Yesssss!
I heard a better version, where they simply sang fantastic!! Not that this isnt good😂
Yes!!!
Yes
Can yall write another banger? Please 🙏
Song has always felt private and intimate. Like we were invited to a private conversation. I think it's what makes it so legendary
what are friends?
lame comment
Boo on you then
@@johnd3124 you bell end
Especially the back turn she does
13 years later this song is still a masterpiece!
Great songs never age
Absolutely a masterpiece
Really! With the melody copied from baa baa black sheep
Agreed.
@@429supercj I think it is ourselves who stop growing after a certain age. The feelings and the nostalgia, mainly the ones from youth, are still there and are still young. I wonder if we could have the same experiences after 30 and after 40 and remember them in our 50's and 60's.
Kimbra’s verse and her performance push this song from great to legendary.
Big deal its Baa Baa Black Sheep, not very original...
Truly. REN and Chinchilla “Chalk Outlines” is another powerful duet.
No it doesn't the chorus makes this legendary
Exactly. I like the song bcz of her
It reminds me of the postal service song nothing better. The song doesnt hit unless you hear both sides. Without kimbra its gotye just crying into his beer and that shit gets old quick instead of ppl still listening what 13 years later. Kimbra i had hoped would build on those quirky solo performances of settle down but ended up a particular brand of pop i find easily forgettable unfortunately.
Proving that a song doesn't need to be overproduced to be powerful.
Big deal its Baa Baa Black Sheep, not very original...
Was anyone saying that a song *had* to be overproduced to be powerful?
There’s probably 100k worth of instruments and sound equipment in that room.
@@millroyboy07he has told overproduced, and this is live with live instruments, not prerecorded samples or complex sequences. A philarmonic orchestra playing live is overproduced then?
So true
Almost 15 years later and this song is still so fucking good. So original, emotional and the depth of instrumental expertise is just….the best.
Wait... did you just say 15 years???... 😦
15 years ago..... Dang.
2011 was 20 years ago.
A melodia é plágio de uma música Brasileira do brasil
And now I’m just somebody I used to know
What is most impressive about this song is how important it is to EVERY one of us. A song that we all can relate to.
This song is not important to me.
@@loganfields159 Says the one who looks up a decade-old song? Nice ;)
Well, almost all of us...
When this song was first released, I was deeply in love and certain this would never be me. Now this story has become my reality, and I have unwittingly been cast in a leading role. It's nice to know I'm not alone.
Both Gotye and Kimbra deserve so much more than to be remembered as a one hit wonder
Because the lyrics will always reach into the souls of those who hear. I believe this is a timeless song.
But what a wonder it is.
gotye never made any music after this
Yes! It was one collab but something that would be loved forever.
@@xyz.anonymous Yeah I know, but ask the average person to name one other song off Making Mirrors or any song off Like Drawing Blood and I'd be surprised if they could
Would you all like to see Gotye & Kimbra collab again?
Definitely
Obviously
I always wonder why Gotye never wrote another song for a duo to sing ? Kimbra and Gotye were magic together.
Yes please.
Absolutely!
The maturity of this song as it’s performed later on really speaks to that of the generation that latched onto this gem.
You believe maturity is a Hallmark of this generation?
@@loganfields159 🙌🏻
If a handful of songs would describe entire generations, we would really be much worse off, depending on which ones you pick. Perhaps it's best Eric Clapton's "Cocaine" or The Outfield's "Your Love" does not describe most people of that time. They are banging songs, but neither snorting coke nor f*cking your girlfriend's friend are really something glorious and I would like to hope most were more "mature" than that.

It’s 2011 and me and my gf (now wife) are driving home after a long day at the beach. We’re stuck in LA traffic and this song starts playing on the radio. It’s our first time ever hearing the song. We sat there in silence. Other cars around us are also tuned in to the radio in playing the same song. It was the peak of the hipster era. It was magical.
I've been in LA for a long time and I remember that year as the year where I couldn't walk anywhere without hearing this song at least every 15 minutes. Random stores, cars, food stands, just speakers on the streets, everywhere. I love LA so much. I recently moved and I miss it with every fiber of my being.

No one cares 🥱
@@mrredundant8017 I'm genuinely curious to people like you. Why did you feel the need to make this comment?
@@mrredundant8017 You just don't care because you're sad and lonely. Sorry you had to hear about a happy couple. Go get comfort with your incel buddies.
Every live recording of this song is pure gold
Her interpretation. The way she sings her verse. The way she turns her back on him when the chorus returns... the way all this feels raw and organic. Bravo!
I HATED her singing... sounded like every other generic pop star on the radio in the 2020's.... just my opinion
@@benjaminkenobi21 pretty bland indeed, but she did compliment the song imo, ignoring the bad parts of her singing I still like she's a part of it.
I feel her pain! He did her so wrong. She wanted his love not his friendship. She howls as an interpretation for crying. They each complimented each other’s choir in which we, the brokenhearted, are the only ones to understand 😢💔😩
It’s only the greatest thing someone has ever heard or the worst thing ever . I feel like a lot of KZheadr commenters are a special subset of moronic humans .
I, Chinese!
The whole act is just a masterpiece: he sings and she's not there, she sings and he doesn't look, then he sings again as she turns her back and they both sing, much like when a relationship is over. You always find yourself having something to say, shout or ask but the person is long gone, and all you can catch or remember is a glimpse of their look when they went away or you left, as they look at each other at the end of the song. Brilliant!
I loved that part of it too. So subtle yet powerful.
I never noticed that…. Interesting…. I had to go rewatch it and the video/audio connection suddenly made perfect sense…. Still an awesome song I can put in rotation….
Thanks for pointing it out - I was just listening to this then I watched the video again because of this comment. Loved it, added more depth to an already great song.
For those old enough to remember, or for those who just like classic rock, this has a very strong Police/Sting sound to it.
Always thought that!like a homage to Police and Sting.
Always thought is was a sting and Katy Perry. Till today
Yeah I get that too

This song impacted me when it hit the news. I was looking at music from Australia and NZ and there it was. I still like it at 76 years. Go Gotke and Kimbra
u was old when this came out
Hey Edward, i'm 76 too but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy what was used to be called "pop" music mainly intended for a young audience at the time. What the hell, we've both heard thousands of songs in our time so we know when we hear something special - like this. Reckon the lyrics will have an uncomfortable familiarity for many.
“Now you’re just somebody that I used to know” stays so relevant of a line because we’ve all been there. We had someone that was the center of our being turn into a stranger. I could write a thousand words on that but that’s why this song is so perfect. It explains the entire situation, simply and accurately. I remember where I was when I heard the towers fall, and when I first heard this song. It’s crazy how much impact it has.
The best part of this song for me was hearing Kimbra for the first time.
she always delivers it so well!
This is the first time ever that I'm happy that the algorithm bring me many many many links related and specially this to see so many different scenes of them. It was a second time I see a video since the "official" one. And now this is an incredible higher emotion when I see her moving as well him and the group. Their body language is so powerful. She is so empowered. All together it's like a cake, all the perfect ingredients suddenly waking up all your deepest senses. Now I dream to see them on very big screen unless live. I'm thankful you shared. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Everything is good
That's what I'm waiting for
Unfortunately for me it was the end..
Brilliant. Kimbra's last glance priceless too😊
The place of someone who hopes it could still work out, I think.
i've noticed its always the sad songs wrapped in a happy exterior that really grab people's attention. its like sweet and salty, it's just so good
Kimbra - devastating here - the make-up, the hair, the voice - just perfect.😙
Kimbra really takes that short verse and makes it slap. Truely quality over quantity
I will never tire of hearing this song!
Big deal its Baa Baa Black Sheep, not very original...
@@alwaysright3718 bro you've literally done nothing with your life. one message and i can read you like a book. just sit down and remember not even being rich and famous would make you likeable. stop being jealous and look to bettering yourself. its just sad.

That was stunningly beautiful. Years later, it still breaks my heart. Reminds me of the past. Thank you.

Aw thats exactly when i got chills too
When this song first came out I really didn't get all the hype. Now listening it just hits different. What a great and unique song.
Same sentiment here. 😃👍
Likewise..
First came out by Sting?
@@iveo83 Thats exactly how the vocals sounded like ... Sting , untill you realise it was Gotye
My worse relationship to date and in college. It slapped.
This songs verses are so prolific that I started feeling like they were singing my feelings at the time, 10+ years ago. Just so good.
First time I've watched a performance of this song. It actually feels like a masterpiece of modern music.
Song will be a banger 100 years from now. Timeless!!
One of the greatest sample records in the last 20 years.
So happy that these performances are still so beautifully polished. Fantastic voices. Huge respect.
This song is just straight up mesmerizing, it’s like you hear it and your hypnotized.
This will always be one of the best songs of the 2010's. Such a shame Gotye hasn't release a new album in so long. He really is a profoundly great artist. Even if some of what he does is simple, it always portrays emotion in such a palpable way.
Sad that he doesn't like the song very much, so many poor copies.
Parte dessa música ele pegou de um artistas brasileiro e foi processado.
@@toddwilliams5905 Looks like he got overly caught up in that. Once a song becomes that big it's not really yours anymore
I have never heard of Kimbra before, but she absolutely crushes that verse and makes the song that much better. I also really love that when she comes in, she's looking at him, and he's looking away, and then when he starts to sing again, he looks to her but she turns away. Really makes the performance of the song that much better.
Good eye, I didn't catch that
@@waylonk2453 It's easily visible on the studio version of the clip. This one here was badly hurt by an erratic editing.
This collaboration is musical gold. Absolutely pure and perfect.
Listened to it on repeat at the time of its release and still gives me those same goosebumps now. A stone cold classic.
I didn't appreciate this song when it first came out, but all these years later I've realized that it is a good song.

Kimbra has such a wonderful voice. Everything about this song is fantastic. The instrument score is so unique.
One of the best records ever recorded. EVERYTHING about this recording BLEW ME AWAY when I first hear right until today!
This is a timeless song, amazing arrangements, lyrics, and voices. Simply stupendous.
I love Kimbra, she's so pretty too.
One of the best songs ever written and recorded. Absolute musical perfection.
I've always enjoyed their live shows, and how they project the singing to each other, even though they have no relationship other than professional.
She commits to the performance. Even the quick look towards Gotye at the end of the song feels like "you broke my heart and I hate you" instead of "yeah! Great Performance!"
My gosh! This still sounds great. Some really good things going on here. All the musicians did a fantastic job. Kimbra and Gotye still have those powerful voices.
I can’t figure out why it sounds so good. Is it the simple instrumental? The cutthroat lyrics? The vocal delivery of the two of them? Whatever it is, I’ll never tire of listening to it.
It NEVER gets old but the entire recording is brilliant
There is something very special about this song. Thank you.
The passion comes out once Kimbra joins in
Oh my. Just so beautiful. I loved this so much when it was first released and now this.
Mówta co chceta! Klasyk muzyki popularnej XXI wieku!!! Grats from Poland!
Still gives me goosebumps
Is it crazy to say this is one of the best songs of all time? Songs like this feel like they were unearthed from some heavenly vault that has always existed. Gotye just dug it up. Masterpiece.
kimbra really made the song, her verse is the best part of the whole thing it's crazy how talented she is
Man I freaking love this song and it never gets old it just keeps getting freaking better 😎👍
What a great vibe. Puts me in a mellow mood.
This song encapsulates my college years. This holds a lot of memories for me. Thank you for this gold!
Love this song! So happy they performed it live again! Its a classic!
Besides this being an iconic song, the delivery is so authentic. The pain is real.
Fantastic performance...understated in a spectacularly intense way...kimbra plays it and sings it perfectly as does gotye ❤❤❤❤
Always loved this song...very honest! This lady is a real beauty
The genius of this song, is it tells the story from both sides. Plus....the orchestration is so well thought out and executed, from the samples, to the use of the xylophone. And....they are both simply fantastic singers. One of the best pop songs ever.
Great arrangement- their voices so compatible. Great song
One of my all time favs!
great song Makes me fell happy and calm thanks
If you’re going to have one hit, this is a hell of a hit to have. Such an amazing song.
Thanks! It's a great song but it really comes to life when Kimbra sings.
Kimbra’s feature is my favourite part too! (to nobody’s surprise 😂)
Well Gotye wrote it for her to sing with him. It's also why they didn't do anything else - it's a unique song with a unique statement, which he only wanted to do with her. Inspired choice, as she is the perfect partner for it though. It's music art.
there's something innate damn magical aum aum beats 💪😁
