    • Hey subscribed to all. Thank You for the videos. Since watching your channel and watching Kim's flight training its really furthered my understanding of aviation. I listen and watch FlightAware and adsbexchange of my local KPIA daily and understand. (my neighbors think the audio feed was nuts) LOL (apartment building) I live next to two hospitals with in 100 yards of heliport and get to watch alot. Also with ANG and regional carriers at KPIA get to see a lot, and worked 4 years literally ten feet from KPIA Runway fence so I got to see thousands of landings and takeoffs and a 50,000 vertical from an F35? Follow their daily commutes to Florida , Chicago and Houston and lifeflights. Watching the this video I completely understood the two planes in the pattern? Touch n Goes? And first time Ever!!!! spotted both planes. thanks for including the footage Liked Kim's new Oxygen. That's cool what's the brand? Also my stomach got queasy watching the landing speed too. So used to your landings. But that was cool for both KIm as a new pilot and for viewers that you explained you picked up a tail wind. This channel is teaching me alot. Thank you Love you guys stay safe!

  • I thought Kim had a paramotor shirt on! NOPE - jellyfish ... 🤣 I've had lots of customers come to me with horror stories from other shops in the auto repair and small engine biz. There are varying abilities in every field, along with varying ethics and morals. Pays to shop around! I've been doing that 14 years, but now in '23 I believe it's time for a change. Just put an application in for a maintenance position at a company in the city. Back to the real world of commutes and traffic! Will be nice to have retirement, though - I don't seem to be getting any younger here! Anyway, great stuff as always Kris & Kim. Hope you both, and your families have a Happy, Healthy, Blessed, and Prosperous New Year. 🍻

  • @BARONPILOT - I'm based at KDTS - here's a hint when you want to fly through Tyndall and Eglin airspace, always file HEVVN if coming from SoFLA or then "The Gates" as the air force ATC refers to them -> PHIPS and VARRE. They will almost always let you through if you follow that flight plan. Alternately if coming from StAug file DEFUN CEW PENSI which is the Corridor they like you to fly if you stay north.

  • Absolutely Correct on work that is not Necessary on an annual. I/we always did Owner Assisted Annuals. A Friend with a 1953 C-170 New his plane Inside & out. Latterly took us less than 2 hours to Unbutton the plane Seats out and Cowl off & every Inspection panel open. The AI would show up Inspect, Air Frame then Engine. That way we could be Buttoning up while he's doing the Compression and Engine Inspection.

  • All great criteria for select a mechanic/shop. I would add getting the job done in a timely manner. Nothing worse than continued delays with some scheduling or simple issue that didn't really seem like it should have happened. It does take awhile to get comfortable with a shop that you can trust to do the work you need and done right for a fair price.

  • I think it’s a good idea to take one’s plane to the best possible place for an annual. You’ve got to be able to trust the guys working on your plane. Last year (or was it 2 years ago, now?), when Kevin took 1BC to Defiance, OH, because that’s where TAS Aviation is, turned out to be one of the smartest decisions ever.

  • For the first time in 6 years we are taking our Comanche to a shop for its annual. Reason being we are due for the 1000 hour gear AD and we want to get the Aussie Stab horn installed so as to do away with the AD that goes along with the stab horn we currently have installed. Gonna fly approximately 420nm to Heritage Aero as they specialize in Comanche maintenance and have a very good reputation. In addition I'd just like to get some different eyes on our bird to make sure I'm not missing something. I can tell you as an A&P that the most important thing for any mechanic is to know what you don't know. I realize this may not make sense for a lot of folks but it is oh so important.

  • I use to work at company that provided maintenance and flight training for a major Japanese airline in Napa,Ca. and they operated A36 58 Barons so we had extensive experience on both, so after they closed I went to work at another FBO on the field, one day a New G58 took off and swallowed a valve off point Reyes, after checking it out we gave word to the owner who approved the work so we worked out all of the warranty with Beechcraft and Continental and after a little intervening of the owner it from a cylinder replacement to a six new cylinders, in the meantime the owner asked to do an annual during which we found so much that the his shop had done wrong like servicing the props with Mobil 28 and not aeroshell grease (the prop shop said both props needed overhauling), they replaced both emergency exit seal and glued Both sides of the seal where the you could Not open them! Everything we found I'd take pictures and email them followed by a call, long story short (and I mean a long story indeed) their bill ended up a over $33,500, but i kept them informed on everything! So they're out of Socal but they'd bring their Baron from the to Napa,Ca and airline home, I told them when they fly I want them thinking about their flying and their business and Not the airplane!! They were the best!

  • After disaster annuals by crappy shops and mechanics, I’d fly or in my case truck our birds (🚁) to a good shop/mechanic if needed. Expense is one thing, but the souls in our aircraft are priceless. I’m not dumping on a shop or mechanic in general, but like you said, they may not be an expert in your model/brand.⚔️❤️🇺🇸

  • I understand completely. I fly my 310 447 nm for its annual. Factoring in the expenses to get to and from the small airport, it's still worth it (I think!) What do you have to do to get to/from KCQF? Air carrier in and out of KMOB?
