The meaning of this video is Suga confronting himself. Not his cultural past versus contemporary, but rather the two sides of himself as a creative artist. It is a war between his ambitious side, and his grounded side. Think about which side of him is most productive, creatively. It's his grounded side. But it was his ambitious side that pushed him to the heights that he's at now, where we can get to know him, and he's earned enough money personally to be able to put the money into making this video. So that's the war. And he wants his grounded side to win out in the end, now that his ambitious side has done a whole lot for him. He knows if he keeps up with his ambitious side as the primary motivator of his nature, it will remove him from his groundedness, and damage his creative productivity. So essentially, he is depicting his organic, natural, grounded self, killing off his arrogant, egotistical, greedy self. What's amazing about this video, for me, is how he takes the very creativity he is so concerned about to shape a story about a huge psychological and emotional war within himself, something that most people would keep hidden from others. He has courage, which is one of the primary qualities of a great artist. He's willing to show his worst side in comparison with his best side. Interestingly, he dresses up his worst side in the finest outfit with the most prestige and a special weapon and fight training, and contrasts that with his best side dressed in grungy clothing, with his only weapons his brain, his feelings, an old car, plus a few friends. This is the opposite of how most of us conceptualized our worst and best sides. We think of our best sides as the dirty parts of ourselves, rating nothing beautiful or fancy. We think of our best sides as the ones we will dress up best and live in the best homes with, after we achieved our best-side goals. Suga upends those concepts with a deeper understanding of how life actually works, and what is important in it. What an emotional story he is telling! What a psychological story he is telling! The man is a master.

Exactly!!! Many people don’t understand the spiritual symbolism behind this song and are horrified by the ending. He’s playing the old self (old ego self) and new self (reborn higher self). Killing the old ego self of materialism and worldly power and freed his new self (he says my time is worth more than money). I also thought it was interesting that the ego self was dressed impeccably and the new self was raw, but could it be any other way??! The ego likes to put on a grand show, a nice shiny polished mask to show off in front of others but it’s nothing but a false self and not the truth. The truth/true self is raw and doesn’t need those frills. In fact in the beginning you can see that there rap lines are like a dialogue between the old and new self- each one is trying to one up the other, and it’s a (rap) battle of the wills. There is a split in the mind and the ego self has got to go for the spiritual rebirth.
about the scar.. Usually Kings, royal bloods would never have these scars as they are "pure", "perfect" but the fact that he has a scar and still rose to be a king makes him the boss ☺️
Just clarifying that this is _not_ true in Korean history bc I've seen a lot of ppl mistake this as historic fact when it's more accurate to say it's part of a fan theory adopted from kdrama. Korean princes were required to have martial training as part of their formal education and even crown princes have gone to war (such as the prince Yoongi mentions in the MV--Gwanghae-gun, who fought off against Japanese invaders before taking the throne when his father fled). So, scars weren't something that could be easily avoided and there'd be a lot less assassinations going on if ppl only needed to be scarred to lose their right to the throne.

This is an exaggeration. His grandmother was not an Empress. He does come from the same clan as the last empress and probably has some relation to her, but even if his family were the only direct line descendants he has an older brother so he still wouldn't be king.

During the Joseon era classes were establish to show The Who was the importance of a person and their families. Like for instance royalty was always of course the top part of the chart, then the noble families and the doctors, merchants poets farmers and slaves were addressed in that order of importance and non-importance.
