You Were Dead…but God - Ephesians 2:1-10 - Skip Heitzig

This is the tenth and final study in our series ...but God, and today we get most personal. Rather than considering Joseph, David, Nehemiah, Isaac, or Daniel, we focus on our own story. Four simple phrases describe for us the spiritual journey all believers take through this life on our way to heaven. If you are a believer, all four of these things should happen. Unfortunately, too many stop with the first two and never successfully engage the last two. Let’s look at each one and evaluate how our lives can be lived to the full potential.
This teaching is from our series ...but God with Skip Heitzig from Calvary Church.

  • In accordance with the words spoken in this video, I, Annelies Bakker agree to be alive in Christ Jesus: "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them." In the name and blood of Jesus Christ, amen.

  • A very clear exposition on this passage, no confusion in this interpretation, like looking into the mind of the author of Ephesians 2. One thing that I do not understand though, to me both the gospels and some of Paul's epistles point to a return of Christ in the first century. I would like to hear Pastor Heitzig exposit that theme since he seems to be able to expound with such clarity.

  • This is so true about the natural man being not physically dead but spirituality dead. Being myself conformed to this world with drugs and alcohol I was once like Moses's lost in the wilderness for last 40 years. In almost 2 years totally absence from any artificial substance I've come so far in physically mentally and spiritually to no comparison than the last 40 years, short calender months! Absence from substance was only the first step, there are so many more steps to God's path to his Kingdom and eventually Heaven. Today I feel guilty for a white lie or wrongful thought, which is a sin anyway you view it. I lost absolutely everything I ever had and things I treasured. Than I realized Jesus was all that I really needed until Jesus was all I had. Through all my trails I've also realized were blessings that help mold, push me back on the path. I thank God everyday he had the patience he never gave up me even when I gave up on myself. So knowing this patience is not a problem with my steps towards HIM. God Bless Skip Heitzig for what he has and does through God.

    • 11/9/18: Aloha from Hawaii, brother. WOW, what a DYNAMITE testimony. Yes, GOD has been and is patient with all of us...even AFTER we have been converted. There is not a day I let go by without saying THANK YOU, GOD for JESUS because of HIM and what HE did for us, we are accepted “in” THE BELOVED. All because of JESUS. We will, for all eternity, be praising HIS name non stop...and HE IS WORTHY ( worthy is THE LAMB to receive all glory, praise, power, riches, honor, wisdom, blessing, strength, and might forever & ever ).

  • I loved hearing you share about your moment when you were convinced you weren’t going to cave in and get saved, but then found yourself praying the sinners prayer…that happened to me back in February while listening to one of your sermons on the book of Romans. When you read 3:23, I had my “but God” moment.

  • I have come to the conclusion that no matter how much you read your bible, if you dont immediately begin to discipline yourself and strive to do the will of God, you will not grow. That was me, just going to church, but filling my mind with worldly garbage, which was stalling my spiritual growth. I like pastor skips analogy of a 25 year old babbling like a baby. We really don't get the promised renewing of the mind without immersing ourselves in Gods word, and prayer, communication with The Father. How can we be equipped to serve when we aren't prepared to answer the questions of the unsaved?!

    • Letty Guerra .....and to add, Sister Guerra, as we commit to the HOLY SPIRIT. JESUS said without HIM, we can do n o t h i n g. We MUST ( no option here ) submit ourselves to the HOLY SPIRIT so HE can accomplish GOD’s work in & through us.

  • Ephesians 2:8,9 is very misunderstood by many failing to read line 10 as good works will be required to demonstrate your faith in obedience.

    • Bingo! Good works ALWAYS come after salvation. Those that think they were saved but then live the exact same way they did before “salvation” are sorely mistaken. I was one of those people for many years until God actually saved me.

    • But even worse most fail to understand the the good works are the fruit of regeneration ,not the cause of it!

  • Just want to share my dream last night , before I close my eyes I whisper to God give me a peaceful dream. This what I dream off, I remember I was a seed that this huge farmer figure plant me and hand me 2 tools was an ancient looking small shovel and a fork , I remember there were a lot of us, was plant by this farmer huge man I can’t see his face and next thing I know I’m a baby , growing up next thing I know my life start going back to how I was a baby growing up ages and cross path those who I did good things too those who did same and some of those who treat me and my mom wrong , next thing I know I’m back to this farmer that his on his knee planting seeds and so when I appear back to him I felt on my knee and gave him my tools , and he goes welcome back or something and next thing you know my tools turn into dust and then he open some type of a huge curtain and I saw his army all wearing gold armors and the other curtain are all save people who living more like a garden of eden some type of an garden. But on other side of his arm I saw some spirit return with no tools and he kinda toss it like bad plants in where dead plants are and I saw those who treat me wrong and my mom those who I help that betray me . I woke up did my prayer today is my fasting too so I did my morning prayer with my wife , by the way I choose to join his army cause I hate evil and I always tell myself imma destroy them cause they destroyed so many of my family and friends. So I felt like this 2 tools he buried with us seeds are tools we use as we enter this world . After our prayer I end up here Ephesians :2 1-10. Amen.
