  • Couple of tips: 1: If your lead screw is dragging on the half nut, you may have to adjust the the alignment of the two end bearing blocks. Mine is noticeably not straight but not bent either. This can affect bearing life and power efficiency. 2: It may be a good idea to install a rubber guard to cover the gap between the ways and the head. You can also find cheap accordion style way covers. 3: If you have a 3d printer you can make simple telescopic covers for the lead screw.

    • Good tips there. IM not a fan of the metal covers as they act like a spring so a 3d printed one is a good alternative.

  • Bought the same model new. When I got it, what a mess. Dents and scratches. That's not the bad part though. The first time I turned it on it blew the control panel. When I opened it up there were loose wires. I think it was wired wrong as it didn't blow the fuse. Waiting for a replacement panel and asked for a wiring diagram. I don't think I will have much luck with the diagram though. While I'm waiting I'm also painting and working on all the rough finish. Good video, thank you.

    • @@howdoidoit1 Really could use your help. Got the wiring diagram from the vendor.....basically useless. One of the things I'm having trouble with is that there are two wires from the on/off switch that are so close in color, black and I'm guessing brown, that I'm not sure which is which. If you get a chance to open your unit again, I would love to get some pictures of the wiring. Best Regards, Greg.....

    • The worst part about this model is it cuts like shit. I completely replaced. Bearings, compound, cross slide, saddle, apron , chuck to get it to not have chatter. I should have bought another lathe. But mine was the ys-2180 8x32 Your head stock casing has a lot more material than mine. Maybe this is better.

    • i have the exact same model - and it's not a bad machine..sure cant compare it in rigidness whit my Colechester, but for a small machine it's quite ok - however it takes some tinkering to get it better , all surfaces on the castings are very rough, and an evening taking everything apart and getting ridd of all the coarse corners and stuff whit a stone is some hours well spent - my ,achine also had something very annoying, and it again was due to casting of the bed, when cranking the handwheel it was light and easy at the middle but harder at the ends, especially at the chuck-end,i measured the surfaces, and it was thicker at the chuckend and tailstock-end than in the middle,so i dismantled the entire machine and put the bed upside down in my mill and milled the bottompart to a straight thickness, and then put it all together again and adjusted the carrige- now its the same resistance on the handle all over the bed - i am at the moment ordering parts to get ridd of that small 1-phase motor and replace it whit a 3phase 4-pole 2,2 kw-motor that will be controlled by a vfd

  • This video jumps all over the place. Starts disassembling something, and then jumps to something else before finishing the first part. Just like stripping down the spindle, leaving the rotating magnets behind the drive gear, and then taking apart another part of the gear train.
