  • For anyone who owns a digital keyboard (I have an ES920), I tried the OneOdio A71, ATH-M20x and M40x). I wanted to spend the minimum for headphones and the winner is the M40x. They provided the most natural sound, similar the onboard speakers. The other 2 sets had decent mids and highs but the low keys sounded too artificial and a little punchy. Thanks for the review and good luck to everyone

    • Agreed, the M40X is much better than the M50X for mixing. The M50X frequency response is not that flat so not really good for mixing. Many people think that they made it worse. The M40X was / is for me the go. Better than also the M70X where the High end is so bad...

  • I like that the ATH-M40x swivels and I love the fact that you can detach the cable and that it includes the coiled one. I have a set of SteelSeries that swivel that way and believe it or not, it makes it easier to put on or take off even with one hand. Also makes it easier to hang flush to my wall. Of course my SteelSeries are much more light and comfortable, but I use those for everyday use on my laptop. They also have the removeable cable and this is awesome because you can use any cable you want (any type, any length). I currently am using a coiled "griffin" cable I had around and it has worked awesome cause i don't have cables on the floor or on my lap. I own a pair ATH-M20x ( I use these for recording and editing my voice overs) and although the long (attached) cable may come in handy at some point, I usually work at my desk recording voice overs and the cable just dangles on the floor or I have to wind it up and hang it from a pushpin on the wall. I have at times (and by that I mean all the time) run over the cable with my chair and I have to say that it has held up fine over the years. The other thing I don't like about the cable, however, is that it has become hard and brittle near the headphones gradually getting worse over time (about 2 feet now). This makes storing them harder and it's just annoying. Also the cushions are starting to crack, but that I did expect of course. They sound great though. I will attempt to replace the cable at some point and of course the cushions should be relatively easy to replace if need be. I have a couple of older pairs of AT headphones from the early 2000s. They were about $70 ea and also sound amazing, but the cables started to fail. I need to replace those cables or connectors eventually. I've been looking to replace my ATH-M20x for a couple of years now and I am leaning towards the ATH-M40x just because of the swivel action, and the detachable cable option and the fact that it comes with 2 and one is coiled, perfect for using at my desk. PS Also the ATH-M20x are starting to crack (the plastic) where the metal headband meets the plastic on headphones.

  • I've had both wired and wireless 50x, for 6 years plus. Sounds are 10/10. Nothing really comes close. Build quality is really clean, but the leather tends to peel and leave leather on your ears and can get sweaty using them. At first, using it for long periods of time, it starts to hurt your head and ears but over time it gets better. With wired, the cable can get damaged and be annoying to get another one because you can only get it from them, fair enough. With durability, I pretty much abuse the things, and I have broken both of them at the same spot where I've over extended it the wrong way where it flexes, I wish they replaced the plastic bit with something stronger. The wireless are great and last a very long time during use. Summary - It's the best headset money can buy to date. Just look after them, and they will run forever. I'm literally about to buy another one lol.

  • came here wanting to switch from m20x to m50x, and i will say this about the m20's. For the price, they are phenomanal. I have used this pair for about 3 years now, and they held up good until now. Eventually, one side's ear band seemed to have unattached itself and ive been spending about 6 months using electrical tape to hold it in place (im a frugal man). Drivers wise, they are amazing for the price. Feel as if the low-end feels a bit more aggressive compared to my studio monitors, as well as the high end being a bit harsh at times. If you're a beginner on a budget, start with the m20x, and if you like them, upgrade in the future, like i am

    • @@TheRedbeefburger If you like your music to be very bass-y like some people you'll be a bit disappointed, though I wouldn't describe them as flat so much as "clean" (they're studio headphones after all, they're designed so you can hear the most balanced sound possible for recording purposes), also they do get uncomfortable after a few hours if you wear your headphones a lot. They sound fine with phones, no different than they do with computers, but the jack is pretty chunky so you might not be able to insert them properly if you're using a cover. And KZ crystal special editions + DAC, got all 4 of them for around + 32bit 384khz DAC/ADC (which does have some buffering issues, etc, but are great for playback) for around $35+$30+$25+$25+$30. I also recently tried Parrot Studio Pro things, and other Parrot things for $25 (which are essentially Onedio Pro 10 and Onedio Pro 50s, good sound staging, but sound isolation is not great, so I returned them coz I prefer the Powerworks, Prodipes and Alesis). I will say though, for around $35-40 the Parrot Studio Pro things are super comfortable, good soundstage, but they have recessed midtones, poor sound isolation and the range doesn't compare to the IEMs or any of the other headphones I use. And I kinda got them coz my dad is old, blind, has some hearing issues and I needed to get some headphones to sort of match his speakers, and he struggles to manage handling them a bit. I was tempted to keep the $25 Parrots (Onedio Pro 10s), but... Have a good day.
