  • Hey Larry- Electrical Engineer here. How much power you're going to be able to pull from the trucks120V outlet is going to be limited to the trucks OCPD (over current protection device). Your typical household outlet will be connected to a 15A breaker or sometimes a 20A breaker. A caveat here is most circuit breakers of this size have two tripping modes: *Instantaneous* and *Long Time.* Instantaneous is meant to protect the wire when the circuit is immediately overloaded of faulted condition- You plug in a 30A load into a 15A circuit, or maybe the circuit is shorted. The breaker will trip immediately. The *Long Time* trip is meant to protect the circuit from overload over a period of time and is typically 80% of the maximum rating. So, if you plug in a Kranzle pressure washer into a 15A circuit and it pulls 14A, the breaker will eventually trip to prevent damage to the wire because 15A*0.80 = 12A. You can run a 12A load indefinitely, anything above that will eventually trip the breaker. Same is true for 20A circuit breakers. This is for continuous loads. A continuous load is defined by NEC (Electrical Code) as a load that operates longer than 3 Hours. An electrical pressure washer is not a continuous load because of the nature of the use case for it, it will turn on for 2-3 minutes and then shut off as you clean the car. This is why 20A dedicated circuits are rarely an issue. The Ford's outlet tripped immediately and did not let you use the pressure washer which means it was tripped instantaneously- meaning the pressure washer overloaded it by a factor much greater than its typical rating. What's interesting is, according to Ford the outlets can provide up to 7.2KW of power or 60A, but what is not stated is how each outlet is protected, I suspect they are limited to 15A each. Which is why your AR Blue tripped the circuit. AR recommends a minimum of 20A and when Obsessed Garage tested the pressure washer, the running ampacity was around 15-17A. Remember, a 15A circuit can run up to 12A continuously, above that it will trip eventually. Furthermore, 240V outlets are generally regarded as safer as they can deliver more power with less current. This is because Power = Current x Voltage x powerfactor (we'll ignore power factor for this exmaple though). Hope this helps!

    • Also an electrical engineer and Ford Lightning owner here; each of the Ford Lightning 110v Outlets are rated for 20 amps. However, what is trippin isn't an old-school physical breaker, instead, the actual inverter is monitoring current and shutting down on its own (soft overload). The motors used on appliances like electric pressure washers have a massive inrush current and considering they switch on and off constantly due to how they're designed, you're bound to exceed 20 amps constantly. I know the Ford Lightning gives you some time to exceed the rated output I don't know how long that window is I think it's designed around air compressors that switch on and off not nearly as frequently as the pressure washer. Three workarounds I would suggest, One, try to be more intentional with pressing the trigger on your pressure washer(I learned this when I was constantly throwing a breaker at my house I regularly to feather the trigger on and off making my motor switch on and off more often than it needed to, instead I should hold down the trigger and very the distance to get all the control I need). Two, in practice, due to how the outlets are wired, I think you can pull more current out of the outlets in the trunk and truck bed than the ones in the cab even though they're rated for the same 20 amps.( however, if you close the trunk I think the front Outlets are limited to 400W) Last, there's the obvious, it will probably work fine if you use the 30 amp outlet and an adapter. You probably have one of the adapters lying around. If you have an RV, or ever bought a generator, it's the same connector.

I love off-road as much as anyone else and I also love my Ram Rebel being as clean as possible...after a weekend of off-road. But, testing those capabilities may possibly sway a mobile detailer to go that route with a beautiful and capable truck. Pretty badass!

  • From what I can see online I think that 240v outlet runs 30 amps, with a 10% tolerance for voltage that should run a 230v 5hp electric power washer at 3.5gpm@2400psi, that would be fun to have mounted right in the bed with a reservoir and a hose reel😁

I know they were Using the "Higher Voltage" Outlet in the Back for Heavy Duty stuff, but the 110VAC Outlets have "limits' to the amount the Truck is Capable of putting out. So in that regard this is GREAT Information to have, Being that ALL The FORD Commercials Lead you to Believe that you can Just Plug Anything in and Start Working???? • keep that garage door in case these electrics turn into fireballs and you gotta emergency roll it out. the fumes alone will kill and maim. ultra dangerous to anyone down-wind.

  • I have to say - in a matter of a few short months, my interest in “engine sound” has evaporated almost completely. Are there a few engines out there from exotic car manufacturers that sound exquisite? Sure. But 99.99% of cars just sound stupid, including all pickup trucks. Period. The noise is really aggravating after a while. So the prospect of this soon becoming a thing of the past, of cars becoming silent and causing less vibration, COULD NOT HAPPEN FASTER imo. Fun video btw

  • I wouldn’t touch that truck with a 10’ pole. I rather have a V8 naturally aspirated.

  • No matter what you do to a Ford truck or car, its still a Ford with all its inherent low quality workmanship, parts and inbuilt defects.
