This video will show you how to trim Aussies ears for at home and for the show! Do this a few days in advance before the show so the hair has time to grow a little and look more natural. Below are the tools I used in this video:
1) Slicker Brush: Chris Christensen Mark III
www.amazon.com/Chris-Christen...
2) Fine Tooth Comb: ARTERO P249
hwww.amazon.com/Artero-3D-Natu...
3) Curved Shears: Show Gear 6.5” Curved

4) Thinning Shears: Artero Onix (NEW Favorite)

  • Very helpful video! I groom my mini Aussie at home. When I get to my Aussie's ears I never know how to groom them properly and her ears just look weird. Your video is very detailed, but straight-forward. I think I can do this! Thank you!

    • So sorry it’s been a year since I’ve seen this 😱 you can exercise beforehand, be calm yourself and firm, and just keep practicing! They will get the hang of it

  • Thank you so much! I have a 1 year old toy Aussie and didn’t know what the standard cut would be for her ears and tail. Mine will need a lot of patience to get her to be still! Work in progress! Yours is so good! Do you have one for trimming the tail and feathering on the back legs?

    @Aussiemommy@Aussiemommy3 ай бұрын
    • I don’t yet but the feathers are on my list to do. For the tail, I have one if it is docked. Check out the grooming playlist for that one

  • Hi! When you say 6-7” thinning shears is 6.5” okay? I ordered Sharf Gold Touch Pet Shears, 6.5" 42-Tooth Thinning Shear for Dogs, 440c Japanese Stainless Steel Dog Thinning Shears from Amazon. Is this okay to use on my Aussie? Love your videos and can’t wait to groom my pup!!

  • How much do recommend spending for beginner thinning shears that can get the job done?

    @alexromero6249@alexromero62493 жыл бұрын
    • I would not recommend going too inexpensive since good shears will last you a very long time! $70-$100 would be a good range.

      @sandollaraussies@sandollaraussies3 жыл бұрын
    • @@sandollaraussies Alex asked about beginners sheers not professional ones. I wouldn't spend more that $20. They should last at least a couple years and won't break the bank if they need replacing.

  • Hi, my dog, Buddy, has never gotten a haircut before. He gets too nervous and they won’t trim him because of it. He’s 3 and he really need a haircut he has really long front (arm?) hair and his ears are very hairy inside we occasionally trim his butt furs so poop and things don’t hit stuck in it . I was wondering if you can show how to cut the inside of the ears. I do not have thinning shears and cannot buy expensive ones do you know if there are cheap good quality ones? Thanks

    @RhysWelch-ck5vk@RhysWelch-ck5vk Жыл бұрын
    • I do have that in here around time 9:26 for trimming the inside. Check back and let me know if you have any questions! I don't have much experience with other scissors but amazon has a lot of options. Check out thinning shears for people, they seem to have more available at a cheaper price.

  • I taped my Aussies ears when he was younger( he is now 8 months old) but every time I grab his ears or cut some hair he twitches his ear. Do you have any tips? And do you have any tips for dogs with uneven ears(one of his ears is a button ear and the other is more of a rose ear)? I am still hoping to show him in conformation but we will see.

    @MeganLapcinski@MeganLapcinskiАй бұрын
    • He probably just doesn’t like it or it tickles. Repetition should help him get more used to it. You can keep trying with the tape or this moleskin method until 1 years old for his rose ear. For show weekends, you can try taping the night before and taking it off right before ring time. Sometimes they will hold long enough for the ring

  • Are we supposed to trim the top of their head? Our Aussie has so much hair on the top of his head. It’s not flat like Aubrey’s!

    @naseemheydari9119@naseemheydari91192 жыл бұрын
    • No, don’t trip the top unless he has longer hairs that stick out (seniors generally have this). I never trim their heads until they are older and start to get uneven but even then you don’t really need to. Males are going to have more coat everywhere than females too
