  • The weight of the Valve controllers sound bananas

    • Got my Quest 3 yesterday and yeah, the controllers are half the weight. I didn't know the knuckles were so heavy. Meta is probably going to allow 3rd party controllers, maybe someone will make knuckles for the Quest. Now I'd want them half the weight but besides that they are the most comfortable VR controllers.

  • The hardest thing i found was going from a janky claw grip on Q2 to having to hold the controller properly on the Q3.

    • recently i discovered that if i only hold the end of the q3 controllers (so i cannot reach any buttons) it feels much more natural and i can aim better. i still wrap its rope around my hand tho, so it doesnt fly off. so i recommend experimenting with how you hold the controllers.

  • I've only owned the Quest 2 and 3, but the improvements on the Quest 3 with the pancake lenses and higher resolution dual displays, as well as the content library and PCVR capabilities, meant there really wasn't any competition. The colour passthrough, standalone performance and wifi speed was just a bonus. Only negative I found was the smaller binocular overlap, which did drive me bananas for the first couple of weeks, but now I don't notice it. Mind you I never used the stock strap. I didn't find the strap that bad when I first got the Quest 2, so it took me a while to replace it. Grabbing the BoboVR Halo strap made it so much quicker, easier and more comfortable to get in/out of the Quest 2 that I never used the strap on the Quest 3 at all, just replaced it out of the box.

  • I think the easiest way for me to think about the Quest 3 isn’t if it’s the “best” XR headset; but instead, cost versus what it can do, it’s the most **versatile** headset. Banana

  • This is really good commentary and mirrors my feelings well. The Quest 3 for me is just so incredible I don't need any other headset right now.. it plays back 3D movies in full quality with the 4xvr app without even being connected to a PC, in mixed reality with hand tracking!! That feature alone makes it a must have, it's ridiculously futuristic and costs less than half of what I paid for a 3DTV 10 years ago.

  • I wondered why you don't use the Bigscreen Beyond. The light Quest controllers and the cable are good reasons. There's also the lack of built-in audio on the Beyond. The thing with the Quest is, it's not the best in any particular thing, but delivers as an overall package. Costing less than PCVR headsets ist a great point too.

  • Banana - I used to swear by my HTC Vive Pro's tracking being the best of the best. Cable never used to bother me neither, until I got to try a Quest 2 with Steam Link VR. I couldn't tell any difference in tracking accuracy, plus I had better optics and it was fully Wireless. Bought a Quest 2 on a discontinued promotion and have not touched the Vice Pro since. I never thought I'd be recommending something owned by Facebook, but overall it's better, even if I do still prefer the Vive's wand controllers.

  • I "rage-bought" the Valve Index when I thought I was having issues with tracking in Beat Saber with the Quest 2. It was, mostly, skill issue, turns out. I did try wireless with the Quest 2 with my PC, recently, and was actually impressed with how well it worked. It also seemed like the tracking was doing much better. I do prefer the wider field of view that the Index has. Everything you said at the end is the reason I'm sticking with my Index. I even bought a 3rd base station to help with tracking even more. Don't think it helped, but whatever.

  • Nice video Naysy im running the Quest 3 and I use link cable for Beat Saber so I don't have any lag spikes. But when im playing Gorilla Tag PCVR I use air link so I can turn around. And for some reason when I use air link in my room where my PC is air link lags and disconnects but when I use air link in my living room where my wifi router is it's so much better. idk but i thought that if the headset is closer to the PC then it's better but I was wrong.

  • Hi Naysy! Awesome video as usual.. Hope you see this! Wanted to ask you a question that's been bugging me for ages - what are your settings for getting Virtual Desktop to run Beat Saber with no (or very little) LAG. Mine lags like crazy to the point where it's almost unplayable, even the haptics lag 😭 Also a lot of frame drops... It runs OK with Steam Link, but still has a lot of frame drops. I have a 3080 so surely that's enough for smooth gameplay. Quest standalone version runs beautifully, but I would prefer to use PCVR for custom songs etc.

    @QiVR42@QiVR4228 күн бұрын
  • Tbh the Index controllers may feel even heavier because of their shape. There's a big difference between having all the weight inside the part that you're holding (Quest Pro, Quest 3) and having parts of that weight away from your hand (Index) as that weight will try to twist your hand and that's something else you need to counteract The Quest 2 conteollers aren't that bad because the external part goes over your thumb and it kinda balances itself out

  • So i spoke to a franchise owner at EBgames about the Valve Index. They told me that Ebgames was importing them with no partnership with valve. Valve flat out refuse to offer deals, so ebgames was buying fullprice with the benefit of franchised importing perks, to offer us the cheapest option. They told me ebgames would honor Australian warranty laws for it, but since they're importing, it'll take longer... they also laughed & mentioned they hope noone does cause it'll cost them more as a business too. Valve's actions against Australia from the long term it took to give us $aud in the digital store, to the lack of hardware sold here (vr , steamdeck , steam machines etc), i think Valve just don't want to sell to Australians or even like us enough to.

    @WcaVR@WcaVR28 күн бұрын
    • I've heard it's because the ACCC is very strict and were the ones that pushed Valve into their current Steam refund policy

      @ayyndrew@ayyndrew28 күн бұрын
    • @@ayyndrew i considered that too, but valve have a longer history with ripping off Australians. before they gave us AUD in the shop, they charged us in USD. but they charged more. they would take the aud RRP and just put it on the store as USD, no conversion of currency. basically as an example, when GTAV come out, they wanted $103 but the digital store at rockstar charged $79aud. Valve has been out for australia for a long time.

  • I bought the Quest 3 on launch day, after having the quest 2 for quite a while. Settin gup streams and getting the Quest 3 to work with Airlink sucked when it first came out, so I bought Virtual Desktop to help in streaming, but you can't pin windows with VD. I finally went back to airlink because they fixed it quite a bit. I did buy some great headphones to go along with the 3 and upgraded from the M2 to M3 strap with the conversion kit. Banana

  • Can confirm, have an Asus GT-AXE11000 now with Wifi 6e and the occasionally occurring lag is gone when I move my head faster around. Thought it is a bug but its not. Together with Virtual Desktop, its really nice and now I'm back to my old performance in Beat Saber. Couldn't beat my Rift S (cable) scores. Now its like a cable connection and using PC VR a lot more, because its just working and I can play where I have space and not attached to a 7m cable..

  • I have a Vive Pro 2 with the wireless adapter, and Index controllers. I like the Index controllers. The only real problem has been grip actuations. Because it has finger tracking, it sends a light touch of the grip as a "button pressed" signal to games, and most games assume you're using a controller where a grip activation requires a much more deliberate squeeze. This leads to a lot of false positives, which can be a real problem depending on the game. Fiddling with the bindings in SteamVR can sometimes reduce this effect, but usually not. I find wireless essential for any roomscale game. The wireless adapter *mostly* works, but it's really frustrating when I get a disconnect. I really want something that's more reliable, but don't want reduced resolution compared to the Pro 2, and I'm a bit skeptical of the tracking accuracy of the Quest when you don't have base stations.

  • But even with wifi 6e, don't you find the latency even with a decent router to be an issue with something like Beat Saber? I have a really good Asus wifi 6e router, and I'm using the wifi 6 channel exclusively for the quest 3, but it's still hit and miss on performance with fast paced games.

  • I can relate with the weight of the controllers, I can´t do some beat saber levels because my arms are so heavy at the end that i can´t lift them fast enough to hit the upper notes. But as I play beat saber to lose weight it´s a plus thing 🤪. Other problem is the grip in Index, I don´t know why but sometimes I can´t get the best grip with my left hand and the movement becomes awkard in the faster songs.

I don't know if you will be able to get it in your country but it is a direct upgrade to the Valve Index in every way and for only $699. Its PCVR only so no messing with the quest 3 setup nonsense. It has the highest resolution of any consumer VR headset on the market. It has aspheric glass lenses that completely remove the godrays and distortion found in all other headsets. Its FOV and refresh rate are also similar to the Index. You can also chose to use lighthouse tracking with Index controllers or the inside out tracking built into the headset with Oculus style controllers. It truly does it all while only being a little more expensive that a Quest 3.

I'm waiting for the new valve index 2 come out to upgrade. I would never use facebook no privacy VR anyways.

In that time, I have rarely ever used my quest 2. I think that now better applications are out for PCVR on the quest such as Steam Link, I might reconsider my choices. I am not getting another wireless headset until the Valve Deckard releases though. That will always be my first option.

  • Wired pcvr headsets are perfect for us folks into driving or flight sims! Pretty much all the wired headsets get released and marketed to us sim folks because we need DisplayPort and generally our rigs are expensive and we have the money to buy the expensive wired headsets. For sim racing I only use DisplayPort headsets and when I play games like Alyx Vertigo 2 etc I use quest 3 and virtual desktop. Quest is really bad for simulation games but it’s great for non simulation games.

I have some straps coming for them today, I have to have them attached to my hands like the Valve knuckles. I wonder if the Deckard will have controllers at all, they will probably be as good as Apple with hand tracking. Meta can't get it right though, maybe Apple is just magical.

  • There is a big but. Even to get the real resolution that the quest 2 has you need atleast a 3090. Ro get the max out of the quest 3 with pc you even need a more beefy gpu. The controller won't track behind the back. Example synth riders some players like to hit some placed orbs behind the back and that's impossible on the quest. Personally I want to go to the Index instead of a quest 3. If the quest had a display port that it would be easy. Have you ever tryed the 559dollar costing dpvr e4 that has a display port

  • I would love to have the lighter controllers of the Q3 for Beat Saber, but although I do own a Q2, I don't use it much and never for Beat Saber. I absolutely loathe Zuckerberg (though I change the first letter of his name to an F....) and don't like using the Quest for that reason. I use BSLegacy Launcher for Beat Saber, which works with my Steam version of Beat Saber but I don't think it works for Quest (have to look into that again). I know there are other mod setups like SideQuest for the Quest, but last time I tried to access some special feature on my Quest by setting myself up as a "developer," it caused all sorts of problems and I really don't want to go down that route again. Maybe I'll take a look at Quest Link again and see if that might work. I have all my custom songs saved on my PC and don't want to have to pay for extra storage on a Quest 3 just to store them there. My trusty Index is still holding up pretty well after four years (though the tracking seems to glitch sometimes :/ ) as I try to patiently wait for the next Index release...........

  • banana , I sure hope Steam makes a better one than the Quest 3 but yes i like it. wish it had the pro's eye tracking and had a external senser to help with tracking of controllers and Full Body Trackers. they say there going to let you use a webcam set up for the quest 3 for body tracking, but have not seen it yet.

  • HTC vive XR elite has entered the room😂. All the praise you gave it and many other content creators..now seems to be a figment of everyone's imagination. Maybe amnesia?

    • I dunno if i praised it lol. Since the Quest 3 came out, it's hard to justify the XR Elite

  • So I have the knuckles. Those seem to keep up with faster songs like Ghost and Final Boss chan. When ever I use the Quest 3 controllers it cant keep up with the game. My arms are moving but the sabers either jump to another spot a second later, or just disapears for a second. The Quest pro controllers can almost keep up with the knuckles. Also I am using the Vive Pro 2 and it feels faster than the Index.

  • This video was a delicious banana. I've been wondering when the Valve Index was going to start showing its age and I guess that time is upon us. I know as soon as I got my Quest 3, my Quest 2 went in the bargain bin. Translation: I gave it to my wife. I love the Quest 3 a lot more than then its predecessor and I've been playing more VR games than ever before. It's a really tough package to beat right now.

  • It's the logical choice. if you want to be relatable to most amount of people you gotta to use the same gear as them. Quast 3 is just the most popular owing to price/performance.

  • v64 fixed the "external mic" issue and v65 is already in PTC about to come out soon so I think a lot of the "Reasons why I don't like the Quest 3" will most likely go away very soon.

    • I have a Bobovr S3 pro and 2 of the magnetic b100 batteries (it comes with one). I have infinite uptime with it. When I hear the beep and know the battery is low I can plop out that battery and plop on the new one magnetically without taking off the headset in 5 seconds. Right now I plug the dead one into my old phone charger which is 65 watts but has a bunch of different voltages and amps to fast charge with. They released a battery dock for the b100 batteries recently and I should have it soon. The dock can hold and charge 3 batteries at 30 watts each but you need a 100 watt charger for that... Purchased separately. Blah blah, battery issue solved.
