💙 Who are we?
We are Ben and MP!
Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the work needed was much more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. Watch us as we bring Yabá back to life with the help of an amazing team of traditional shipwrights, sharing every phase of the process, overcoming the highs and lows and having fun along the way.

  • It is always best to attach the end of the chain to the boat with a piece of rope. Reason being that if ever it happens that your anchor got stuck you can cut the rope. Rather loose your anchor and chain than loose your boat.

Have you convinced yourself that the anchor is up to the task for the quite heavy Yabá..Don't forget the snubber and bridle for the anchor.. This is one of the most important safety features..

  • The story of Caillou and his friend (whose name I forget) is a special element of this amazing story of Yaba. They have had an amazing life adventure and it would be so touching to see more aspects of that. I have a great concern about the anchor and anchoring systems, Bruce anchors are very good but have their limitations such as on hard ground. Sometimes the depths of anchorages requires a very long chain & rode. Sometimes a second anchor is necessary, sometimes a stern anchor is needed. Do evaluate, get yourselves well equipped, trained, knowledgeable and standarised practices on board. You have not only re-built a great boat but you have also created a knowledge platform, make it even better! Keep everyone safe with your wonderful skills!

  • It will be great to see you guys under full sail with no engine running. I know you are excited as well.

  • I've been watching almost from the beginning. I am very happy and proud of you for your huge accomplishment. At times, it looked very difficult for you both. I think you both are amazing, and you deserve all the best. Thank you for documenting the journey so we all could participate in Yaba', enjoying every minute.
