream of like you are in 2004 . And i deeply understand pain of liberandu journalist At time of pm manmohan singh At foreign trip - 1. Luxurious hotels 2. Luxurious food 3. Luxurious wines Many things more like flat in India, allowance 😂😂. Making govt, selecting portfolios for netas - Indian journalist has done everything 😂😂 25 years celebration of news channel on Indian president house 😂😂 Liberandu,chamchas of congress should know andhbhakt are not like them who just sold their country for money. Please liberandu don't come here with nonsense that - modi ne sab kuch bek diya 😂😂. Heard of such nonsense a lot.😂😂

If you accept that part to be a part of India then accept their language and people. They talk Tibetan language there which is similar to Chinese mandarin (just like Hindi and Bengali).

  • As you can see the only way to defend India is by growing her economy. And India can grow only if the free market economy is allowed to flourish. When British Came to India, India enjoyed 25% of World economy. That time there were no Govt. railways, no Govt. airlines, no Govt. industries. Individual Indians worked hard and built her economy. Unshackle India again.

He was unable to complete the SriLanka Peacekeeping effort ( 1988 ) ...mostly because Rajeev Gandhi would not give him a free hand... It is not as simple and glorious of Political class as being presented. Anyways, IA is much better prepared now. In China's Scheme of things Bhutan has no relevance and is considered netural country which can be occupied, that is to be factored to understand the strategic significance of the area.
