As a Floridian not having the title of the weirdest state offends me and the rest of Florida. We worked hard to gain that title lol
Don't worry, you'll win it back:)
FL is weird for all the wrong reasons tho not bc of opting out of daylight savings time
Voted yall one of the racist state

What an humorless video.
My mom went to Nepal once, and she was talking to someone there about daylight savings time, the person scoffed and said "Only Americans think that if you cut an inch off the bottom of a blanket and sew it back onto the top, you'll have a longer blanket."
nepal is a lot closer to the equator. day light savings are used in a lot of countries further up north
It works for the purpose it was made. It is supposed to save on electricity because of how some businesses operate.
Nepal lies between 30°N and the Tropic of Cancer, so it’s about the same as Florida, and in Florida we have daylights savings
Obviously the Germans think that way, too. In fact, there is currently an attempt in the EU to end daylight saving time, but there is a problem because the countries can't agree which time should be the "right" time.
@@swanpride yes, surprisingly it's mostly Germany and Austria that wanna abolish winter time and use dst all year long. Until the 1980s those countries actually didn't switch time, but France, Italy and Switzerland did. So in the 1980s Germany and Austria restarted switching times along the rest of Europe, long after they had forgotten Germany had initially started it.

I come from a long line of farmers. My grandfather used to say of DST, "Does the cow need to check her watch to determine she needs milking?" Farms work on the sun, not the clock.
Wait, isn't that an argument supporting DST? Its based on sunlight right?
@@alalalala57 I think he's saying farmers don't care what "time" you call sunrise.
@@fryape8342 Yep. Plants grow. Cows need milking. Pigs and other animals need feeding. Nothing in nature cares about a clock. Same goes with a farm. You get up before sunrise and work all day.
@@alalalala57 BTW, No 'time' is based on sunlight. A perfect example of why that's not the case is American Somoa and Somoa. AS is a US territory, Somoa is an independent nation. They lay on opposite sides of the international dateline so they're (by clocks) 24 hours apart but are separated by only a 10 mile strait. People there regularly travel back and forth and have double Fridays and double Sundays. Every year, people like to go to Somoa for New Years, then 24 hours later, all go to American Somoa for New Years. THAT's just how relative time actually is.
Yes. My cow checks her IPAD before agreeing to be strapped in. She's in a union, so.....
Not having to do daylight savings was by far my favorite thing about living in Arizona
Michigan voters voted to get rid of Daylight Savings Time. That was 4 years ago...we're still having to change back and forth. What about the will of the People?
As an AZ resident...when sunrise is already between 4:30 and 5:00 am in summer and it's already 85 to 90 degrees, why would I want "more" daylight? Already roasting. Nobody here wants daylight savings time, regardless of liberal or conservative status
Nobody ANYWHERE wants it, but they can't seem to give it up.
That does make perfect sense.
Dude, DST means you get up/to work one hour EARLIER. So sunrise would be between 5:30 and 6:00 and you can do stuff before it gets so hot.
YES! Thank you! they must have said, "we're doing Daylight Saving's now". "what's Daylight Savings?" "more daylight hours". "big nope for me" says AZ

Hi, Hawaii resident here-we’re doing just fine politically and physiologically, without daylight saving time.
As someone from Arizona I counter that we aren't an hour behind, we are an hour ahead. Something that "happens" at 8pm happened at 7pm here. We Arizonians have absorbed enough radiation from the sun to transcend time itself. You wouldn't understand.
Lol I'm half way there. Lived here for almost half my life now.
The radiation might be frying your brain.
That clears up a lot
How do you explain different timezones that were already hours ahead then?

As someone who's lived in AZ my whole life, I'd just like to point out that they didn't mention how, like, 30 days/year are 110° or higher. Up to 5 of those days are 115° or higher. Except in 2020, when we had 50 days of 110° or higher, and 13 days of 115° or higher. Raise your hand if you've burned yourself by leaning against a car!

Yeah, the only downside is needing to account for it on top of the rest of the time zone differences when trying to fit calls into business hours across the mainland. "Better question is, When am I"? Ok Abed...
When I first moved to Arizona 18 years ago, I thought that the rejection of DST was political. I quickly learned that rejecting DST is a practical matter. It gets really hot here in the Summer; the hottest hour of the day is 3 to 4 pm. Literally nobody is out in this heat. Workers with outdoor jobs typically start work at 5 am and are finished and gone for the day at 1pm. This is not the season to have backyard barbecues. If you had a referendum on the issue, the anti-DST position would win in a landslide regardless of the voters' politics. I have never heard anyone say that they wish we had DST. On the other hand, Spring and Autumn are typically beautiful and the weather is perfect for outdoor stuff. Winters are pretty mild, but definitely winterish.

Seriously, getting out of daylight saving time: the fact that a state in the US was able to do it pretty much surprises me, and here in Europe we keep "researching the possibility" of getting rid of it (mainly for the fact that it does not really provide the benefits the people in favor of keeping it like it is). As for farmers, they've more than once complained here that all their animals tend to be completely confused for all the machinery including the farmer and his personell suddenly being in the stables at a different time....
