We get our Jeep Wrangler back out on its first trail, Kane Creek in Moab during Easter Jeep Safari...only to find ourselves experiencing a lot of electrical failures off road!

It happens to all of us. You have a lot of cool stuff on your rig that can go wrong. The creature comforts are awesome, but buggies are just simple.
As a fabricator I miss Chris, his outside the box outlook for doing the impossible with just about nothing!
Battery tray, fuse box cover...sounds like you guys miss Chris as do us. Love the wheeling content, yes to more of them. Thanks for sharing.
Jeeps have always had electrical problems. I remember being on a trail in Moab with my buddy in his CJ7. His Jeep stopped running right before my 87 XJ did. Both were factory engineered electrical issues. Jeep later sent out instructions on how to bypass a bunch of stuff on my XJ to prevent the problem. The old CJ was too old for them to worry about. It's a Jeep thing and I do understand.
Love seeing y'all wheel again!!!
Good to see Colt out there!
Come out to the black hills after May 15, and bring both the Stepchild and the Side Chick, and of course, bring PB and Jelly...we'd be happy to introduce you to Cap'n Crunch for something different and difficult. We'd be happy to have you come out!
Sweet. Hit us on on Facebook or IG or email
FINALLY the Stepchild back on the trails!! On a side note: Some of ya'll need to chill. 🙄Kev isn't blaming Chris for anything....But I guess this is the world we are now accustom too. 🙄
Apparently, explaining a situation honestly is offensive to some people. 😅
@@LiteBrite Takes all kinds to make the world go round. lol Keep up the great work.
@@A1AJake Kev just mad because Chris isn't around to fix his damages, which means Kev needs to invest some of this KZhead $$ to get things fixed. Just life. For many, we just don't know how special and blessed we are to have certain people around in our lifes.
You realize…that we WERE investing our “KZhead $$” by paying Chris, right? He wasn’t doing the work for free, he was a paid employee. Oddly, we’ll be saving money by not having a full-time mechanic now.
We had a good day hanging with you two and PB&J.
31rst! Moab looks fantastic! Gotta get there, and a thousand other locals out here. All it takes is Time and Money. Missing Chris already? Even my old ‘95 ZJ had electrical gremlins. After “mechanics” replaced most of the sensors, turned out it was the PCM. No issues after I changed that (myself). “Mechanics” told me it would cost more than my ZJ was worth and would have to be “professionally reprogrammed”. Wrong! It was so easy - plug and play! Next project? How about a ZJ or WJ! LiteBriteNationShortsOut!
Hey Kevin what's the number one rule everyone going offroad should do before they go off road? Inspect everything. I know Chris has gone but who did the inspecting before he came along? I inspect suspension and engine before I go every time. I learned from going with someone else and discovering they hadn't checked things in a while. Nothing like repairs in the middle of no where, Not picking on you Kevin, I'd actually like to thank you for telling everyone what you found. Hopefully others are inspecting rigs they drive. You need a visit from the Chris.
Love the old Jeep pickup
Definitely need a battery box. It's a shame to have a rig like that and have a ratchet strap holding your battery in a good way to end up stranded
You guys inspired me to get a jeep and follow my off road dreams now I have a 2019 jeep wrangler and I love it starting a channel now and wanna see where all goes
That's Why I Drive Older Vehicle's! NOT Too many electronics! 😅
Chryslers of any year have electrical issues, and it seems Jeep didn’t escape that fate from being tied in with them either😂 and by any year I mean going back as far as they made cars with a battery in them
On my ‘23 JLUR Extreme Recon, I was having ABS, TCS system issues like yours, whenever I would go into 4lo and then turn off ALL nanny’s by pushing and holding the TCS button, my system would go haywire, turn on all the lights, give me a “service your TCS” message. I think it was linked to my Tazer. I was able to clear the code. But when I pulled the Tazer, it didn’t happen. Put the Tazer back in happened once more….. not sure if you are running a Tazer, but try that and see if any changes.
I can't say for sure, but I just watched Bleepin Colt fix a Wrangler's odd electrical problems by changing out the clockspring behind the steering wheel. He said they were the same on 2007 - 2017, but it may still apply to yours. Good Luck!
Love the trail vids. Keep em coming.
The amount of send on the hamburger hill climb in the stepchild was very precise
Think you should get a Jeep with 35’s and challenge your skills lol! I like how you finessed the Stepchild on the last obstacle, nice and easy.
Great video, guys. awesome to see you back on it
The step child made it all look so easy.
Great job! Good to see your pups too!
Nice seeing Stepchild back in action! 👍
Looks like a fun trail!
Hamburger hill is nice! Same thing happened to me as well--> rig just scoots over to the driver side and u can't go forward or back ward... Lol, that's why there is an anchor point for winching👍👍👍
Will be going there with few buddies at the end of April.... Want to avoid the huge crowds associated with ester j. S.
Great job again.
I did Kane creak for the first time last EJS and it was fun and scenic! Hamburger hill was the most fun!! Been there more than once on not hitting record and missing out on footage!! Sounds like you need a new fabricator!? I know a guy..... JS
Thanks for sharing, I have always wanted to do that trial. cheers.
Living your best lives!
Just another thing for Chris to fix. 🤦🏼♂️😅 One thing right after another, it seems. Lol Careful guys, wherever you go, suppose to be an eclipse going on, Monday, as well. 😎
We fixed it (a least tightening the battery cables) right there in the trail. And we’ll replace the ABS sensors when we’re back home. Chris is officially gone, unfortunately.
@LiteBrite damn! Well...least it got fixed, that's a plus. 🙂
Electrical grimlins are terrible. Maybe, if your passing by TN you can reach out to Scotty Kilmer and have him scan it for free. Love the trail videos. Happy Trails to you both.
Definitely amazing build 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
Little secret. I love my cruise control also. My jk does that shit all the time. So if you stop put jeep in neutral turn the key off. Start the jeep turn steering wheel all the way one way or the other. Put it in gear and roll about 5 feet or so before straighting the wheel. Should turn those lights off and cruise control will again. Sometimes it will kick out and you will need to stop and do it again
Kane Creek is one of my fav's. Say Hi to Nadel for me. --Mark
Yes, wheeling videos again!
Great video thank you!
Watch a number of Moab channels and first time I've seen Kane trail. Lately, the fave has been 777 trail so was nice to see something else. Love watching Moab videos as the area is stunning.
Great, now I got to go back and find out what kind of engine you got in that thing because that is so smooth. Good job guys I haven’t watched in a year or two but I’m glad I found you again.
Stroked 426! 🤙
we have upgrade and fixed everything mechanically and it is perfect! boom, electrical says hi
Ain’t that how it always is!
We took the outside line about 10 years ago in a 1999 Chevy Silverado with a 2" lift. Made it up, but then the front diff broke and made for an interesting day after that.
Being a die hard GM guy it was really nice to see a couple Chevy's on the trail😂❤!!
Had same problem. Abs control module
love the jeep that climbed mt washington :)
I have had the clock spring cause some of the same problems you are describing.
My toxic trait is thinking I can take my Ram on these trails and then seeing a “hard” obstacle pop up and realizing I can’t. 😁
Four letter word that stars with J…
I had the same issue with our JL. Turned out the CANBUS was bad. Ordered a replacement on eBay and swapped it out. It’s behind the glove box.
Batteries can be a big issue. Our '23 JLU is fine. But our '18 Ram 2500 4wd 6.7L had 4 trips to the dealer for OBD2 code P20EE. The dealer changed a lot of parts, mostly under warranty. I noticed the main battery was testing a little out of spec. Had Walmart replace the battery with an AGM battery. No problems of any kind since, in the years time since the battery change. The stock battery did not appear to be AGM.
Peanut and Jelly 🥰🥰❤️❤️💯🤙
If you come to the PNW soon I’ll build you a sweet battery mount.
For the scanner, I have had good luck with a cheapo Foxwell NT510 elite. When you purchase it you get 1 manufacturer specific software, but can have multiple on one scanner. It's an older model now, get the newer spec if purchasing now. I haven't got the Chrysler software yet but for the wife's Optima it has worked great for me. Live data, testing sensors, reading all the systems, electric parking brake change, etc. Funny too, my '21 JLUR just starting giving random abs issues. Light on during startup and while idling, then as soon as you move it shuts off. Every few times the service 4wd light is on as well, but not everytime. So I will definitely be purchasing that software and updating my scanner soon.
JLUR sounds like a dirty/damaged ABS sensor.
@@darrinrebagliati5365 usual suspect for sure. However on Easter we led a night ride and a stick managed to wedge itself between the body and a cross member towards the rear right along the driveshaft. So I'm not sure if it got into a harness or not. Gonna diag it this week and knock out some needed maintenance while I am there.
@@vdub5818 the trials and tribulations of an offroad enthusiast! Have fun.
I love it when the 'Child' is on and Kevin is able to crawl up some of the obstacles. 👍
Sorry everything keeps breaking, that's no fun. Best of luck to you guys. Love your videos. For beginners, what gear should we bring with us on the trails, and should we do anything to our vehicles before trailing? Thanks
UH....because it's a Jeep!
Just eat every penny. Lol
Just Empty Every Pocket!
The thing about Moab is you do the same trail over and over but in the und it’s a different experience each time 😂😂😂😂😂
Call me crazy, but would love to see Kevin take a smaller less built Jeep on some of these trails. It would be interesting to see how all the experience gained can be put to use, and help out all of us weekend wheelers.
What do you think of the new Jeep Scrambler 392 Concept?
Regardless if you paid Chris or not, he seemed like a mate on the channel. I wouldn’t be calling out things he missed online. That’s how it came across even if you didn’t mean it that way.
It’s just the truth of what’s happening in the moment. We even laughed and said it’s not a big deal just telling people what to look out for if they are having issues
Kane Creek trail has gotten harder due to rain storms over the years
The issue is that too many features depend on electronics. If you have one circuit that fails in three years not a big problem. When you have hundreds of electronic circuits one may fail at any moment. It is best to simplify and try to have the least number of features with electronic circuits to increase reliability. Especially on trials.
I have the same issue with not being able to turn off traction control 😢
Get a Topdon Topscan to keep with you.
TEASE!!!!! 😂😂😂
I feel like Kevin is about to get a Grenadier and fix it up
nothing more permanent then a temporary fix that works....lol
Right!
@11:55 Brittney's laugh says it all. I say, "Your Step Child grew up into a BEAST"!
looks like fun. I bit upset that you didnt take a golden opportunity. You had a killer mechanic and fabricator and you werent in the shop learning from him.
We have no interest in fabrication & have plenty of general mechanics experience (rebuilding dozens of engines and cars long before KZhead existed). We’ll save the fabrication for those who enjoy it. ☺️
Was there a winch point at the top of Hamburger Hill? In case you can't get a first Jeep up to act as your anchor?
Yes, there’s a winch point!
Electrical problems are a common problem with the Fiat Chrysler products. I’ve had to replace so much stuff the first 100k miles.
my radio never worked properly from the factory allways would freeze its better now but now the usb ports are dead lol and the dealer gave up
Probably should have looked at the engine before leavening And stop blaming our golden child Chris.
We were just explaining the situation honestly, as it was happening and what to look out for just in case. Chris was the last one to touch any of those components, which is why that was mentioned. But in general, if you pay a mechanic to finish & prep a rig for you before a trip, you usually don’t then go over that vehicle yourself (you just trust that the work was finished). But it’s all good, mistakes happen (and Chris was in a hurry to move, so we understand he was also probably a little distracted), we’re just being honest about the situation as it was occurring on the trail. The facts shouldn’t upset you that much. 😅 Especially since we found & fixed the problem (at least one of them) right there on the trail.
You think the Braptor could make Kane Creek? Seems a little tight.
Ya if you have a winch and don’t mind some scratches
JEEP = Just Enought Electrical Problems. Had a Jeep for 13 years and that was my only headaches.
GOtta tell me what is up with the ABS. I've struggled with the ABS turning on anytime the vehicle has run more than about 15 minutes. When it fails, the downhill assist light comes on first and then immediately following, the ABS light. Wasted all kinds of money at the Stealership. They have been unable to fix it. Kind of frustrating, as when it kicks on, the trans downshifts, but eventually upshifts again. Once it fails, it seems to shift a tiny bit late. From a cold start, it always resets itself, and is good for the first 15 minutes of driving. If its cold outside, it may be OK for a little longer. Hoping when you figure stuff out, it provides a little better insight as to what is going on with mine.
Ours is showing left front wheel speed sensor failure
@@LiteBrite For your sake, I hope that is all it is on yours. Dealer replaced the rear speed sensors and the wire harness. The error code is an impossible value from the speed sensor. I've been hesitant to assume its just a speed sensor, as I have to think the dealer would have replaced that. That and it will error out while the vehicle is in park.
9:31 Who is that in yellow tj??
Could be a wheel speed sensor going out
Ya code is for left front wheel sensor
failing because you said you were done, "the Jeep is DONE", so you Jeep said... Oh Yea, done you say? Now start the "Repair" list! ha ha Be safe have a blast!
Haha. I hope not
Colt made that spot look easy
That Smokeshow of his(Colts) looks like it should have 'Tonka' written on it
Now that's what the old channel was it's about the country how different the it is from one state to the next get that electric problem fixed no more Chris 😢
Run it up Medusa in jv.
I've heard about wheel speed sensors in JLs, owning one myself. Jeep, in all it's intelligence, decided that if a wheel speed sensor goes bad, the Jeep should just... shut off all safety features period. ABS, traction control, stability control, everything. Why, I don't know. Maybe the engineer was hung over that day. Idk.
Yep, that’s what it was for me.
@@Trail429I had it once myself, but it fixed itself after I turned the jeep off and back on. Sometimes they can just get dirty and they throw codes. Wash them off and they work good for a while again.
"I didn't know..." hmmmmm.
I'd watch the hell out of you guys ripping a stock+ XR package. Wayalife did stocker content for a second. XR package would be a happy medium from stock Sport to full built Stepchild. Get it done Kevin. Don't let Britneys common sense and financial responsibility hold you back.
👍
Water, and pounding, twisting of body of jeep ,
It’s coming down to monster trucks vs Jeeps. Tire size is cheating
Finally some dog content
Temporary permanent 😂😂
Wink, wink, know what I mean?
Because it is a Jeep.
SABOTAGE!! Obviously forgot to program something or hook up !!!
👍🏽🇺🇸👍🏽
👍❤️ #Jellynation
🤷♂ chris
I never got into flying airplanes for a reason..it wasnt cuz i cant fly...
I remember in the early days you guys always worked on your jeep. Don’t even respond to the haters. 😂
Haha. They think because we don’t that we can’t. Not everyone likes working on things. We will if we have to but just don’t enjoy it
Bit rough to blame things on Chris. Its your rig, check it over and if there's any issues , deal with it or pay someone to do it . Chris is gone, not your slave anymore. Time to own it yourself again .
What the fuck? lol So many terrible assumptions in this comment (and you know what they say about “assuming”). First off - Chris wasn’t a slave, he was a very well paid & compensated employee (who happened to also be an amazing friend). So…we DID pay someone to do it, like you said. If you take your rig into a shop and pay for something to be done, do you just not trust them to do it and recheck every bit of their work yourself? Should we NOT have had faith in Chris, and go over his work like micromanaging assholes every time he touched the Jeep? Yeahhh…no. Mistakes happen, he was sidetracked with a baby on the way and getting ready to move, and that’s totally understandable. We found the issues, fixed them, it’s all good. We were just showing and stating the facts. 🤙
jeeps are known for electronics problems
Black tape
Haha the fix all
What causes that clicking sound on the white rubicon @9:00
I have that too on my JK occasionally, not sure what it is
For me and my JK, it was the stock front driveshaft.
@@StlrNtn95 I have an aftermarket double cardan front shaft, still have the stock rear driveshaft. What on the DS was popping?
