I've never seen a mechanic/Tech dressed so clean!!!!
Clean shop, clean tech makes a clean engine/job! This video was filmed specifically for this how to video, but we do strive to keep a clean shop and all of our techs wear clean uniforms (they don't stay this clean all day). Thanks!
Ever seen a racing team? The cleaner you keep your environment (tools, parts, air, self) the cleaner the end product. You might get your hands dirty, but you don’t have to start dirty.
Working in a shop must be so much better! Working in the sun all day with oily engines makes it a lot harder to keep clean
I watched this man and his shop on rodeo Reed, everything this man has and does is top of the line work from what I've seen
Masterful! Thank you from an N14 owner.
Glad you enjoyed it!
It good idea.. 👍 Please keep contamination control(plug) on the return line Turbocharger
Heck id love too do this with the engine out of the truck lol, clean shop makes for a clean engine repair. Good looking olace!!
Thank you very much friend for a wonderful informations .
These are great videos you need to keep posting these they're very informative and if you could do some information on Cummings isx15 also would be greatly appreciated you have a world is great information you have an absolutely wonderful business I've watched you on Rodeo read, when he had his Caterpillar engine in there and you overhauled the entire engine
More to come!
Gotta love the cats
Good job bravo
YOU are the best GREAT EXPLAINING EVERTHING, I WATCH YOU on rodeo .
Awesome! Thank you!
Cool Video ( CAT Power Baby )
I've taken apart that same caterpillar engine in my shop
Hola, quisiera obtener conocimientos y experiencia por parte de profesionales como ustedes, veo que hacen un excelente trabajo
Great vid I just replaced a turbo and manifold today on a c15 fitted to a 740 dump truck I've always wondered why the long studs and spacers not just short studs?
My guess is someway to help dissipate the heat to prevent warping? Idk never really thought about it
It's more of a matter of clearance for where the manifold angles down right there.
Thank you
That’s sweet I need to research if this set up will fit my 99 3406e
Thank you sir! It should fit your E model just fine.
That’s quite a beefy looking manifold where the turbo bolts .A lot thicker than the stock manifold. What is your opinion of the switchback turbo?
The Switchblade Turbo is what I'm looking at right now. Just doing my homework before spending thousands.
"Sometimes if one wrench don't work use two" Camera man takes 3 steps back 😂
I love the double wrench trick. Been using it close to 25 years. Works awesome in a tight space. Good way to bust your knuckles if you aren't careful too lmao.
What are your thoughts on heating the bolts up first one at a time before u put the wrench to them ? Heat then till they are red hot is what I was told. Then while they are hot you put the wrench on them. Can u reach that bottom bolt with a crows foot ? And extension ? Great video. All the great ones make it look easy. No matter what they do. Baseball , chess , race drivers or In your case, working on trucks. U give some of us bolt on bolt off bandits confidence to tackle these bigger jobs. Thanks.
Thanks for watching and the feedback! There are many different tips of the trade that are available for sure. We don't heat them here in our shop, not saying that's not a good idea, but we do not do it. Be sure to subscribe for more upcoming videos.
@@pdidiesel If you heat those bolts up first like the person above said and set the TQ it will be wrong after they cool. We were taught that doing this changed the TQ as the metal cannot adjust. Don't really know if it is correct or not, but going through aviation mechanic school they said it took away from the metal strength.
Awesome job
Thanks!
Great Video
Glad you enjoyed it Thanks!
Very nice video
Yeah
Professional channel Bravo colleagues Regards from Stoparts Ltd
Thanks for visiting
@@pdidiesel Thank You too sir.
Great tech great work!
Thanks! 👍
Great video bud
Thanks 👍
When's the video of the twin turbo set up you guys have for these engines coming out?
We will have one soon! Thanks for watching, make sure you subscribe for upcoming videos.
Sure would be nice if you made a Cat 3116 manifold that would allow the use of a modern VGT turbo. Older FMTV trucks definitely need a power boost
Do you have any proven power gains to your big boss? Very curious to know how it makes more power and increase fuel ext ext?
The gain in efficiency and power is the air flow, the Big Boss utilizes the stainless steel exhaust housing to maximize the air flow, combined with our custom designed compressor housing it creates a very efficient turbo, great drive ability and no turbo lag. Lowering the exhaust temp allows you to work the truck down lower while pulling a grade and get the best fuel efficiency possible.
Is this set up only for the c-15? May this set up be used on the cat A and B engines also? Any information is greatly appreciated!! Or does it depend on the year! 79 3406a or b
It will work on the B model as long as it has the updated round cylinder port head. If it's the original square/rectangle port it will not.
I’m looking into putting that manifold on a 99’ Cat 2ws
Perfect, you'll love the performance and longevity! Give us a call if we can help 1-888-588-7113
I wish they would show how the oil cooler water pump hose should be connected to the top-side on the P/S engine mount BEFORE reinstalling the turbo and down tubes or else you'll fight for an hour trying to get the hose clamp strapped down tight, and look like a fool in front of your shop manager if you don't have that part planned ahead of time!
Unfortunately in this video the engine we were using out of the truck already. But that it is a great point! Thanks for watching and be sure to subscribe to our channel. Thanks!
Do you guys do these installations for us or is this more of a do it your self type of thing?
We have a 10 bay full service shop in Southern Utah that we do installations in, and we also have 60-65 PDI Authorized Dealers across the USA and Canada that will install as well. You may also purchase the parts and do the installation yourself, or have a mechanic shop of your choosing install them. We create the step by step videos for that purpose. Thanks for watching!
@@pdidiesel Any pdi dealers in Saskatchewan Canada?
how much turbo boost can you safely run on this turbo i had to put a waste gate turbo on my 3406b because my borg warner turbo which was rated for 550 hp was pegging my gauge at 45 psi
Most engines with our manifold, turbo and tuning run between 30-38 lbs of manifold pressure. The turbo will safely handle 40+ lbs, but with the right set up it should be in the mid to upper 30's.
Will this turbo make that sweet howling sound like the stock turbo on a Cat 3406E 550
Even better!
Whats the difference between the regular exhaust manifold and the low mount exhaust manifold for the c15? and how can I tell which one I need for my c15 6nz?
It is the angle of the turbo mounting flange. Most long hood trucks have the regular/standard mount, and the sloped hood trucks have the low mount. The low mount sits the turbo down lower to create better clearance for the turbo to clear the hood. You can be certain which one you need by getting the casting # from your OE center section of your manifold and call us to cross reference. 1-800-511-1231 Thanks!
Do you have video of how to remove turbo from c12?
We do not, not for a C12 specific. But the concept would be really quite close to this C15 video. Same basic steps.
Are there any horsepower gains going with your manifold and turbo setup?
Yes sir! On a CAT application, they will gain roughly 30-40 HP to the ground.
@@pdidiesel thank you, that's awesome!
How much of an increase would you see on a Cat 3126 with these parts and your PDI tune?
15% gain over stock HP/TQ with just the tuner, and gains another 30-40 with our manifold and turbo upgrade! There is a video of a C7 in a motorhome on here that will show you the dyno #'s. They run great!
@@pdidiesel 30-40% or 30-40HP?
question, why not just make the manifold one piece and eliminate the seals and potential leaks?
Great question! The manifold needs to be able to expand and contract as it heats and cools with engine exhaust temperature. Thus the reason for the expansion joints. If it were one piece it would shear off the studs holding it to the cylinder head as it expanded. Thank you for the question!
@@pdidiesel but doesn't some companies make one piece manifolds?
Normally there are a few to drill out
hello i have a leak in exhoust manifold we have volvo penta TAD1641GE AND it is a new engine
Hi and thanks for watching. Unfortunately we don't build a replacement manifold for the Volvo.
@@pdidiesel good becuase volvos are junk anyway. stick to cat, cummins and detroit
I want to upload a 615 c15 to 600 hp, what would you do ??
Give us a call 888-588-7113 Thanks
Is there. Kit for the 3406B engine?
If it has the round exhaust ports in the head (newer style) then this exhaust manifold will work, and we have a great turbo for the B model.
How much is that setup worth plus retune ?
The exhaust manifold is $1450, Install kit (studs, nuts, gaskets) is $425, Turbo with elbow kit $3020 and the Big Boss Tuner is $2350. So all in you'd be $7245 plus shipping. Give us a shout if you'd like more info or to get some parts coming 1-888-588-7113 Thanks!
What it's cost to complete over haul 2001 3406 550 hp engine?
It totally depends on the build. If you would like a custom quote, please give our sales team a call 888-588-7113. Thanks for watching!
pdidiesel appreciate for your reply I'll do that when I'm ready Thank You
It's all fun and games until u break like 9 banifold bolts and its in a freightliner Columbia
That IS a bad day!
You mean 3406E and C-15, not the C15 (ACERT).
Correct, this video is showing a CAT single turbo manifold install. We do build a manifold for the C-15 Accert engine as well, but we have not filmed an install video for that one.
pdidiesel I as just nitpicking since the C-15 (note the dash ‘-‘) is the 6NZ and the C15 (no dash) is the ACERT. Never could understand why Cat kept such a similar (and often misused) identifier for their different 15L (14.8/15.2) engines. There’s a guy on here that builds 6NZ engines with the ACERT crank giving a 15.2L displacement. 16:1 pistons, 4 bolt rods, stronger cranks. Definitely inter dated in that along with one of your turbos/intakes/exhaust manifolds (extrude honed) and tuned by Mr. Haney (Kurt).
@@elijahrobinson2362 you are such a duechebag dude. get a life
Brady Bunch tutorial- We want to see this done while engine is still in the truck- Outside in the elements- Most of us cant pull a motor to replace exhaust manifolds ,turbos ,heads and the like.
Thanks for the feedback, we try to make good step by step installation videos. Filming in the 10 bay shop with air tools and 7-8 mechanics all working in there makes it really hard to film a good video. This video with the engine on the ground vs. in the truck is nearly the same steps you would take if the engine was in a truck though, just a little different work space.
That looks like a 90mm turbo
This is actually a 78 mm, our Big Boss with Stainless hot housing.
not realistic all brand new super clean : perfect working order , looks perfect now please pay 55,000 thousand dollar for our perfect video we made
Calm down Karen.. it's an installation video.
Such bullshit, do this when it’s mounted in a semi
Well Matt.. We do that every day in our full service shop. Unfortunately the lighting, sound optics and the other 7 bays with air guns running do not make for a real high quality video that is designed to give a DIY guy some assistance in changing a turbo. Thanks for your recommendation, but I think we will stick to our current process of creating how to videos for customers purchasing our Big Boss products! Thanks for watching.
in fram is no big deal just a little higher in the air
