Learn how to make trestles for log hewing in the woods, from a tree you just felled with your axe! I take you through all the steps to get going with your hewing axe,to make lumber, furniture or bushcraft camp equipment. Handtools only!
Nice project and cute family. I definitely like the look of those trestles.
Thanks. They will work allright, I’ll see if I need to replace the legs or not. It’s fun to get Samson out in the woods, he’s very interrested in fire … and pretty much anything that goes into our mouths he also wants.
Love the sound of that log crackig as you drive the wedges in
I thought it was pretty satisfying too.
I have really been enjoying your videos lately. The project turned out great. You really showed the versatility of that axe. Bucking, splitting, hewing and some bushcraft work as well !
Glad to hear it. I do my best to make nice and interresting videos. To be honest though, the Rinaldi America isn’t a good splitting axe. The blade profile is too thin for that. But any axe will split a bit, and the oak wedges helped in the end. To me, it was actually very interresting to try a bit of hewing with it, since I hadn’t done that before. When I cut off the hump on the first log with the cracks is the best example if that. It worked pretty well for there, I think.
That axe is a beast, makes short work the trunk
Yes, it’s a great axe. But I’ll get something a bit heavier soon, I think.
Great vid! Beaut patch of forest, nice work and good on you for getting some family time in there. Cheers for the shoutout too. Keep up the good work 👍👍🪓
Glad you liked it. I try to mention the people I learn stuff from, seems only fair. This piece of forest is a short walk away from our house, up on a little hill. It’s been pretty much left alone for quite some time. I’ll probably try to take down some pine and spruce to make room for birch, the preferred firewood in our parts.
Intressant video, fortsätt med det du gör vetja
Kul att du gillade den. Det kommer mer inom kort!
@@myoutdoorways Mycket bra idé, väntar tålmodigt

It looks like you got that axe dialed in quite nicely. It will be interesting to see how that handle holds up with the amount of grain runout it has. Kurt S. is as skilled an axeman as I have seen on KZhead. A person can learn just by watching him chop (and I find it relaxing and therapeutic). Another good video! Well done.
Thanks! Yes, it works very well now. I’ll see how long the handle will last as an experiment. I’ve been offered a replacement handle from the seller. Kurt actually found my channel and we wrote back and forth a bit in the commentary fields just before I edited this video. He seems like a nice guy, and very skilled too.
@@myoutdoorways Agreed. He comments and replies on a number of videos I watch.

You can't really cut it so it becomes Longer !! Best sentence I've heard in a video 😂😂😂
Yes, I try to make a joke whenever I can. I’m glad you were amused!

I've never seen a telescoping blow pipe. Would you have a link where I could get one ?
It’s great, especially if you have some facial hair … here’s where I got it, a Swedish outdoor-prepper-military surplus site, but you can find them in various places around the internet. rodastjarnan.com/en/tents-and-cooking/telescopic-fire-blow-pipe-45863
It's also called a "pocket bellows".
Ok, good to know when googling for it. I found quite a few dealers just searching for telescopic blow pipe.
And everyone thinks conifers are just soft and easy. . !!!
Well, the lower part of any tree is probably going to put up a fight as best it can, regardless the species. Wedges help though. A cheekier axe probably would have aswell.
Realmente es necesario cortar arboles?
Don’t you think you aim your concerns at the wrong target here? Why don’t you attack the logging companies, who clearcut vast forests of old growth, planting huge monocultural production forests to replace the biodiversity they destroy, instead of harassing someone who carefully pick inferior trees and cut them without heavy machinery, allowing stronger trees to prosper instead? But maybe it’s too risky to go after the real badguys, so you go for safer targets instead?
Arboles no por favor👎
Do you really think you’re on the right channel?
