Great idea. I guess you could make sliding stops in the other direction instead of using double-sided tape and also use a straight cutter with a bearing at the top. I would love to build something like that for routing the faceplate for locks on doors.

Thought I might have missed something! Yay! All that work, still using double sided tape, & had to clean up the corners with a utility knife. Maybe everything would be worth it if I knew what it was. A tiny recess in the middle of a board didn’t give me any immediate genius ideas but maybe my imagination was hampered as I believed that I would be informed of its purpose.🤷

I agree, perhaps it’s his version of a Mortising jig, or maybe a dado jig but either way I’m not sure if the guy making the video knew what it was…he seemed to move it around a lot at the end of the video wondering what to do next with it…

I had to watch it twice to understand what the device is. It's an excellent idea, but next time a demonstration of its use would be helpful.
hi. he already did when he trim an artifact using the device he made. The device was made so that the router blade surely won't go anywhere except inside the area need to be trimmed. But it's ok. I didn't see it too the first time

It is used for cutting mortises. There are many similar jigs for cutting mortises.

You have a drill press. Just use it and an end mill bit to plunge the majority and side clean the rest. You know, like a machinist.

The pretend mystery just makes many like myself skip to the end to see if its worth watching (as in will it be helpful to have in my shop) and the lack of any explanation or dialog makes the answer negative. I'm truly not trying to be a downer here. I'd love to see more that was clear and to the point. Have a nice day!
Like the comments above, and yours, (and I'm sure many below), it would be nice to know the purpose of the jig, "in the title". I did the same as others. skip to the end 1st, to see what to use it for. Call the video, "simple router guide", to give us a clue.

Я так понял, что вся эта гениальная конструкция нужна для того, чтобы струбцинами зажать не 4 дощечки, а 2 дощечки и "гениальную" конструкцию? Ну,... т.е. вместе с поперечными ограничителями так же легко можно было бы зажать и продольные... Не?

thought it was a dado guide for variable width dados. Don't know that I'd ever use it to make a hole in the middle of a board.
irgendwie wäre es eine gute Idee mal zu zeigen was der Sinn dieses Teils ist. Ein paar Bretter zusammensägen und eine Fräse nutzen, pardon aber etwas mehr Erklärung wäre hilfreich.

Larry Eubanks gave you the answer 6 or so comments prior to yours. This is a jig for cutting mortices in cabinet side case panels straight thru or stopped. It was featured in "Shop Notes" back in the '90s. It is absolutely perfect for that job.

now perpendicular stop blocks can be installed the same slot+bolt way so you don't have to tape blocks.

Why don't these videos ever start with the WHAT and the WHY of the jig before going into the HOW part?
