PLOT:
Act 1.
We find ourselves in a Canadian prison in 1927. Bishop Jean Bilodeau has come to give a "dying" man his last rites, however, he finds an old acquaintance instead. The prisoner in question, Simon, confronts him with tales of days gone by and his fellow inmates aid him in telling his story, the story of when they were young - before Simon was imprisoned.
We're taken back to Roberval, fifteen years prior and see young Simon and his close friend/lover Vallier de Tilly - an impoverished young French count who was left in Roberval by his father with his hopelessly romantic mother five years ago. They are sitting by the lake on a sunny afternoon, kissing. Simon goes back to the school early, but Vallier stays behind. He is confronted by young Jean Bilodeau, who's seen everything. He's seen them cuddle, kiss and he thinks it's wrong, disgusting and a sin. Vallier stands up to him and says it's nothing of the sort, it is love. Jean says he doesn't believe him, but Vallier reassures Jean that they are both in love. Vallier says he is sure Simon loves him too, because every time Simon gets upset, he doesn't know what to do with his love for Vallier and sets fire to one of the buildings in town. Vallier leaves and goes to join Simon back at school.
Simon and Vallier are rehearsing a play about the life of Saint Sebastian with the school director, Father Saint Michel. Father Saint Michel feels unappreciated by the school and town, because no one agrees with his artistic and new ideas. Young Jean plays a part in the play and was supposed to be there as well, so Father Saint Michel gets upset that young Jean is late and goes to fetch him. In his absence, Vallier and Simon are making fun of the ridiculous play, start teasing each other and end up kissing. Vallier asks Simon to say he loves him, Simon starts listing things he loves about Vallier, but never actually says "I love you". They get interrupted by Bishop Jean Bilodeau who says he's had enough.
Young Jean enters and confronts Simon.

We’re just leaving the theatre now and it was AMAZING! I think I was more nervous than @Philip Janssen 😂 There wasn’t a dry eye in the house and I’m feeling very proud right now ❤️❤️❤️
This gives me hope for humanity!
Bravo Philip!🧡

Break a leg Phillip thanks for sharing how wonderful.
The lengths some people will go to to avoid gardening....;)
Cyd here in the USA. Stella Adler once said..."The actor has to develop his body. The actor has to work on his voice. But the most important thing the actor has to work on is his mind." You have wonderful instincts and a gigantic heart. They will never let you down. Much success in this production and "cheers" to many more. 🎭
Brilliant comment. Ditto.
Your voice is beautiful. I think we all think of you as our family. Congratulations.
This is amazing, well done Philip and best of luck for the show!
Wow Phillip, I have been watching the Chateau Diaries and came across this video of you singing. What an amazing voice
It’s so cool to see this play that originated from my small part of the world (Quebec, Canada) now being played in a different language on the other side of the world. Congrats Philip! 😊
Wow, what a blast from the past! I studied this play in my first year of university - it was a much beloved script by one of my profs who had directed a production with students the year prior. I'd be so curious to hear how a Quebecois play made it into the hands of a Dutch playwright and how it was adapted. The world seems to be very small sometimes!
How wonderful that you have an opportunity to show your artistic talents Philip. Enjoy, but please hurry back to Lalande when it is over, we miss you.
Great job Philip, you really are talented 🥂Did anyone else thing that one of the guys looked like a young Hugh Grant.
I wish I could have seen this in person. Your talent shines in so many areas, and this is no exception. Beautiful voice, great performance. Sending lots of love! ♥♥♥ PS: As someone who was born in Quebec and understands the whole oppressive Catholic culture, this play is especially interesting.
I live in Canada so, thanks for the sneak peak since there's no way we'll get to your performance. Anyway, just want to send you best wishes for a fantastic weekend.
Break a leg Phillip, thanks for sharing with us how wonderful

OMG, that was AMAZING, please share as much as you can here on KZhead. Since I am living in Los Angeles going to see this production isn't in the cards for me, but I am so thankful to see what you provided. I was particularly moved by the juxtaposition of the bleakness of the cell with the inspired hope of the dream of Paris.
