  • You guys should try to plant some native flowers/plants/grasses! It also would be beneficial to plant some butterfly attractors, like milkweed, or others native to your area. Amazing job so far!

  • Your deer/coyote footage reminds me of the unexpected results of reintroducing wolves to Yellowstone. They found that the riparian corridors started to grow back much faster than the population decline in the grazers would have predicted. After some study, they realized that the deer and elk would just graze without a threat, but if wolves were merely in the area they would spend a considerable amount of time with their heads up, watching the wolves, and not eating. This gave the brush and grasses a chance to grow and put on the toughened shoots and branches that grazers don't like.

    • That's because the Gray Wolf is a Keystone Species. Without predation, another critical Keystone Species, beavers, habitat was eaten and trampled by undulates. So the loss of TWO Keystone Species changed the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem in ways that it could no longer support many of the other native species to the area.

      @Wildrosesmyl@Wildrosesmyl Жыл бұрын
    • I am surprised they were surprised by this. The ecosystem needs top predators. If they aren't any, then the animals will just eat all the bushes and grass... An ecosystem is balanced and needs all animals.

      @julietvrphotography@julietvrphotography Жыл бұрын
    • @Juliet Van Rensburg the surprise was the degree to which the browsing was affected. They had predicted that browsing would be reduced proportionally with the reduction of herbivore population. They found that individual surviving herbivores ate significantly less than than they would have without the presence of wolves. It was an important finding, because one of the arguments against reintroduction of wolves was to point out that they wouldn't really eat that many deer and elk and would, therefore have little effect on the health of the riparian corridors.

  • I’m in the UK. A year ago, I built a small pond 2.3 x 3m. In my garden. I was staggered at the amount of wildlife that visited the pond. Imo, THE best way to attract wildlife is to provide a water source. The pond is a wildlife pond with no fish as I only wanted to attract insects and amphibians. However much more was attracted. I live in a medium size town in Hertfordshire UK. Great video btw.

    • @formicapple2 I agree, im out in Southern California where they complain about drought every year but if everyone dug a small pond it would be a huge resource just as back up water for plants and animals. In India they are doing tons of permaculture water projects to reverse desertification and ponds are one of the most common. Every year when we get crazy rains I just watch all that fresh water flow out to the ocean from where I live near the port, its disgusting how much just flows right out. Our modern society isnt conditioned to think about conservation and natural balance, especially if you live in a city or urban environment.

  • The fact that all 10 baby ducks survived to maturity is a testament to the great pond you’ve built. They had enough resources to live and grow and do so safely. Great work! I wish more people took this same approach instead of always pushing wildlife to the edge with nowhere to survive. Does have the ability to self abort if the area becomes hostile, dangerous, or resources become scarce. As an act of self preservation, they self abort until next mating season. Having 3 fawns mean resources exceeded plentiful and the environment was as good as it gets if she birthed 3 babies.

    • @@al-aeynani yes that's true but there is so much land all over America and the world that isn't being utilized for anything. Imagine if governments actually spent their money building ponds, reservoirs and grew forest? Instead of patting themselves on the back for giving EV tax credits which ironically pollutes the planet more because building more anything usually pollutes the planet. This pond build is clear evidence that building something natural and self sustaining is far more valuable for people and wildlife. Planting a tree at your home and growing your own food if you have a backyard is good enough.

You can collect wild seeds or see if your county has seed workshops or other enthusiasts that could help you out with this and keep the costs down. If you have the budget- look into creating a snake hibernaculum as well. Great work, very interesting to see all these animal clips. Cheers

Sod is a quick fix but mowed grass roots doesn't grow very long because they spend so much of their energy regrowing the leaves instead of making the roots longer. Plants by the waters edge will benefit from the added phosphates

I can't understand why our local governments aren't expected to reinstate or to create new planting and water source areas. I would like to think that neighboring properties in your area are following suit at least ..well done🎉🎉

  • It's so wholesome when 'unexpected' guests come and you don't try to chase them away because they damage the crops 🥺 If you think about it, it is very human-centric to consider some animals pests. And seeing you willing to give part of your land back to the animals warms my heart.

A Swamp we could not use dug out to get 2 waterponds and get some dry land. 2 hectares. 3 machines 6 weeks digging. Now we have clean Water to swim, Cayman, Anaconda, Capibara, Monkeys have come, flocks of parrots, colibris, birdlive, Fish, We planted 3 Kankantrie Trees. The biggest Trees in Suriname. They Grow 70 meters High. Thank you for this video.

  • One update I think would be helpful for those birds living on those tall posts you built for them, is to cover the bottom of them with pvc tubes, so that cats can't climb up on them and loot their nests.

  • The content of this channel is therapeutic. The outdoor aquarium and zoo, full moon time lapses, croaking frogs and George Jones are my favorites. I imagine since the environment is resource abundant, none of the animals are put into hyper survival mode and this is why they get along so well. As if I’m watching a balanced, living utopia, nothing synthetic, just a rearrangement of existing materials. Thank you for sharing!
