Vintage Cleaver (Butcher's knife) restoration - DIY tool restoration - MWIG #6
After seeing my videos on KZhead, my neighbor asked me to restore his Old Cleaver also called Butcher's Knife
I will not say that this is the best restoration, but I really liked the process of restoration.
I figured it would be very simple to restore this Cleaver, but it turned out that this is not such an easy process.
Enjoy watching my friends.

Cool Video My Friend
Outstanding workmanship. Sir you are true craftsman. I wish you were my next door neighbour.
Really cool. As usual. Love your work.
Leo, Thnx for watching buddy!
Big Like 👍
Love the new tang, and the end product. But next time you weld something together, be sure to heat treat it ❤️
Thnx Dude
big fan From india🙃😀🙃
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍perfection
Unfortunately you lost me when you cut off the original tang. I would have preferred incorporating the old one into your newer design. But it's your blade, whatever you choose to do is up to you.
I was very confused by that, he could have easily made another cleaver with how much steel he wasted.
Very good restoration bro 👍👍👍🔪🔪🔪🔪
Nice build, balance and lines are gorgeous. Thanks for sharing. Cheers
hey Rick, Thnx for your comment :-) But i think that i made a razor blade from it :-)
Cleaver (Butcher's knife) restoration After seeing my videos on KZhead, my neighbor asked me to restore his Old Cleaver also called Butcher's Knife
Very nice, but i hope it will never be used for heavy work. It's dangerous... you didn't heat treat it after stick welding. It may brake and hurt someone. Area after welding should be tempered to avoid fracture under heavy loads.
You sell? Love your Work
Beautiful job. While I would have left the old tang on I like the end product. I have an old cleaver with a short tang that I've been thinking about lengthening the handle. This gives me some ideas. Thank you.
Thanx mate.
Amigo excelente trabajo.
Excelente maquina amigo. Pero usted no las hace por encargo ? Y cual seria su valor? Aqui le adjunto mi correo electronico: alejandroenoc@gmail.com. Cualquier dato o alguna recomendacion sirve amigo. Saludos 👍
Absolutely beautiful!!! When you cut off the handle I thought oh no, but the upgraded handle is a million times better. Great video and skills!!
When you cut off the handle I thought oh no - Me too
hey Bob, Thnx for watching Bro !
wow awsome
Tout simplement Magnifique 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I gasped when he cut the old handle off! Should have left it on.I think this cleavers were used to chop caracas in half down the centre of the spine
you R perfect my bro
Now why would you weaken the blade by cutting off the original tang, and then NOT heat treating it?
it's amazing 😍😍😍
You turned an old 20th century butcher knife into a kind of lethal 21st century weapon. I thought it turned out beautiful, but I'm not sure if I liked it. One thing is one thing, another thing and another thing
Major problem...since you cut the handle off, the cleaver is only as strong as your weld. Before, that was 1 forged piece, much better. You should have left the steel on and added to it how you saw fit. Now your weld joint is a major weak point. Sorry, but this will fail at some point. Looks cool, but not useful now.
What in the hell you plan on cutting with it,it's a kitchen utensil,That weld will hold up just fine in a kitchen!!
Love the quality of the work but no so sure about the new look
50х2000
@@meanwhileinthegarage спасибо )
Not bad, not bad at all. A lot nicer then most others I've seen on UT. Thumbs Up!
Handle inside holes are a little big imo. Kinda feels like it had weakened it. Except than that, good work.
Dude. Cutting off the original tang? What the hell!?
I have a doubt in my mind, may I ask you? is that joint you welded strong enough to face hard impact!
Zombie test that!!!
I think this is what my dad used to call a "hog splitter"
Hog splitter is the correct term.
why so sharp those are used to cleave down back bones of beasts not cut apples
I think I overdid it a bit)) made a big razor blade out of it))))
Beautiful job. You really are excellent at this.
What a beast - but I do not like the cracks in the blade.
Very nice work. Like the new hanging hole at the end.
😍
Класс
Lovely piece! Would make an excellent hog-splitter.
Welding the blade to the tang creates a weak stress point in a critical area if this is done the blade should be heat treated.
Great work👏👏👏
ongelooflijk scherpe meske , goed gedaan man !!!
The old was more beautyful
I would had just removed rust and leaved the old pitting, then keep the original handle and fill in the holes with epoxy
👍👍👍👍👍
👍
Sorry but this was not a restoration it was a mutilation .
Very very good job. I like to watch the restoration video. I think your job is more safe than other youtuber. Because you were putting on safety gloves.
tang was good why did you cut it off ?
Lajk...
GREAT JOB FREIND. I LIKE YOUR SHARPENING RIG. 👍👍
Thnx Dude
Very impressive!
That's not really a restoration. You've just cut the blade off an old knife and made a totally new knife using the old blade. It's good, just that the only restoration is the renewal of the blade.
well look new & fresh.. but i doubt the handle, look sturdy without heat treatment after you cut it & welded new tang right in weak point of the knife..it is easy to broken if it for hard use.. becoz its butcher knife, try to cut raw meat included their fat fresh from animal..
I don’t really like the stripes and the protrusion from the handle but it’s your cleaver, not mine
2.30......holy shit...how could this happen??...u went out to lunch while the mill runnin?...btw...great job on that cleaver.....regards from Germany
Where can I buy this at?
Do you want to buy this one ?

Magnifique ! Je m abonne 😍😍😍
Typical beginner tutorial. No tools are needed😉. Seriously: Great work👍, but please.... Don't cut apples, it's made to cut arms and legs😏
AT THREE MINUTES I SAID BEEP NO!!!
Ta femme était content du nouveau couteau à beurre 😘👍👍👍👍

you are supposed to wet the whetstones before using them.
Good job, but I was wondering why he didn't harden it. 🤔
Very good, subbed, but please use gloves, dont ruin your hands
Thnx buddy.
Beautiful work, I wouldn't call it a restoration
Well Done!
Ronald, Thnx for watching and leaving comment !
This was two restorations videos in a row I watched the person cut wood with a hacksaw. SMH.
Awesome work though. Thanks for sharing.
Lol. Thnx buddy.
Not a restoration.. this was a remake.. a shame to cut off the old tang, and the sandblasting stuff..
I don't think this kind a thick skleton blade handle would survive a real tasx... Just for the show case
you have uesed the wrong word for this project (restoration) ... you have done a alteration .........
lol .......stop chopping paper and apple with it , chop some bone or wood or someing tough..... by the way the edge of your blad is still cracked .......
It’s ironic that you butchered a cleaver 😒
That was not a restoration. You ruined a beautiful tool.
destroyed!!!!!
