Joe Frazier defends his Heavyweight Championship against the murderous punching George Foreman. Foreman shockingly destroys Frazier by knocking him down 6 times in 2 rounds. It's an all time legendary fight and career defining performance for Big George Foreman. I mixed in the commentary call from the two legendary announcers, Don Dunphy and Howard Cosell. If you notice, I slowly start off the fight with mostly Don Dunphy announcing the fight. But as the fight gets more dramatic Howard Cosell's infamous "Down goes Frazier" can be heard. As the realization of Frazier losing becomes more eminent I switch the call back to the Don Dunphy call as the intensity subsides and the looming tone of sadness arises.
It's important to note Frazier's training wasn't at the same intensity as it was in the past, and the grueling fight with Ali definitely took a little out of Frazier. At any rate, Foreman makes a thunderous impact as a powerful and formidable fighter in the Heavyweight division.
"Do not remember Joe Frazier as the man who was knocked down six times. Remember Joe Frazier as the man who got back up six times."
Ali said that :)
And still be KNOCKED DOWN 🤣
He WAS knocked down! That's what scored Foreman points 🤷🏿♀️

Even though he lost to Foreman, years later Frazier actually was a little humorous about the fight when a reporter asked a question about it. Reporter: "What was your biggest mistake in the fight with George Foreman?" Frazier: "Signing that contract." 😂

The city of Philadelphia is not worth a damn. The put a statue up of some fiction character name rocky but not a real heavyweight champion name Joe Frazier. Dont dear tell me that statue represents him.
Stallone paid for his statue though.

Getting up quickly 6 times ; this the most impressive fact in this battle
Great Recovery.
Impressive but stupid, they’d never let it go that far these days.
That's how unbelievably tough joe was
8 ounce gloves, this fight was never going to go the distance.
One of the toughest EverrrrrR
Joe Frazier was a true warrior, complete gladiator. I can not say enough good things about the man, true credit to the sport. Rest in peace, Joe, you'll always be my favorite gladiator.
Yep. A total badass.

Joe Frazier lose to George Foreman because he was blind of one eye
God bless in heaven Joe Frazier Amen
Never saw a fight for freizer where he was hurt like this and the fact he got up fast what a heart
Joe Frazier lose to George Foreman because he was blind of one eye
Joe Frazier had a great champions heart and a granite willed character to win and to rise up from shots like this.
Frazier went out on his shield in both fights, as well in the Ali fights. what a fuckin warrior.
Frazier even getting up after the 2:05 punch is insane
Man Foreman was a monster
Bruh that's what I said. That punch was brutal. Joe a real warrior for getting up. Props to both fighters.
I admire how Foreman kept looking at Frazier's corner and pleading with them to stop the fight, even when it delayed the 8-count from starting.
He did that cuz he was actually afraid of Frazier he even once said "damn if they dont stop this fight quick he might come and get me"
@@kushalvishwakarma8562 Because he is humble man now, he praise everybody all the time, he even said that he was afraid of Frazier but reality is that George Foreman was afraid of no man, that man fought wars in 70 and in 90, never duck fight never KO but once in carrer, and it was more collapse from exhaustion than from hard punches. So no he was not afraid and there was no chance that Joe could win that fight. Besides they fought in remach again, remember?
While it was a savagely one-sided match and Big George was amazing, you've just got to admire Frazier for continuing to stand up when he could barely even see straight. That would have taken balls of solid rock.
Truth
one punch from both of them, will take me dancing with the stars..Frazier was truly a warrior
Joe Frazier lose to George Foreman because he was blind of one eye
Thanks... the early 70's was definitely the golden era of HW history. Most believe it to be the best HW era. I am one of those people, although the 90's is the next best and has a very strong case. Foreman was a champion in that era too. The guy won in two of the toughest eras ever. Says a lot about the man.
It says the 90's era was less skilled or less tough or both
@IronTapeProductions, I couldn't agree more!!
Man, I doubt we'll ever see so many badasses at once like this.
George was a monster. He knocked Frazier around like a punching bag. His reach and strength were tremendous. Watching Ali take down Foreman after this fight was pretty incredible. He took all the punishment Foreman could give, survived, and saved enough energy to overwhelm the giant
Like Clockwork64 still Frazier > Ali
Styles make the fight, Ernie Shavers was at ringside at this fight and remarked that after the 5th round Foreman was cooked. Ali had the perfect style and fight to beat Foreman, and exposed a weakness that future opponents would try to take advantage of.
@@ChristIsGod777 Ali>Frazier no disrespect
Ali was greatest. That was difference between others.
@@ChristIsGod777 nahhh, Joe could take Ali's punches but he is not a better boxer than Ali. Ali was never annihilated by any rival like Joe was here against foreman

Joe Frazier was one tough man! Getting up every time for 6 times! Phew! And George you were one wildly solid puncher.!
The most shockingly devastating fight of all time, hands down! Of course NOW everyone knows how incredible big George was, but Foreman was a severe underdog in that fight and he punched a lifetime of concussions into one of the greatest fighters of all time in just 2 rounds
Foreman was an underdog just because frazier had beaten Ali
He didn't get knocked down 8 times, he got up 8 times. As someone pointed out, 21 years later Michael Moorer didn't get up from one of these punches thrown by a 45 year old Foreman. That is a testament to the toughness of Joe Frazier
50 years back, still one of the legendary fights!!
That sixth knockdown Frazier was lifted off the ground! Now that’s power!
I don't think enough has been said about how great this video is. Really nice, thank you IronTapeProductions.
Joe was a CHAMPION. This clip say it is so, Even though Foreman knocked him to the canvas '6' times Joe got up '6' times. This man was heart, courage, and a noble competitor. R.I.P., Joe. From an Ali AND Frazier fan. Both were warriors.
Mike Tyson would never get up from one of those.
BRUTAL!!! just BRUTAL!!
Much respect to both of these GREAT fighters!
George foreman has the most ferocious punching power I've ever seen
@kamikaze I've gone back to intensely watch Big George's other fights - Ali, Lyle, Norton and the others. Did same with Tyson & Ernie Shavers & the guy from Jamaica. I believe Foreman punch power is a bit stronger than Ernie Shavers who has everybody else beat...not by much, but
@@morrisbrown2043George was a monster puncher, but the four fighters that fought them both-Ali, Lyle, Norton, and Young- all said Shavers hit harder.
@@chrisreidy439Earnie had the most powerful right hand one-shot. But Foreman when it comes to raw strength, it's the most powerful boxer ever.
When they say it's not about how hard you can hit but how hard you get hit and keep moving forward. that saying comes alive watching this man
Fighters fought with so much heart back then.
Frazier was a tough cookie! Any one else when they went down the first time would have stayed down to keep from getting killed. ;-)
Damn, Cosell knows how to sell a fight. He makes it sound exciting and dramatic, and he's great at it.
You make a good point. Foreman is underrated, especially in regards to his skills and H2H fantasy matchups. Eventually, he would've had to run in Holmes though. The thing is - this is a Foreman that set things up with the jab. It took this and the Norton fight for him to go back to his clubbing ways. He fell in loves with his power. And once he lost to Ali he was mentally broken. As far as upsets, you forgot Ali vs Liston I and Douglas vs Tyson. Those were big too.
I like how you've edited this video, friend. I haven't seen this fight til now, and i can say, this is one of the most brutal fights i have ever seen. Respect to Frazier, for getting up those 6 times, and waning to continue -- what a fighter spirit he had... Foreman as in his prime as in his 40-ties, was one of the scariest boxers to ever face.
40th anniversary of this fight....I was 10 years old...I thought Foreman was a juggernaut with no weakness...he vaporized Frazier like no else had done.

EXCELLENT arrangement, putting Dunphy and Cosell's commentary together like that. Great editing and soundtrack!
Great video clip. Music score was perfect. Again Great job.
When people think back to this fight, they remember the great show of power that George Foreman demonstrated, and they should. But they should always remember the great show of COURAGE that Joe Frazier demonstrated also.
The referee should take a couple of straight rights from Foreman for not having stopped it earlier.
Hats off to you! This is awesome!

Man, Frazier popping up after those first knockdowns and throwing some insanely fast and powerful punches. They missed, but not by much, and if they'd have hit home...could have been an entirely different outcome. Legendary warrior, legendary fight.
Foreman was never stopped by damage in over 70 fights. He was only ever stopped against Ali, by exhaustion rather than punches.

Frazier was a fool to take that fight ,his team did not want him to take the Foreman fight but Joe insisted . Foreman was to big,to strong. Joe should have listened to his handlers.
He actually would have made more money fighting Ali. He didn't like the fact that Ali would have made the same amount as him, which was $3 million. He instead took on Foreman for $800k and got destroyed.

This was a mismatch. Frazier thought Foreman was Ali. One of the most brutal beating of all times.

Joe Frazier showed real heart to keep getting up. Tough as nails. Today's fighters would have been finished after the first big shot landed. If only the Foreman - Tyson bout had come off in the early 90's. What a fight that would have made. I say that because Frazier and Tyson are similar in some ways, though Tyson was quicker&slicker.Foreman was a better boxer in his older years, and still had immense power..would have been a dangerous opponent for Mike even then.
one of the worse beating ever.
Foreman had the power, the youth, the skills and too much "want to" for Smokin Joe in this one. A thorough ass beating of a Gladiator is tough to watch.

Amen to the description about "murderous punching" by George Foreman, jeez... going into this fight I think Frazier due to the Ali fight was a favorite- well, after 6 knock downs... not so favorite anymore lol.
It's said that Frazier would trade punches with his opponent; he would let them land a few punches so that he could get in one good one. That worked against most, but not against George Foreman.
Frazier's out of shape and Foreman's in his prime but still this has to be the most stunning devastating defeat of a legitmate heavyweight champ in boxing history

I uploaded the fight in HD format which further enhances the quality. Thanks for you subscribing, and definitely more good stuff to come.
It seems that he was so focused on moving his head and upper body a lot to avoid the punches that he got so dizzy and lost his balance a lot 🤣🤣
Joe’s strategy of blocking George’s punches with his head apparently didn’t work!

Remember joe frazier as the only man who could equally match ali in a fight and gave ali his hardest fight and the greatest boxing match in history/ Joe Frazier is extremely underrated. In this match you can see he really wasn't himself. He wasn't in form and he wasnt fighting right. If you want to see him for real watch him fight ali.
He wasn't himself because he got the crap banged out of him by a monster which Ali wasn't.
