At the Battle of Vienna 1683
King Jan III Sobieski led a massive united charge towards the Ottomans.
This was the largest cavalry charge in history, with about 18,000 horsemen involved and while there were other allied cavalry present, it was the Winged Hussars who led the charge!

Also the intimidating sound in pop culture connected to the wings in reality were made by a flags connected to lances. Which by the way were that long despite what he said they were probably to long to handle in battle. Hussars had leather strap with bucket attached to the saddle. They put the end of the lance in it so bot only rider didn't have to hold the whole weight in his hand but it also provided secondary leverage point for better handling

The scent of a predator startled the enemy horses. The feathers in the wings make a whistling sound. Hundreds of them the sound was intimidating. • 4:52 i remember my history teacher telling us that the feathers on the back were primarly to intimidate the enemy by the sound made by feathers, they were higher than the warrior himself so enemy could see and hear incoming pounding he's about to receive. So me personally i belive that these wings were sort of morale patches but much more effective and symbolic to indomitable force of Polish Hussars.
