You did what to Brazil
hwhat 🤠
😅😂
beat me to it
here before this comment goes viral
🤨
"abraço da morte" that means "embrace of death" is a phenomenon that happens between two plants: one serves as a host and the other one as a guest. The guest needs to develop attaching itself to the host's stem, it allows to emit roots, which will serve as support. According to guest's growth, it compromises the life of the host killing it by strangulation caused by the growth of guest's roots around the stem. The embrace of death is a phenomenon that occurs commonly with Apuizeiro plants (Cecropiaceae) and happens when birds defecate its seeds, they settle and germinate in the bark of trees. Thank you for visiting, we hope you had fun and see you soon! Greetings from Brazil
thank you for explaining!
Everytime i go driving around Japan, this is exactly what i see all over the country. One of their prettiest flowers grow on a vine they call Fuji, the wisteria, and so much of it has been choking out entire forests. All parts of the plant are also toxic from a chemical called wisterin. So while they have cultivated wisteria vines growing on metal brackets for viewing and the bunches of flowers are gorgeous, in the wild, wisteria is causing a TON of tree deaths and they can't do anything about it because it's literally named the same thing as their holy mountain. Apparently like another Chinese/Japanese import kudzu, they're becoming a huge problem in the SE United States as well as an invasive species, but the edible Kudzu could be taken care of if the US employs more herds of weedmowing goats. *Wisteria in Chinese is directly translated as "purple vine flower" 紫藤花, but they can be several shades of purple, but also white and pale yellow/green. Their vines can also grow to around 15cm(5.9") diameter.
@@BenjiSun It's also used to fight demons!
thats some supervillan shit no cap
that's so cool! is that what the orchids do too?
Common misconception. Orchids aren’t parasitic as they don’t take nutrients from the host plant. But they are epiphytic meaning they attach to trees and rocks and take in the nutrients from insect/bird poop and bark/leaf debris in the water that runs off the host.
In addition they form a symbiotic relationship with the tree and the fungi and other microlife that the host has sharing resources

Isso aqui foi doideira!
i have to say, i really enjoy this style of vlogs with the voice overs
yea you get consistent audible volume and the vlogger gets to commentate on stuff which they might not be able to do during the actual recording. the editor is also having fun with the annotations! this style of vlogging probably also takes more effort since maya has to dub over the clips herself.
"I've been wanting to buy a hairpin, but I didn't want to get one off amazon"-Maya, showing off a hairpin she bought while in the Amazon
the "hug of death" at 8:29 refers to when a parasitic plant laces itself around a host plant's trunk until it (the parasitic one) develops roots, killing its host (this is an oversimplification because I'm not a bottanist, I'm just translating). If you google INPA Abraço da Morte there are some pictures and articles about it (in portuguese)
Wanted to learn about parasitic plants, instead it kept showing me a heartbreaking story about a burning windmill in the Netherlands 😢
I love the voice overs, its a mystery for both of us of where we are going!
Brazilian dessert pizza IS a thing, there is no mozzarella in the chocolate one though. We do use some cheese for a particular guava paste flavor, called "Romeo and Juliet", it's *good.* Anyway, if you really want to try Brazilian pizza, you'd have to go to Brazil again and go to São Paulo, because in terms of Italian descendents, São Paulo is just like New York, so the pizza game there is on another level. The sushi game ALSO is great here, although that's a bit of a new thing (biggest japanese population outside of Japan baby!). Anyway, if it ever interests you, you should go to Brazil again to do some videos on some of the other biomes we have. Caatinga, Mata Atlântica, Pantanal, Cerrado... It's a lot of diverse life, these places are also documented way less often compared to the Amazon to foreigners so it'd almost be an exclusive scoop!
I love how the summary of this content is: Come to Brazil! 😂 I think i will one day visit Brazil too. You seem like suuuuch great people and i'd love to see Brazil
Ai meu deus um paulista
Don't come to Sao Paulo pelo amor de deus tem gente demais aqui

I love how maya warned me about the graphic content of a wasp eating a moth after I've been staring at it for a solid 5 seconds.
Haha, right? 😂
as a brazilian myself, I really enjoyed in how you got into details about pretty much everything related to people’s cultures, lifestyles, local flora and fauna, between a bunch. I appreciate vlogs in this style a lot. hope you make more videos like this aswell as I hope your editor also keeps adding a lot of funny twists to it. awesomez :)
I love how excited Maya gets about bugs in a platform that most people(in my opinion) don’t like and are afraid of
i get excited whenever i see an ant stealing some crumbs from my peanubutrer sanmwich
Im skittish around bees and wasp because i got stung once by accident since i was sitting down on a floor and accidently put my hand on a dead bee and got stung by it
@@coffee_2234 you stung yourself on a dead bee's corpse and now you blame bees? crazy
Ik it weird i don't know why i started having apiphobia when a bee didn't stung me i just started having intense fear of bee and wasp after that @@irishguyfromireland215
@@irishguyfromireland215also i was a kid when that happened i did not know that a bee can still sting after it death but i also didn't know there was a dead bee next to me i was distracted cause i was doing exercise and was tired and sat down put my palm to the sides and got stung by it
I could relate so hard every time you freaked out bc an animal is so pretty or majestic- the people around me always look down on me for saying how cute fish or insects are bc they freak them out... but they ARE cute. And Im not gonna stop praising them for keeping our world going!
wait why would anyone look down on an animal appreciator wtf ima look down on them instead, they sound like ignoramuses >.
@@alveolate idkw but some people might treat you like a child bc of it 🙃 pretty wild attitude
@@barbaravs1814 "ohh yes im an adult i have no emotions hargh hargh"
The desert pizzas are actually a big thing in brazil, you will find them in every pizza shop with various different flavours. HOWEVER there is a huge debate regarding if cheese should be put in it or not. Some places do, some places don't. I personally dont like it but some people love it
I'm from Sao Paulo and would be horrified to find out my dessert pizza had cheese in it
@@otvmonteiro1743 yea im from São Paulo too and cheese + chocolate is the most disgusting thing in the world to me but some people like it so idk
cheese and chocolate is just so gross!! serio n entendo pq as pessoas acham que precisa de queijo numa pizza doce
@@mieloblasto em todas as pizzarias que pedi pizza doce, nenhuma veio queijo, isso é algo de pouco tempo pra cá? nem faz sentido fazer, é igual meter sal e carne num açaí com nutella e morangos
8:30 'abraço' means hug and 'morte' means death, so it literally means hug of death. Searching around the internet it seems to be a term for when a plant grows its roots around another plant, effectively starving and strangling them in a "hug of death"
As a brazillian these vlogs got me excited like you have no idea
I don't think orchids are parasitic, but most _are_ epiphytes. They grow on other plants, but don't steal nutrients like mistletoe, for example.
omg maya higa maya miga uploaded another brazil vlog!! shes such a cool and awsome and chill professional influencer!!
WHO ELSE CAME FROM THE PROP TREE LIVE?? also maya you are such a cool human the conservation work you do is so dope we really need more humans like yourself 🙌
Volte sempreee miga
I love that you have no idea what's happening during the voice overs, it engages me more than normal because im not getting spoonfed whats happening lmao
Loving the Brazil content, and your "unique style of voiceover"! It's much like when I look at upcoming dates in my calendar and see that past me has(helpfully) written "12 O'CLOCK!!!" No clue what she was on about but we're all here to find out☺️
the voiceovers are hilarious, so was you not filming the empty elevator 10/10
If you get a chance to come to Colorado you should check out The Butterfly Pavilion. It's small and modest, but what they do with the space is awesome. And if you get yourself a tour in the back; you wouldn't be disappointed with some of the kindest and most knowledgeable entomologists, as well as every species you could imagine. Grew up next to the area, and when I was young. If it was a cold winter day in Colorado, I'd walk over there with a book and read on a bench inside the pavilion. Little slice of humid butterfly heaven in this cold desert. insect conservation at its finest.
14:35 cat slanders WILL mald (cat is adorable and sweet)
It is so amazing seeing you show us so many AMAZING insects that haven't even been LABELLED. AND THE FRKN CAIMAN WAS ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. I can't wait to see more of these videos!!!
I like this style of vlogging with the voice over. It gives the feeling that you’re watching it for the time like us 😂
thanks for taking me along in this video maya , i had an awesome time very cool adventure
I'm loving these type of vlogs with your voiceovers. I love how enthusiastic you are remembering what happened when a new clip suddenly show up. Keep up the great work!
Nah the voice overs are awesome because you get to relive the moment again while explaining it. You’re doing great keep it up
Your voice over is GOAT I dig it and I love the animals you see there.
This was amazing! Great editing too! Thanks Maya and team
YES I love this type of voice over vlog style. c: So happy for the Brazil Vlogs!
VO are great. It's like you're re-discovering the footage along with us!
We have green collared parakeets in cologne, Germany, its so cool to see them! Almost all our native birds are muted colours, grey, black etc but some 50 years ago some pet parakeets were released by someone or broke free and now theres about 2000 parakeets swooshing through the city in a big green swarm or individually, its so cool to see :) (Though dont just buy exotic pets and release them because you cant take care, thats bad!)
I am SOOOOOO excited for the video next week! I’m so glad you got to go on this trip I hope you have more opportunities to educate and travel in the future!! These videos are so fun!
dessert pizzas are definitely a thing in Brazil. I usually have them with no cheese, though
I love this style of voice overs lol it's fun listening to you get excited over something all over again!
learned a lot! Piqued my interest to visit Brazil someday! thanks for sharing these :)
Cant wait for the rest of the brazil footage, good video
Voice overs are great, I really love them!
I love that the staff got all these super cool, handcrafted wood sculptures of animals native to the amazon, and Connor just got a slide whistle, but we know from future videos how much he loves it! haha
Thanks for sharing with us maya . Love your excitement for the bugs lol
That was really cool! I watched the whole thing. Im not so into bugs personally, but some of them are quite beautiful. Looking forward to seeing more soon.
7:12 it so weird how many undiscovered species exsist with in a rainforest and how dense it can really be that we still finding unknown creatures with in the earth and deep-sea
I love your enthusiasm for bugs so much. So many are so amazing and they are so important.
Love the voiceover. We get to here you get excited revisiting your trip
The voiceovers were great! Awesome hearing you get excited about stuff again as you realize what was going on
Thanks you for this video series! I Enjoy it so much, you saw so much beautiful and cool stuff! Cant wait for the rest of the brazil vids!
i love this style of vlog. its so fun hearing u rediscover wtf u filmed xD
Excellent video, I was in the mood to relax and enjoyed myself. Also the narration style keeps it light I think 👍
rly loving the voice over brazil vlogs. so many cool creatures!!
Finally. I wanted to see this. All the best to you, Maya.🙌
I love these videos so much, can’t wait to see the others!!
These vlogs are so fun to watch!! I like your voice overs a lot too 🫶🏻
I love the style of it being edited before the voice overs so you are remembering the trip while showing us. Such a cool style it's my favorite
I literally just followed u today, and i was crying watching this vlog, it makes me so happy to see someone outside of brazil going there e being so respectful and happy to be there, thats actually makes my day !! so thank u for loving my country so much
Great content, love the voice over. Excited for the next one!
You’ve become such an inspiration to me. I’ll be finding a way to support you and alveus because wow. If I could plan my dream life, I’d be going to Brazil to help educate and preserve these beautiful species. YOU ARE AMAZING and your animals and staff and team is amazing. Thanks for sharing. (I’ll be obsessively watching all your content now. See you at the next PO unboxing video :)
The voiceovers 👌 and the content, lovely. Great job Mya. 🫠
I love voice over maya! It's always fun hearing the unedited excitement (especially in the comfort of your own recording space, since it does get awkward vlogging) Keep up the good work!
The food u mentioned in the vídeo, it's called pastel, one of the most iconic Brazilian dishes. I can't be anything but happy to see that u got the full Brazilian experience with cheese in the chocolate pizza 😝. These vlogs were amazing, can't wait for the rest of the videos, and be more then welcome to come back to our country! Theres a lot of amazing things regarding forests and eco system's, like the place withe the greatest bio diversity in the world, the atlantic forests, and so much!
This was so much fun just to _watch,_ I can't imagine how excited you were!! Congratulations! Thanks for sharing this experience. I hope to visit Brazil some day, and I'd love to go to some of these places as well. Edit: How did I miss the FOSSILS?? If you have more footage of the bones and fossils would you consider uploading it? I wanna see more 😭
I was about to write about my arachnophobia, and how every time I see one on even film it freaks me out, I get goosebumps and itchy sensations from anxiety. It was really nice to include a time stamp. Even more of a reason to support Maya and her team. Ps. I don’t hate spiders, just have an irrational fear of them.
I enjoy the voice over and the editing is really fun Great vlog 👍🏻
voiceover vlogs heck yessssss! wicked sick
Hey Maya, just wanted to say how incredible your Brazil Vlog was! Your dedication to capturing the essence of the local community and the breathtaking nature around you is truly inspiring. Keep up the amazing work, you're making a real impact with your content!
this video and the last video have been so amazing to see all of the different plant and animal species in brazil and it really makes me want to visit and see all of this amazing wildlife for myself!!! Another banger video Maya as always
damn i love when people express joy of how cool nature is. i love garret the guy that posts his time in the florida everglades and amazon, it makes brain go :) seeing so many critters
shoutout to whoever edits these, flawless work. Also this vlogs filming, nuance, structure and feel make it a masterpiece. Emmersive, funny and entertaining. Reminds me that videos with millions in production don't make up for genuine story and humor. :)
I'm loving the voice overs
These vlogs are the bessssst thanks for sharing. Would absolutely not hate a video of all that rainforest asmr holy shid
Love the editing ❤
living in a community like this is so beautiful.... its the way id love to live
The spider warnings were so clutch, amazing, fantastic even. ty based god
I am so glad you enjoyed my country. Cheers! Nature is awesome!
Maya drinking brahma was not something I expected to ever see in a video, hahahahahha, I'm glad you enjoyed your stay in Brazil. We have other very interesting and biodiverse biomes here, like the "pantanal" (a very large flooded biome) and "mata atlântica" (a tropical forest), as well as "caatinga" and "cerrado" (savana-like biomes), and "pampas" (grasslands). I'm from Rio, so a little biased, but here we have a very large tropical forrest (Tijuca Forest) in the middle of the city with very nice trails. It's really good to show the difference between the concrete jungle and nature, especially in terms of temperture and air quality.
Nice video, great editing as always and entertaining voice over
I love the voice overs 😂 please never change Maya
these voiceover videos are hilarious, Maya's shock and confusion to her own filming is so funny i found this DAWGdawg issa cute one
Sooo nice to see you get so excited about insects :)) when I visited manaus I also went crazy seeing the collection on MUSA! (I work with insects) It's so cool seeing a non-brazillian loving manaus as much as I did ❤ Really liked the video btw
i love this kind of vlog style, makes me feel like Maya’s lil homie getting the scoop post-vacation on all the cool shit she saw hell yeag
OMG, this was soo cool!! Thank you Maya for taking us along♥
0:30 just 30 seconds in and the community reminds me of the community my sister lives in with her family in Costa Rica. I LOVE these communities because it truly takes a village and these people are utilizing theirs for great things!
love the voice overs tbh
So happy you got to go to one of your dream places!! Hope you get to visit Australia next for videos with the Irwin family!!
I'm so appreciative of Lud and QT for introducing you to me your vlogs are content are so entertaining and you're love of living things is infectious
The Wild Adventures of Maya Higa
That gift shop looks AMAZING! :o
I love the voiceovers and thank you for the arachnophobia warnings!
Good vlog cant wait for the video on the Amazon
Your Vlog voice-over feel really honest, the stumbles and bit "ah yes this part! i remembere this part!" is quite refreshing from the "too much scripted voice-over" vlog that hapend on YT. Nice job Maya, also... OH MY GOD... my jaw dropped at the entomology dream collection.
loved this video so so much!
I love that you have no idea what's going on in your own vlog when you do the voice overs and do no prep or prewatch. lmao!!! so funny.
Love the voice overs!
Your commentary is what makes these vlogs great😂😂😂
Thanks for the footage Maya.
Thank you for the video
11:50 this reminds me of that one part in final fantasy 7.
It is really interesting to see my country from an outsider's' eyes. You look so happy and curious about everything, super fun and cool 😆. Also, the Animal Crossing soundtrack soothes so well.
