"Andre Galvao is one of the greatest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu athletes of all time, with 6 IBJJF World Championship titles, 10 IBJJF Pan American Championships, and 6 ADCC World Championship titles (4x as the ADCC Super Fight Champion). He received his black belt from Luis “Careca” Dagmar, having also worked extensively with Fernando Terere. Galvão is also a former mixed martial artist, with an MMA record of 5-2-0 before he retired to lead the Atos Jiu-Jitsu Academy's Headquarters in San Diego, California. Today, Atos is considered one of the best jiu-jitsu academies in the world, producing World Champion athletes at all levels, from juvenile and white belt all the way to black belt.

  • I love this mount escape. I do it a lot. It’s probably I number two mount escape technique. My other mount escape is “Crazy Legs”. You know the one for insanely flexible people.

    • Gordon Ryan is a world class player so I wouldn't expect this to work on him. If you are a white or blue belt going to Grappling X I tend to believe you have a shot at this working quite well.

  • Awesome technique! So for the person on top to shut this down, what option does he have? I suppose he has to stay low without giving up the half guard. Try to keep his kneed tightly pressing in. attack Uke's neck so his mind is on surviving not on escaping.

  • Great technique. In live spar, I ask my partner to "can you get off me please" but they are not as good as Jonathan and only sometimes do. Better sometimes then never and they never expect the leg attack from surprise guard .

    • That's the thing though. While they are trying to punch you, they got no stability because their whole body and mind is engaged in trying to punch you. So you have more options to escape.

    • Galvao is black belt since 2005. Maybe you watch it here last and thats why you think that way. The defense aspect of bjj is up there for a looooong time. 👍🏼 Keep it up on researching and learning. Take care!
