1965 Impala SS -vs- Challenger Hellcat Redeye -vs- Mustang GT 5.0

2020 ж. 30 Там.
583 541 Рет қаралды

When I first saw this Impala driving onto the paddock, I thought to myself 'What a clean looking classic car!'. Fresh paintjob, no rust and awesome steelies. However, little did I know, it had a 700+hp setup under the hood.
This 1965 Chevrolet Impala SS is powered by a boosted (procharged) 400cui small block V8.

The newer cars are Luxed out to the max with all the extras no one askes for. And that plus all of the governmental required parts. And the Impala weights less too.

After we started pulling a tent trailer he decided to put a Muncie 4 speed with a Hurst Competition Plus linkage on the floor. I had designs to run an ATI Procharger like this one but on a 383 Chevy rather than 400. While I owned it, I swapped out the Powerglide trans for a TH350, bolted on Vette "fuelie" heads to the 327, added a Performer RPM intake, Holly Double Pumper, Mallory ignition, Hooker headers and Flowmasters dumped at the rear axle, rebuilt the suspension and dropped it by 2 inches. It wasn't a strip monster but a fantastic road car and a hell of a lot of fun. I miss that car every day… but I still have some fun toys.

I know they are still around but Procharger really stepped up their game about 15 years ago and kinda took over as far as centrifugal's go. Nowdays it seems the biggest worry about building a boosted anything is the decision to go turbo or centrifugal? Does one want to step up to a more complex twin turbo setup or fight with belt issues on a big single Procharger? What a connundrum... LoL

  • One big advantage the newer cars have is the transmission . The older cars usually have a 3 speed automatic going against a 4 or 6 speed in the newer cars . .

  • Pimp my Ride did a show on a '65 Impala. They put a 750 HP twin turbo Duramax diesel in it. Ran on french fry oil. It smoked a Lamborghini !!! This car would be a good match for the other Impala. Not sure what elapsed time was, but it was epic. It still exists in KZhead.
