  • Ahsoka broke open the right side of his mask, Obi-Wan broke open the left side. Both couldn't bring Anakin back, but Luke was able to completely take his mask off, bringing him back to the light. Very poetic.

    • And I understand now how Obi Wan could not believe that Anakin could never turn back to the light side. He truly thought Anakin had been consumed by evil and was dead while Luke could still sense his father's feelings and conflict. Obi Wan wasn't being merciless and hard hearted towards him as I had thought. He had simply shut off that part of himself that could have sensed Anakin due to what the evil side of Anakin(Vader) told him.

  • I feel like Vader telling Obi-Wan that he didn't kill Anakin, but Vader himself did, is the closest thing to kindness that Darth Vader is capable of now... whereas before he used Obi-Wan's regret and sorrow as weapons against him, à la "I am what you made me", he now finally allows Obi-Wan to let go of the guilt of having failed his best friend. Obi-Wan did everything he could for him, but Anakin's choices made it impossible to save him... and deep down, Vader knows it. It was never Obi-Wan's fault. A twisted, harrowing, yet somehow still touching moment. 🖤

    • Anakin's hunger for victory doesn't allow himself to give Obi-Wan credit for killing Anakin. Also, since he survived the duel, Technically, he was right. Vader killed Anakin. Which as of a New Hope, made Obi-Wan's chat with Luke correct...from a certain point of view of course.

    • I think its the "remaining anakin part" of vader that's telling kenobi that it isnt his fault and stuff, because for that brief moment, blue light shines on anakin's face, and becomes red again when he says "I'll destroy you".

    • You have to watch the dave filoni interview. It is kind of obi-wan's fault. Anakin needed a father figure, which qui gon was until he was killed. Look at the obi-wan in this series and compare him to the obi-wan as padawan of qui gon. Two completely different people. He was a cold, detached person then, and when anakin was at his most vunerable, he did not respond w/love and understanding. When anakin dreams of his mother being killed, he blows it off....wtf?? He knew he f**ked up and that is why he saying he is sorry for everything.

    • But that's the beauty of that conversation though, Obi-Wan sees Anakin's burnt face, he apoligizes for it but Vader does not blame him. Vader if anything takes the burden that weight on Obi-Wan through all this series, through all this time after Episode 3 away from him by telling him "he's not his failure", that he killed Anakin. And in a way, "from a certain point of view"...that's true. Anakin made his own choices, the wrong ones. He's responsible for his own faith. And one can even question if he's saying this proudly to Obi-Wan, or if somewhere down deep, Vader is openly telling Obi-Wan the fault is his.

In Anakin's instance this was Vader, notice i say persona not personality. Anakin is still in there, he never truly 'died'. He still held some respect and love for his old master deep down in the Anakin part of him, but you can see via the lighting when Vader fully suppresses any love he had for Obi Wan, as the red glow fully bathes his face, and the blue glow of Obi-Wan's lightsaber fades from his own face, representing the hope he had in saving Anakin fully fading away. Him leaving, is him giving up on Anakin, and realizing Darth Vader is the only one inside anymore. • An interesting thing I noted while watching the show in therm of symbolism. It's all about why the Imperial March was only played in the end. Basically what we are seeing is the final transition between Anakin and Vader, the complete fall. We can especially see symbolic elements during the last two duels between the two, the first where Vader burns Obi-Wan like he was burned on Mustafar and the second where he literally buries his past symbolic self by burying his old master. We see again that shifting duality and death in the scene where the mask is cut through and we see Anakin's face under the mask, the slice in it symbolizing the divide of the man at that moment. The blue light mirrors the last dying embers of the man giving peace to Obi-Wan by telling him basically that it isn't his fault, then the light shift to red and we see the absolute death of the hero, and only rage and Vader remains. Same with his voice, turning back to a more Anakin-like version, where he is more present than the voice modulator in tones, but the shift as he yells "Obi-Wan" twice, first less modulated toward Vader's machinelike sound and finally nearly all machine and warth. This is why the Imperial March only plays at the end, because during the rest of the show, there was still a part of Anakin in his actions, culminating with him fully assuming the role of Vader and forsaking Obi-Wan completely for Palpatine. I bet I missed elements, the symbolism of those scenes is INSANE.

It's not a perfect solution, but it's the Jedi path; to protect life, not to take it... after all, Anakin is apparently already dead. If he had killed him, Anakin would never have had the chance to be saved by Luke, while the Emperor might have simply replaced him with one of his many back-up enforcers. • Ngl I had chills because of how you can hear anakin and Vaders voice as he talks with the mask half off

  • Honestly when Vader starts to loose the fight I felt sorry for him especially during Obi Wan's cut to his back and his fall to the ground.

    • That's why it was such a great fight and scene! You root for Obi Wan to win but once he beats Vader you feel sorry for Vader, even though he murdered so many people...one of the best scenes in the Star Wars in my opinion. By the way, that cut to the back could have been a killing blow, but it was obvious Oni Wan didn't want to kill him and knew the fight was over once he destroyed Vader's breathing support. He only wanted to stop him so he wouldn't be able to follow him.

  • You see a hint of a smile when Vader says he killed Anakin. Maybe its just me, but I feel like I can see a hint of Pennywise from It in that smile. A perfect display of the twisted evil under the mask.

  • Obi Wan used Anakins moves against Vader, Showing that the master can learn from the apprentice while also showing how different Vader and Anakin truly are.

  • Waited years to see them slug it out, and as much as I'm more of an Empire guy seeing Kenobi bring an ass whooping was epic. The saber changing colour , the epic feel of the duel, the hurt in Kenobis eyes. Brilliant, epic scene. Series was a slow build at first but bloody hell that was awesome.

  • Vader’s scream is beautiful. I can hear Hayden Christensen, Matt Lanter, and James Earl Jones.l in it.!He’s screaming out for Obi-wan to come back and put him out of his misery. Now he has to go back to his misery at the hands of the Emperor.

  • Notice the smile Anakin gives when he says he killed Anakin Skywalker... Then it goes away when he's says he'll kill Obi-Wan. The subtlety is beautiful.

  • Can we take a moment to wonder what the grand inquisitor was thinking after picking Vader up knowing Vader could f him up.
