Those that hate him will most likely be upset to know Obama was saying these things behind closed doors when nobody could hear. Those that love him will hate to know he wasn't saying anything new and just upset a lot of people saying it so publicly. It took Russia to invade Ukraine to change European attitudes to Russia.

The fashy goon next to him, Pompeo, was surely whispering this into his ear prior to the meeting. Trump WAS right on NAFTA and the TPP. He could have reigned in the US's global trade policies that hurt domestic labor and business. But he didn't. His own businesses require cheap labor. Instead he droned on about all of "America's enemies" to stir up the usual fear and paranoia Republicans peddle. He had a chance to be a moderate outsider in DC. He ended up being a cartoon who couldn't get out of his own way. He said the same thing 17 times in 4 minutes! hahaha

    • Not at all. He looks like it some of the time, but if you start listening at 4:35, not only does he start exaggerating the nature of the issue, but he also disregards the economic fluidity of world energy needs. He attempted to use this as a wedge issue, but if you are paying even closer attention, you can see that the argument is off and that this timing is about where he loses the opportunity to make a real difference on the world stage. He was not able to seal the deal, either - the “art of the deal” was not a success in this event - that is what really happened. Here Trump, as in many other instances, was not able to effect the change he sought. Why? He did not understand the European Union nor Europe well enough to work together with them to alter the direction of such a pipeline. Trump’s calculus here is to publicly embarrass and strong arm the EU into changing their policy, that is easy to see, maybe it is too sophisticated to envision how a successful deal made - I will point to one: Germany ended the deal with Russia because Biden is much smarter and much more capable. I know you didn’t want to read that Trump didn’t get what he wanted for the US, but ultimately he was responsible as president for closing the deal. Excuses, excuses.

Also, he didn't suggest an alternative for Europe energy demands. He simply kept repeating that we need to invest more in military...and I guess more in research for other energy sources? and where would we get the money? Not all European countries are as rich as Germany. I still believe that involving economically a country is a road to peace and prosperity. It worked in many cases throughout history and that has been the policy of the EU till 3 weeks ago, which led a continent devastated by two world wars to became a soft superpower.

Everybody knows Biden is done after this term because he’s not going to run again at the age of 83. So if the Dems choose someone like Harris or Warren (very progressive and controversial candidates), who are also not likeable (Biden was likeable which is a main reason why he “won” the election), then Trump could have potential to come back on top.
