About this video: Are you colorblind or do you have a color vision deficiency? In this video, Joseph J. Allen, OD, FAAO will explain the ishihara test to help you answer the question “ am i colorblind “. Not every color test out on the internet is the same but the most common is the ishihara test. This color blindness test will help identify inherited red-green color blindness as well as give clues toward the presence of deuteranopia (green colorblindness) and protanopia (red color blindness). 2:16 Left: I don't see either 3 or 8 there. Basically is a blank colored circle plate! Right: I see the 5 pretty clearly! 2:42: Left: I see a sort of 6 somehow. Right: I see some sort of 71, but in the same time could be, for me, 21 and also i can see the 4 there, so 74. Therefore i can see 21, 71, and 74 there. But the strongest is the 71 for me ! 3:07 Left: I see the 7 ! Right: I see a sort of 25 the other side, but is so, so, so pale! 3:19 Left: I see a strange sort of 2. Right: It's so hard to see it, but i can see a sort of 2. 3:48: Left: I see the 16 ! Right: That line goes as a snake inverted "S" between those two X, but it's so unclear, that if i do not pay attention, i won't see it ! 4:53 Left: 3 i see it strong, and the 5 a see it so faint. If i don't pay attention I could risk not seeing it! Right: I see a sort of 86 ! That's more of an 8 than 9 for me, and 6 is also there, but it's like the above 5 number saw on the left plate. 5:24 I see the upper red line pretty clearly! The bottom line it's 20 x more faint that the upper line, but it's there for me also :) Those glasses don’t help me that much, but: That 8 i didn't saw it at all, gets extremely faint on those glasses. The 5 gets even stronger. Then I see a faint 29 on the left, and the 74 on the right is super-obvious! Then the two of the "2"'s they get enhanced from faint to somehow faint, by inverting some colors. Collor game get's inverted althiugh the difficuly remains almost the same. All these being said: What kind of color view i have ??? 🤔🤔🤔

The Enchroma glasses are a scam proved in scientific studies which you must know about. Pilestone glasses are just as bad. All that's happening with these glasses is that part of the spectrum I believe in the boundaries between red and green and blue and green are cut out. This helps with the contrast between the colours but does not restore any colour vision. The videos of people crying like babies when they put the glasses on are scams.

Those who hear noises in their heads or see things without taking drugs, are sometimes called psychic, but most times they are just classified as crazy since these affect their behaviour. Hi! Actual colorblind here with consistent Protanomaly also known as Red Deficiency from the enchroma and other colorblind tests. I just want to make a small correction on timestamp 4:50 through 5:30. Being red deficient does not mean I cannot see red characters/traces, in fact; I am only able to see the numbers 3 and 9, and the trace on top. Being red deficient means that objects/traces that are truly red appear dark to me, hence I am able to see the numbers 3 and 9 and the upper trace because they have a very high contrast versus the background. Having said that, since I am hypersensitive to greens, everything else near the green spectrum are jumbled hence I cannot make out the numbers that are green and the trace... So the reverse is actually true than what is said in the video..

@@Slava_Russia-Wagner it took me up till my fourth year in college to realize that my professor was actually pointing using a red laser.. I always wondered which part of the presentation the professors would be referring to, and thought "gosh my friends are so smart, they know what ma'am is talking about'. Then I realized it was just because I was not seeing the red laser versus the bright background of the projector's light. Anyway, I had a labmate that is green deficient (deuteranomaly), and I tell you, they are also as confused as we are... XD

During my education at RIT in Rochester, we had a class on the Munsell color system. During the class, we each had a chip set (D15) of some hue and were tasked with placing them in order from one hue (lets say, orange-red) to the final chip (more red-orange). Between the first and last chip, we saw a significant change. However, between any two adjacent chips, the difference was enormously subtle. Besides the Munsell colors, this was a chance to plot statistical data as well as determine whether individuals had color deficiency. There is an app (game, I suppose) called "I Love Hue" that requires you to piece together a single or multiple range of hues. It can be very difficult in come cases as there can be a very subtle difference of adjacent hues. Even though I've determined my color recognition to be very good, "I Love Hue" is still very challenging.
I am a moderate deutan and the glasses made the bubbles mostly clear to me when I couldn’t read most of them before. I’m shopping for colorblind glasses and I’m excited to see what I’ve been missing out on!

I new I was colorblind because of the tests (I'm a nurse, and you have to do them before nursing school and any onboarding for a job). I can see color, but I flunk nearly the whole test. Great video Doc! I'm borderline color deficient myself, and this test is a real challenge for me, even though I did pass it last time for my flight physical. For some reason, the numbers show up much better and clearer on your video than in real life. I wonder why that is?

Doctor Eye Health yes, but did manage to pass a colour blind test where I managed to match the colours - shades as I couldn’t get many of the numbers on this type of test ( for a police eye exam many years ago! :-).

You nailed it with the glasses, I was trying to diagnose my 4yo as he mixes red and green often, he wasn’t thrilled and didn’t want to tell the numbers (he was ashamed of not seeing them I think). I got a little more participation from him with the line tracing ones (he could see the ones in top, not bottom) and then he got REALLY excited when you tried the glasses, confirmed he can’t see the numbers without them and asked me to buy him one of those.

I have done this test several times from different web-based sources, and it always comes back saying I have severe deuteranomaly. Pilestone recommended their "B" type lens, and I have a pair of clip-ons with those lenses. Amazing difference, but almost too much. Red's look very bright orange, and greens are very dark. So, I tried another set of clip-ons with lens type "A", and have been trying to decide which lenses to send back. Your video helped me make my decision. Without the lenses I can see hardly any numbers at all in the video. I was very surprised to learn that the numbers change based on the deficiency (number on the left vs number on the right), and I never saw anything like a line on the "trace the line" slides. With the "B" lens I can see almost every number correctly. Remarkable difference. The "A" lens doesn't really help me at all, and I will be returning that pair. You holding the lens in front of the camera doesn't really help me. I had to put on my lenses to really see the difference. I have discovered if I wear the lenses for a while my brain starts to correct the colors (red becomes less orange, and the sky goes back to blue (from orangish-blue). When I take them off after having worn them for a while the whole world goes green for a few minutes, but I quickly recover! It's been an interesting experience for me and still is. I see things that I never saw, and it's hard to describe the changes to those who do not have color deficiency. If I tell you a red stop sign now looks very orange, for example, I'm left wondering if what I'm calling orange is what you have always called red. I went through the test with my family some time back, and I told them what I saw on each slide. One of my daughters said she wanted to cry when she realized how I saw the world. No need for tears. It is what it is, and I'm glad to have finally found a way to see colors that I've struggled to see. If I make it through life with only this as a "disability" I will count my self as very fortunate. Autumn will be here in less than one month. I'm very excited to actually see vibrant red leaves on trees for the first time in my life! The Pilestone lenses are great, and the company has been good to work with as I made my selection. I've wondered about Enchroma, but decided to try Pilestone first due to price. Thanks for the video and for helping me make my decision on my lenses.
I remember going for a job interview for a job that required perfect colour-vision. I was waiting outside the room where someone else was being tested and the examiner came out and asked me to come in. The person in the room couldn't see the numbers properly but refused to accept he was colour-blind and was only convinced when I read the numbers off correctly.

I can see every single slide to indicate I have normal color vision. Yay! However, there were a couple that you said if you have normal color vision this should look "very" obvious, and they weren't sticking out any more than earlier ones so I'm not sure if that means anything... and the glasses at the end didn't do much other than put a pinkish tint on the number... no extra contrast was happening when I watched. Sir, in the Army when I wanted to go Airborne I was given this test and missed 10 out of 17. Later on I found a red filter worked fine for me. Now as an oil painter artist, when in doubt I find a girl to tell me what color. Works wonders! Back in the 70's I bought a pair of sunglasses that were Rose colored! Worked.

Are there any special lenses for color blindness (deuteranopia)? Or are there some precautions to be taken when buying sunglasses?
Well, dueternopia is tough to diagnose unless you have a Nagel anomaloscope. Dueteranomalie can benefit from some types of color blind glasses. Anything from enchroma to pilestone May help.
Not sure about the sunglasses precaution, maybe try a few colors at the store and inquire about road signs and traffic light colors

This is the best presentation on color deficiency I have ever heard, including from my eye care providers. I have some level of color deficiency and the glasses used at the end of the video are helpful. I will state that people must believe a person with this condition cannot see colors. That is simply not true. What it is more like is your brain not able to perceive small differences in color contrast. Relax, I see the traffic light 🚦 red, yellow and green just fine. Life is colorful and not like some Kodak Tri-X Pan photograph.

Same for me Bruce. I'm not aware of not seeing color other than during these tests. I can pick out red items from Green ones and so on.

Okay came here cause I think I got pranked. My friend showed me this test but I couldn't get any of them right and I took these before and I pass easily so I needed reassurance. Thankfully you show the last number 2 that only color blind ppl can see. Guessing my friend collected bunch of those and started pranking us. Speaking of color, you have rlly beautiful eye colors.
this is fun! so far, I've got them all correct . I came here because after my cataract surgery & subsequent lens implants, i can no longer distnguish between certain colors such as navy blue, black or charcoal grey. It's not a terrible thing. Just different for me.

This is amazing. Towards the end of the video, I was able to see the numbers very clearly. Without the filter, I had to put efforts to find the number and I was unsure if there is even a number on the paper but with the color filter, I saw the numbers perfectly. This is amazing. I am now going to try these glasses. Thank you so much for this video. I have been looking for some way to test these lenses before buying them and was sceptical if they would really work but now I see how they help.
