The 2024 Chevrolet Trax Activ Is What Happens When An Ugly Duckling Becomes A Swan

2023 ж. 1 Мам.
192 288 Рет қаралды

Cheap doesn't have to mean driving around in a penalty box. For years, the #ChevroletTrax has been the epitome of cheap and ugly, but for 2024, the redesigned #Trax sheds its unattractive design for a much sleeker and modern appearance that has a much more premium vibe. #Chevrolet even managed to reduce the price of the #ChevyTrax by about $1000 compared to the previous generation. The #TraxActiv and #TraxRS sit at the top of the trim hierarchy, but even the fully loaded models top out around $27k fully loaded.

  • This is the problem. So many people complaining about how unaffordable car prices are. An inexpensive, decent looking car is introduced and everyone is talking about what features it doesn’t have. You’re not going to get a 500hp, all leather, awd, latest tech vehicle for $20k!

    • @Martin DeBrois Unfortunately, I think EVs will move us all into seeing cars like cellphones, something to be replaced at the end of a warranty or contract/lease as prices are getting so high. Recycling is getting better, but it is still a lot of energy and materials tied into something disposable. Maybe they will get to the point of more modular cars where pieces, styling and platforms can be swapped out instead of the whole thing.

    • @@WhizoRiz The 3 cylinder not "manly" enough for you? Not everyone needs a V8 to compensate for what they are lacking elsewhere. The 3cyl engine is not uncommon and has been pretty normal to see in the US and Canada since the mid 80's. Pro's: They sound like a much larger V6 so while they are tiny they actually have a deep growl to them which is kind of hilarious. 2. Some of them are more than just sound and are incredibly powerful for the displacement. Example: The 3cyl GR Corolla is pushing out 300+ horse stock in a tiny AWD, 6-speed manual rocket designed and built by Gazoo Racing as a rally car. You know people are going to tune them, upgrade the turbos etc. for even more HP. 3. They are incredibly efficient. Cons: not many but they won't impress your average gearhead, well ok... the GR might grab their attention. So I guess the answer is yes, Americans did demand a "washing machine engine."

  • I snagged mine Saturday after seeing it was in transit to dealer but just so happened it had already arrived that day and was getting registered and detailed. I got the mosaic black LT and the one I lucked out on has every upgrade offered in these Trax. I have the sunroof package, the full electronics package wireless apple/Android car play, adaptive cruise control, drivers confidence package, keyless remote start, LT Convenience Package. The seats are the Evotec leatherette/cloth combo. It has heated seats, heated mirrors and wheel, wireless charging pad, the works and it's fun as hell to drive. Got mine for $26,000 out the door with gap insurance and extended warranty. I happened to be at the dealership as they were unloading it and knew I found a steal as I hadn't seen another LT fully loaded like this anywhere and this one had more upgrades than any of the RS trims I had looked at. I prefer the blue accents inside the LT as there are just a few on the dash and not allover the seats like the RS and the blue accents blend with the screen displays. The red or yellow in the other trim models continues it onto the seats which I didn't like at all. The only change I'm making are the gold bowties to black ones. If you can find one like mine there's no way I'd go with a higher trim because really all that changes are the inches of the wheels, a power seat and seat material, and gloss grill. Im obsessed with mine! She's a sexy little thing for this mama to drive around town. 2 of my 3 kids are out of the house now so I got to downsize from my big SUV and this was the perfect little crossover to do it in. I don't need a luxury car I've always been a Chevy girl but I feel like I'm not sacrificing much honestly. The tech in the car is so incredible at this price point, it was a no-brainer and I love it!! My only dislikes was no air vent in the back and I'd love an arm rest with no cup holders in the backseat. Obviously I'd trash the gold bowties and have mine completely blacked out but that's it. Just can't praise this car enough. It's pretty cool because mine is the only one Ive seen on the road here in DFW in Texas so far. I also drive like a maniac and I have had zero problem zipping in and out of Texas traffic. I'm a left lane only driver and this car is definitely having no issue passing everybody up. Just love it!

The seats were comfortable to me - about average - my gripe pertaining to the front seats is it doesn’t retract back far enough to accommodate my 5 ft 11 height. And one more thing, it doesn’t have a power tailgate; however, everything else was ultimately nice for a brand new mid $20k vehicle. Also, I don’t think a typical Trax buyer will touch the dashboard, upper door panels and bottom panel to complain about hard touch plastics with the exception of no cup holders in the rear nor an armrest.

  • Im picking up my 2024 Trax RS Nitro tommorrow. I drove the Corolla Cross, the VW Taos and VW Jetta, the Honda HRV. (all current modely year) I did not consider the Nissan Kicks, as it was just too small, about 10 inches smaller than the Trax. The Hyundai Venue is also too small, according to reviewers. The Subaru Crosstek was for consideration, but none were available to drive at the time. The Trax was much larger than the Cross, much less expensive and better equipped than the Taos, and Jetta, and also cheaper and better than the HRV. The HRV has the same faded terrible touch screen as the old Civic, very difficult to even see the backup camera in the daytime because of glare. Honda mostly omitted the blind spot monitor "due to chip shortage". What a terrible idea to compromise our safety so they can churn out more cars, shame on you Honda! The HRV was also much less equipped, and more costly. The TAOS and Jetta are both good, but provide far less value as they offer fewer features at higher prices, mostly like all the others. Trax was the clear winner, I got every option except power seats, which is only available in the ACTIV model. "The other guys" just dont offer heated seats, heated Steering wheel, Blind spot monitor and Adaptive Cruise, at this price point, and cost much more. I dont care about the lack of power tailgate..or lack of power seats. Safety first, connivence second. One of the biggest plusses for the Trax. They are making lots of them, and they are available, Not so with Corolla Cross, HRV, Crosstek, Maverick. What good is it for them to make a car then its not available? Been there, done that with the Maverick, the RAV4 hybrid, Sienna. No more waiting months or years for cars for me, when I can buy the Trax now.

I changed my Encore to this and holey hell you cant compare them at all, and the encore had AWD this one dosnt but who cares, i never had AWD besides the encore and its not something i will miss, imo its just another part that breaks. What i am worried though is motor and tranny durability, i know these motors were used previously and they had problems so lets hope the engineers adressed the timing belt issue this motor had before. Other than that, i have nothing bad to say, i hit the highway yesterday and i didnt even realize i was going 30 over the limit... power delivery is good enough to get you around and pass cars on the highway no problem. For the price we paid for this i am happy.

It was the "EXTRA" vehicle that did yeoman service in foul weather or as the "DOG TAXI" to save wear and tear on the Germans and Italians it shares the garage with. I have the current generation Trax and it has been very reliable over the 130k miles it has been driven but if the weather is nice I don't grab its keys. You see..its kind of the Toyota-Honda-Nissan theory: You dont need a big V8 like we used to think in the 90's. And, we said the same thing about Japanese 4 cylinders..(they wont last). We had to eat our words when Toyotas, Hondas and Nissan's 4 bangers out lasted many of our V8's. You may not have been around then, so you probably dont know this. • So good looking. The only thing missing is awd. And the only reason I say that is because the Trailblazer is just not good for how expensive it is. Putting AWD in this would not make it as expensive as the Trailblazer. Chevy needs to throw Awd in this an turn the Trailblazer into a true Bronco Sport competitor. I just think this and the trailblazer have too much overlap while each having some big drawbacks.

How well will this thing hold it's value? It's nice looking and has a great set of features for it's price but if I can't drive this thing at least 10-12 years before it's toast I will stay away. I can get a Mazda cx30 or Honda HRV for just a tad more and I have way more confidence in those making it a long time without constant repairs and actually being worth something when I finish paying for it. Could we get a trim without the safety electronics, maybe a manual driver's seat option and add AWD? I think this car is bigger than the Trailblazer (it is longer). The thing is, Chevy can easily cut straight into Subaru's market with a non-CVT AWD car with seats that are more comfortable in the Chevy than the Subaru.
