  • Wonderful to see the Kompri valley again. I did a midnight emergency run along there in my jeep to Kainantu in the early sixties carrying a pregnant woman who was having delivery problems. It was a close call with mother and new child both requiring blood transfusions.

  • Yes, I have that T-shirt Ryan, love it as we used to live at Ukrumpa back in the mid 70’s. Also the other t-shirt with Cut Off Pull Off Shut Off. Walking down the street here in Bairnsdale Victoria this week I have three blokes say I love you T-Shirt! Regards Roger

  • I can remember flying this same route in the 80s as a missionary kid in one of NTMs Cessna 185s. Very fond memories for sure. Great view of Numonohi. It looked like a fun flight of 2. My first loops and rolls were in a North American T6. Thanks Ryan.

  • Brings back some old memories of flying C130's in/out of Goroka. Tip: Don't wish to rain on your parade, but maybe do some formal formation training at some point. It'll be fun and a whole lot safer.

  • That was great fun Ryan! A double challenge formation flying the low route with those clouds about. Interesting to listen to the radio calls too - ATC may be primative in much of PNG and must require a lot of individual discipline but it seems very effective. The low route to Aiyura with a low ceiling is a very interesting sim flight, though the first time I did it I found that arcing base/final turn surprisingly awkward, resulting in several go arounds!

  • Like the video. I’ve done lots of formation flying, however not recently. Comms is super important. Having ADSB IN really helps in deconfliction and terrain avoidance. It makes safe flying way better. ADSB has really transformed the aviation environment for the good. It only occurred in the last 20 years. What a transformation to the ATC system..

  • Formation flying is exciting and fun. When I was young I used to go in dawn patrol from Moorabbin Vic Australia. Not sure but it used to be a yearly thing and my dad and I always looked forward to it. Not sure if you can find any info or footage of it but would love to recreate it one day. What do you think?

  • Ryan - nice flight with you and Brad. I am curious though, having flown in formation while an active pilot, as to whether or not, you and Brad discussed and planned your flight and routines, before getting into your aircraft? I am guessing not, as you and Brad seemed to be shifting back and forth, form you being on his right to his left etc. You seem to be the more experienced pilot, so would be interested in your comments on this question. As always, I appreciate the time and effort you put into providing us, your audience with excellent video content.
