THE STRONGEST BELT IN THE WORLD! That title may be a little bit of a stretch, but you get the point. In this video, I walk you through my process for making our Heritage style belt. Its a simple design, like all our other OLG products, but it works! Let me know what you think.

  • My real name is Michael McCluskey. I also do leather work. I have a 1938 Singer industrial sewing machine for sewing leather. I also rigged it to power it with bicycle pedals on an old dining room table. I cut out a hole to fit the sewing machine in and cut a slot to put a pulley belt through to run the sewing machine. What got me started was making a holster for a Zippo lighter and I did sell many of them.

  • I so appreciate you taking the time to make a longer video to show this. Yes, it could’ve been shorter. But, I appreciate the extra time and letting us apply our attention to your detail. Your generosity of time and knowledge is appreciated! I’ve been leather working for several years (off and on hobbyist). It’s only in the last year that I’ve made anything worth showing. My only education has been from gifted and giving craftsman such as yourself. Thank you! Have a great day!

  • As a hobbyist watching this video, I was really excited to see how you made the process very streamlined and simplified without cutting any corners in quality which I really enjoyed. I ended up going to your website for the first time ever just to buy the acrylic belt template that you've created and was just as blown away by the easy to navigate and well laid out format of your site. You've even gone a step above with no nonsense streamlined checkout options. To make a great experience even better was seeing your thank you message pop up after the transaction reinforcing that you appreciate every sale that goes through. Everything about this was a great experience. Thank you for making content that helps better the hobbyist like myself trying to improve, and also to show your consumer base buying from you how much work goes into every piece you make for the best quality.

  • Hands down, this is the best leather tutorial I've come across. In any language (YT Recommend somehow steered me towards a bunch of makers in Korea - well worth the hunt). Thank you. Teach me Teacher - you're not only showing how to do different techniques but 'why' you're doing them. I'm part-way through making my first belt (I'm saddle stitching the red lining to the black veg tan). It's really good to see all the steps laid out so clearly. Did I also mention that is a really beautifully made belt. It's going to be amazing in 10 years. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi

Today a work colleague has asked if I could make him a belt. This has been an amazing help. Though I will be hand stitching, mainly as I can't afford a leather sewing machine just yet. A quick query if I may, I'm in the process of deciding on a flatbed or cylinder arm machine to make my limited time more productive, if I was combining wallets, belts, collars and the odd bag, would it be better to have a cylinder or flatbed as a more "allround" machine?

  • That german waterbased stuff is amazing. I can't believe how good it is, and was super hesitant to leave my regular super stinky chemical thick regular oil based contact adhesive.

  • Very nice build! I went back a couple times and couldn’t find your needle size that you use with the 138 thread or do you just use the same size needle for your 138, 207 and 277.

    • I think I'm using a 22 or 23 needle in the Cobra 26 for 138 thread. You may have to adjust depending on your machine.

  • does the adhesive work well when making fold over single piece knife sheaths? Im bouncing between contact cement and seiwa glue. Seiwa doesent get tacky enough to keep thicker hides folded. I would like a non toxic adhesive that is comparative to contact cement.

  • Hi there sir. What type of leather and what thickness for a belt should I get for jeans that will last decades? I know nothing about belts. Do they make them out of one piece of leather or 2 glued together? Which will last longer? Which type of animal leather is the best? Thank you.

  • I’m new to the leather crafting arena. I’m hoping to make a variety of leather products. Right now, I’m making the wife and I a couple of holsters, at Christmas time, I made a friend of ours a can koozie for Christmas. Any suggestions on the types of leather products I should focus on to get myself established out there? Thank you in advance for your time and help.

  • When a video has nothing but very nauseating music the volume is very loud. An excellent video like this and I can barely hear it. I did hear enough to learn a lot. Thank you.
