Helldivers 2 news! Primary weapon balance makes no sense? Buffs and nerfs for primary weapons can seem random, but the balance devs are speaking out about their philosophy. Also, loadout variety i think is very strong - so the devs are nailing that, no longer do we have required meta builds.     • Slugger was top tier. Railgun was THE meta when it was first nerfed. Erupter was top tier. And crossbow wasn't meant to be a nerf but a change in role (also according to those who use it as a stealth weapon against bots, the velocity and stagger was quite the buff).

    • @@GreyShot254 Even when you have a chance to hit the weak spot, you spend like one mag on them. And it takes longer to change a clip than it takes to empty one. More often than not it feels like your're spending more time changing mags than actually shooting at things. You can call it whatever you like, to me that's not fun.

    • Yeah, my dominator is clearly the same as it was at launched. My Arc Blitzer is unusable. My recoilless rifle got no buffs. Plasma punisher doesn't feel any better than when it was first added. Flamethrower has gotten no buffs. Incendiary breaker is still in a weak state. The dev's philosophy is clearly just to keep everything equally bad, and just nerf whatever is decent to be at the same level as all the bad options.

  • If the developers want us to use our strategems against bigger enemies, then they need to greatly reduce the cool down. Most of these items are on a 2-4 minute cooldown, some are much longer. And then, there are levels in which the weather stops you from using stratagems. There are modifiers that take away one strategem slot. there are modifiers that make orbital strikes far less accurate, and modifiers that increase the cooldown and the call in time. This makes the game objectively less fun.

    • You know in Helldiver one we kinda solve that by allowing us to take the same strategems the same time for all four slots. Idk why they removed it but I think it will help if they allow us to do so again.

    • orbital rail cannon is a prime example, its clearly meant to take out big things like chargers, it doesnt one shot bile titans and it has like a 5 minute cooldown. great concept but no place for it in the current game. i would rather they make the harder difficulties truly difficult and hectic with swarms and swarms of enemies and then have the stratagems and weapons to deal with that than have everything be weak but then they keep making the game easier to compensate.

    • Cuz they need the game to last. Shooting hordes is the whole gameplay loop pretty much. Weapons need to be specialized and have their own moments to shine so we have a reason to not use just one jack of all traits and so the game doesn't get boring

    • Did you not understand the video? The ricochet had nothing to do with the eruptor's shrapnel, and the gun was not envisioned to be able to one shot a charger, they changed it to make it MORE like what they envisioned

    • If the eruptor does not have its shrapnel aoe explosion it just feel like a worse anti material rifle. even the dominator feels better then it. I'm not sure what its place is anymore. feels a little pointless.

    • lmao arrowhead need to sort out their team altogether tbh. their CM team is a mess, balancing team don't have any idea what they're doing, core gameplay is working, but keep crashing... i stopped playing several weeks ago. the game was fun, but after some time it's tiring to bring out the same loadout again and again, redoing the same/similar mission again and again. still a great game, definitely got my $40 worth out of it, but time to move on they need to learn from ghost ship on how they do deep rock galactic. sure, they aren't perfect, but they surely know how to make a game "fun". i still come back to it time for time again even though i don't have to (got all my upgrades and cosmetics) because the game is just fun.

    • Yea everyone been distracted by sony issue last few days (rightly so) and taken their eye off the huge actual gameplay issue which is the updates, not that every decision has been bad (flame, AMR and laser adjustments come to mind) but the last 2 especially are taking the game in the complete wrong direction. Enemy buffs and weapon nerfs on the same patch after promising a bunch of fixes people were actually looking for is tone deaf af and incompetent

  • "rely on support and stratagems for heavies" yeah I'll get right on that after the entire team has used their entire repertoire and 3 more bile titans decide to spawn with an escort of 12 spewers, 4 chargers, and the endless flood of chaff. When I dive with randoms and they end up ragequitting on 7+ because their weapons are all shit i don't exactly feel like I'm having fun

The sickle used to be a hoard weapon and I could use the quasar canon to kill the chargers now I’m dying hunters all the time it’s not when a weapon is sure you want to keep the different. You don’t want people to play the same thing over and over again and make other weapons better. You don’t have to Nerf the good weapons that people love and like to play on.

    • rely on stratagem is quite an excuse considering how long ass cool down most of them is....people sticking with eagle-1 500kg, airstrike and napalm for everything because they are doing their job perfectly. but it doesnt help with mission that have 50% and 100% cool down on stratagem and -1 slot

  • Just hopped on to try the Eruptor is awful. Shooting medium armor and not killing any of them when it killed multiple before. What's the point of extremely slow firing low ammo and mag size when it cannot kill anything but small enemies with one hit?

  • If they want primaries to be for chaff and support weapons and stratagems to be for heavies then it is very contradictory that there exists support weapons and stratagems that do nothing to heavies. You wouldn’t use the Stalwart to kill a Charger and you literally can’t use it to kill a Bile Titan. The Airburst Rocket Launcher is made for chaff clearing not killing heavies. The Eagle strafing run and Orbital Airburst Strike does nothing to heavies. The Eagle Napalm Strike is specifically for burning bug chaff to death. When are we supposed to not bring heavy killing stratagems and support weapons to play these chaf killing ones when they don’t give us any primary weapon choices?

    • I know why. Because AH thinks the game as a MANDATORY team play game. They don't want us discovering a good balanced loudout that 1 helldiver can use and deal with every enemy. So, if you want to clear heavies, your friend should clear chaff and another one clear medium. I don't agree with that way of thinking, but explains why the F they keep making our gameplay more sufferable.

    • "We don't like meta" Proceeds to make Divers to always use the Quasar, Rail Cannon Strike, 500kg on every loadout because there's no other way to clear the amount of heavies that 7 upwards throws at you. The Recoiless is not even a blip in the radar because the long reloading (till the animation cancel made it better lol)

They keep making solo helldive impossible while a full team can actually end up somewhat boring with the right map and players. There is clearly a problem with the philosophy behind the design, and the players, having played it for hundred and thousands of hours, may actually have a better design philosophy in mind.

  • I don’t think they need to be as ruthless as they are with nerfs because: 1. It’s a pve game 2. They are and will be introducing new and harder enemies which helps to counter metas and power creep

  • Them saying detonating the shot under the enemy is an exploit it really puts it into perspective how twisted their view of the game is, and sure it's viable, but so is playing the game with my feet, but that doesn't make it fun.

    • Probably shouldnt assume. The detonation caused a suck you into the explosion effect....using that to kill things could have been the exploit....maybe it was inpact damage from that killing chargers

    • Tbh, Everytime he spoke up about something that got "balanced" it got overwhelming negative responses from the community. Clearly his decisions and changes have been very poor for the game and the community has been vocal about it. I really believe arrowhead should assign someone else to his position.

  • The HD2 balance team is so weird about finding players coming up with cool and interesting strategies and calling them “exploits” or “brainless”, like with the eruptor shot or the rail gun charger leg from launch. Then weeks later they say “here, we killed a viable way deal with this problem, have an even more odd or brain dead way to deal with it (like the change to make rockets one shot charger heads)

    • I have never understood why they lowered the health to the charger head so the rocket could one shot it. The alien. designed to charge into things with a head that's the most armored part of the body...and thats its weakest point..makes no sense. The leg has joints. its has to move. its gonna have less armor. kinda made sense to take out a leg.

    • @@Wardukez To be fair, the rocket launchers are anti armor by design (hell in EATs case it´s literally in the name), so them blowing a chargers head clean off is reasonable, even if it might require a tweak or two to be a bit more challenging. It´s the fact that they are pigeon holing people into making it the only quick option. Imo there should be multiple ways to deal with heavies fast (considering they throw a bunch of them at a time at higher difficulties), with every option having a different level of cost effectiveness and skill requirement. So that you can either choose a rocket to headshot a charger, use a heavy single shot weapon to break off a leg or focus fire it with a medium/light pen weapons until the armor breaks.

    • eh. i would like to see only 1 or 2 ways to deal with them. they dont pose any risk. easy to deal with. they need buffed like alot. I dont want primaries being able to kill them.. we dont need multiple ways to kill them when they can already be 1 shot. idk. You can rocket them. You can railgun the leg still. you can dominator there butt untill it blows off which they will bleed to death. You got the rail cannon. orbital lazer. exo mech. flamer, Still alot of ways to deal with them..to many imo.

    • @@Wardukez Railgun takes like 4-5 shots to kill one and forget the Titans... also a fresh reminder that you're not dealing with just one charger, it is usually 2-4 at higher difficults PLUS an entire horde of misc enemies... even if you split the roles you still needs AT to deal with chargers.

    • @@Tamachii12 as a level 150 i get that. the railgun is still 3 charged to the head. and 2 to remove leg armor. Titans the railgun wont do anything. it deals with everything else efficiently but that, is the downside.. And im agreeing you should have a dedicated person to deal with chargers and titans. I personally bring a javelin with me on helldives cause i play that role. i deal with all chargers and titans for my randoms so they can clear trash.

  • I look back at HD1, and as much as I love 2, it's INSANE how much more appropriate to the task at hand EVERYTHING felt back then. There's no way you would spend 30-90 seconds running around trying to get a single elite mob off your ass in HD1, even before you purchased the DLC kit. Where did the team that came up with such an exquisite toolset go?!

    • SERIOUSLY YES. I never played 1 but this is a big problem for me. And now I’m getting teammates that are ignoring enemies or runnning from them themselves without even trying to use anything. They just run as if it’s all gonna stop if they get far enough. Imagine 5 titans suddenly being infront of you and 2 more spawning in when you come to check on your teammates shooting like crazy only to see it’s like 1 guy fighting for his life and the other two are just running around in circles.

    • @@nattly6340 You can one shot chargers with rocket launchers to the head tho. Using an extremely slow and cumbersome primary to make an angled shot underneath the armored enemy, where the shrapnel tears apart the squishy bits is high risk high reward, I'd say.

    • @@falseblackbear3553 it's still very usable. It may not have quite as much aoe but still works well. If you wanna try another weapon that is shining a bit more now the plasma punisher is great.

  • The whole balancing philosophy with primary weapons being intended for normal enemies while stratagems are for large enemies works great as long as you're fighting the bots. Since the frequency of those enemies fits the cooldown of the stratagems. But when you're fighting bugs, you might see 3 charges on every nest you clear. Or multiple bile titans. You simply can't use your stratagems often enough to deal with all these threats.

    • Yes you can. I play exclusively on 7+ and have a dozen different loadouts I use just for the bugs. You people will spend your strats frivolously and then panic. I'll bullfight the charger and take it down with a Punisher and some Thermite nades and save my Orbital Rail for the Titan. Don't blame your shit tactics and lack of strategy on the devs. You're the idiot.

  • It really does feel like the balance team either don't play their own game (or play at a low difficulty level), and just nerf things by looking at numbers on a screen. Primaries are supposed to be just for chaff but that's the problem: even against chaff a lot of these Primaries are either mid/inefficient or straight-up garbage, and it's made worse with the significant reduction of the ammo economy across the board. Medium armour enemies in particular have been an issue for a while in terms of how many rounds they can soak, with something like the Adjudicator (which is supposed to be good vs. those enemies) requiring a whole magazine dump into a Brood Commander just to tickle it. Weapons like the old Breaker Spray & Pray and the current Liberator Concussive are so bad that they shouldn't even be in the game, they're a waste of time and pixels. We won the war against Sony but I think we're losing a lot of the fun in the game with these last couple of patches IMHO. Some of the spawn rates for the bugs also need to be looked at again. The Hunter spam is often times oppressive with their dumb headshot mechanics and combined with the mediocre primaries, the increased patrol rates in general, and the still questionable armour balance...I find fighting the bugs supremely unfun right now, and the game crashes don't help either for that matter. I think I preferred it when there were 10+ Bile Titans and Chargers spawning in on a 7+. At least that was cinematic AF, even if the squad did wipe. Now we just get death by a thousand leaps from overgrown fleas.

I need completely different loadouts for a close range slugfest against the pouncing bug army vs the medium range shootout with the bile bug army. Taking the wrong one is usually a bad experience.

  • Bile spewers are medium enemies, Eruptor could 1 shot them when aimed at right spot, right now you sometimes need full mag and they're still walking, that's worse damage than Liberator on the most tanky part of the bug.

  • Here’s a thought. Make guns good enough that you can successfully complete the missions with just your weapons. And support weapon are used for “support”. Pretty much the balance of the game makes the support weapons the true primaries.

But I've switched to the Breaker Incendiary altogether, because it just offers much better waveclear, and I can use a Railgun or AMR for medium armor priority targets.

    • I play on lvl 9 all the time with recoilles or machinegun and eat with default shotgun and revolver and it's more than enough. Bring 2 orbital stikes 120 and 380 for nests. Never had any issues if team know what to do. Issues began if ppl start shooting every patrol on the map which results in a very bad situation with ton of enemies spawning. Like just leave the area fffs

There is stalwart/ammo backpack build to clear horder of mook enemies. autocannon for dealing with bile spewers is also very viable. For primary/secondary any things is working unless maybe default pistol. I would say that they need to add armors with like fire dmg reduction coz setting urself on fire and then died in few seconds is not very fun. btw the arc thrower is still op as hell, just stagger machine. The thing is that u just go in group of 4 and support eachother, not going full solo after spawn

  • I think that Arrowhead should "roleplay" weapon tweaks. Instead of describing these things as patches, they can describe these as changes to production, experimental designs, cost-cutting measures by Super Earth, etc. These things happen in real life when new weapons are introduced to the battlefield. Yes, it would be the same thing, but it would be a fun way of framing these tweaks, and be a cheeky way of "explaining" missteps.

  • Why do we jump to "endlessly" buffing weapons? The whole point of buffs is to get weapons to a point where they can statistically and practically perform well. What's happening is that they're balancing the fun out of the game's arsenal. The Eruptor being able to clear large areas of enemies and close factory/ bug holes was bc it has the lowest fire rate in the game and you'd need to supplement it w/ a support weapon or teammate. Now it's a worse Scorcher that can close spaweners. The slugger had no use case over the Scorcher outside of halting the chainsaw devastator squads until they were dead. It already took 5-8 shots at a walker's leg joint to down rather than the Scorcher's 1-2 at the body The Scythe still does less than 1/2 of the Sickle's damage w/ the same exact uptime. It seems liker they have no idea what the practical breakpoints are & are stuck balancing for either perfect accuracy or pre-spawn increase difficulties.

    • I was wonerding that, too. I am one of the very few persons who played the crossbow and during my playtime with it, I never encountered another player using it. It is also not really strong in most situations and medium armored enemies are already a pain to fight against. I just liked its feel and the challenge to manage the bullet drop. I was completely baffeled when I read the patchnotes and found out they made it even weaker.

  • The issue is starting to be how they can make new weapons distinct without making them overpowered or underpowered. Personally I think its absurd to tell people to rely on stratagems, IE support weapons, when they have a nearly 6 minute+ cooldown with the exception of the EATs. I certainly don't want primaries capable of dealing with heavy units in seconds, but you have to be able to do *something.* Oftentimes stratagems capable of dealing with heavies quickly and effectively are on a long cooldown. So its up to your support weapons. What happens if you die? You're crippled and basically just running away while you wait for an orbital to come off CD, *OR* you've gotta do some desperate play to get your support weapon back, OR you have to wait for its absurdly long cooldown. And meanwhile, the game KEEPS SPAWNING HEAVIES. Objectives that need you to stay put for a few minutes can death spiral VERY quickly. Thank god the 'skill issue' gang isn't here right now because that doesn't help anything.

  • The eruptor nerf doesnt seem intentional. The explosive weapons category right now clear all medium sized enemies and having the eruptor also dig into heavy size mobs made the stalwart and machine gun entirely viable. It was beautiful because you would still need some really big stratagems to the heaviest enemies. As a solo diver the ability to be a hybrid build with options keeps the game fun for me

    • The original ammo was 12 but in reality 6. It took 2 ammo to shoot and so the 2nd patch was correct. This latest one of eruptor sucks making it almost useless to use. I'm going back to breaker.

No. I got to the point where I could maybe get a case or 3 if I used everything, sometimes the Eruptor isn’t good for everything, not sure how they don’t understand that, but now, I’ve had a few games where I’ve ran out of ammo…for minutes…and there’s none to be found, my team might have really needed ammo and I took over making shots. And this is for any ammo using weapon. So…well that’s a problem obviously lol. But like the rest of the community yes, idk what they’re doing with all these ammo cap drops. Ones that don’t really need ammo, sure, fine. But most of those weapons are weak for obvious reasons so sometimes everyone needs ammo, should be weapons really specifically designed for (primaries mind you) for helldives and hordes.

    • I have been playing HD1 since day one. At level 6, one should get an anti tank weapon/strategem. Get a backup plan if one cannot get that weapon back or the stratagem is on cool down. You must plan accordingly for all likely scenarios like fellow gamers steal or temporary use your anti tank weapon. Deal with it accordingly.

  • I feel that overall there is general feeling that weapon balance is not going into a good direction. Also why should the community continue to get excited about new war bonds, to only have Arrowhead to tweak (downwardly tune) weapons a few weeks later. It has happened with every war bond to date and with no end in sight. Also there is some concern they are balancing the game against flawed data (PS5 bug, host lobby bug, DoT bug, weight sole play over group play etc).

  • I cannot understand what in the blue hell these people are thinking with all these nerfs. Particularly the ones that nerf magazine size or the total number of magazines you can carry with a weapon. I'm starting to feel they don't play their game and instead are doing spreadsheet-based nerfs, basically if players use too much of any weapon then nerf it. The Eruptor is SINGLE SHOT, takes a LONG time to reload after EVERY SHOT and if you shoot stuff that's next to you, you take damage as well. So WHY would you reduce the number of mags it has, it's not like you can spray and pray with it anyway. This type of nerfs just causes more instances where you literally run out of bullets and then can only run away and wait to be able to call a resupply. That is NOT fun gameplay. 13:32 100% BULLSHIT. They nerfed shield and railgun JUST TO STOP PEOPLE USING THEM. They literally went "you're not having fun the right way" and destroy a whole loadout. You know why it was bullshit? Because then, after they introduced MORE POWERFUL armor penetrating weapons (e.g. Quasar cannon, etc.) they REBUFFED the shield and REVERSED the railgun nerf by adding back its armor penetration. So there was NOTHING WRONG with the weapon or the shield, they just did it to screw over people who were using that combination. This is the primary reason my review of Helldivers has been negative for a long time now, way before the recent Sony scandal and will continue to remain that way. I used to play way more but every time I find some setup I enjoy it gets nerfed so the game just doesn't feel fun for me anymore. It's not just me, I used to have 5-6 friends I constantly played with and now none of them are playing anymore.

    • The Eruptor was my baby! Closing bug holes, helping clear out bile spewers, broods and stalkers and chaff. Being able to potentially take out a charger in one shot if placed correctly. 😭😭 Now I have to use multiple shots just to take out the same enemies. This is an issue when you already have limited ammo and a slow rate of fire. It was a weapon that had a very specific role. You didn't use it to get tons of kills but you were the ultimate support squad mates.

  • In my opinion, the recent change to the Eruptor to compensate for the lose of the shrapnel is a bit too much of a negative. Its slow rate of fire and total ammo capacity make it a worse version of the Plasma punisher. To make the weapons feel a bit more balanced, the Eruptor should have a bigger AOE with less damage drop off, keep the rate of fire, but what is killing the damage for certain targets is the drop off. That way it can excel at range and damage where the punisher can excel at faster rate of fire and more ammo

  • I remember when Jar 5 had 300 damage, that -25 damage nerf I could really feel that. hive tyrant and brood commander seem to take more hits to kill. And hunter survive more 1 shots than when it was 300 damage, surviving 1 shot...why is it necessary for hunters to survive more 1 shots? Its not like the jar 5 have much ammo for it either, with all the sway, reloads. I just dont understand.

Our top-attack option is roulette on whether it locks and too slow to be viable above 7, especially when large enemies can just slide around to protect the glowing spots faster than you can sprint.

    • I've lost a number of helldivers from the time the enemies of humanity hardened their armor resulting in more ricochets to now when the hyper velocity self forging frag jacket on the Eruptor round was removed in favor of more effective and cheaper additional HE filler. Of course I'm still losing helldivers to being overrun, and I need to requisition even more ammo. But Super Earth knows best.

  • Magazine size was not reduced on the Eruptor, it's always been 6 shots. It was reduced from 12 mags down to 6. The shrapnel was not changed originally, it was the ricochet update that made the shrapnel fire back at you, resulting in your death. If the reversed the ricochet changes, which weren't needed in the first place? The shrapnel wouldn't kill you, Eruptor wouldn't be broken. I've been using the Eruptor since the warbond was released, being extremely effective on everything bug, even decent on titans if your support/strats were on cool down.

  • Calling the old skillshot tech on the Eruptor an "exploit" seems like...a bit of horrible strong wording lol. I think that's simply just not what that word means. I'd unironically prefer power creep over what we have now, people say "oh they don't nerf everything, look at this 20 buffs they did for all these weapons!!!!" then the buffs are just very slight damage increases to weapons that end up still being useless trash because they NEED waaaay more than that. Bonus point: If they want us to use supports and stratagems to deal with heavy units, make the Stalwart and Machine Gun primary weapons already, seriously.

  • In my tests de eruptor went from one shoting medium enemies (all except chargers and titans, spewers take 2 to the body) with a shot to the head along with smaller enemies in range, to taking 3 head shots to take down a hive guard (armored head bug) without killing the smaller bugs around. Basically, you still need to rack each shot for a second, before firing the next one, but you can't take down medium enemies effectively and the smaller ones also take 1 shot each, and since you don't deal good aoe anymore, you are better off not using it there. Tl;dr: It now sucks to kill individual things because each shot takes too long to load, amd can't do crowd control, because it's explosion is too weak

  • What they need to do is change philosophies because even if another weapon gets like a 5-10% buff, thats going to create a new meta anyway. All these nerfs make getting the warbond pointless cause they're gonna get nerfed in 2-3 weeks anyway. If this was COD, then I'd agree, nerf and buff as much as you can, but since we're working as a team here, we need more bullets and firepower to bring more freedom! (Stratagems need a buff too! More powerful bombs= more democracy spreaded)

We have specialised weapons like the Eruptor, that get their specialties stolen. Simultaneously we get buffed enemies, increased spawns (even more so the less people are in a mission, fck solo or duo players I guess). But no, rather make every weapon crap and unfun to use.   • The bigger problem is: on higher levels the amount of medium and large enemies is so high that using stratagems doesn't always work. If you miss one stratagems or it doesn't kill e.x. a titan it's pretty much death. The constant slow of smaller enemies makes it also very hard to evade and breaking fights is near impossible as well without using stratagems you need to kill on objectives on later levels. I don't see how this helps balancing the game tbh. Take turret stratagems for example, they die so far even if you throw them at max range since you get swarmed from all sides that the chance is pretty much 50/50 if you call it down. I don't know maybe give it a small shield in the first 19 seconds or something. Like this, strategic or tactical planning is not possible.

  • The CB-9 change was actually more of a buff than a nerf; it's now easier to one-shot headshot devastators at 40-60m thanks to the better arc from the faster velocity, while the increased stagger keeps them at bay if you do miss the headshot, and though the amount of clips was reduced, the ammo economy overall is now much better. Eravin actually finds it to be one of the best primary options now, right alongside the DCS and Scorcher.

  • I've been using Erruptor almost exclusively on Helldive, and never even tried to kill chargers with it. I don't think it suppose to kill them in one-two shots. The main "tech" of the Erruptor is that it is the only primary that can reliably close bug holes and fabricators! But not being to one-shot mid enemies sucks, and they need to buff it's bullet damage.

Eruptor got half its mags removed, its damage falloff on the explosion increased, then they took away the shrapnel pieces and gave us a flat 40 damage increase (=1 shrapnel piece) but didnt realize the falloff on the explosion was going to still be awful. And THEN they changed the shrapnel mechanic on the eruptor making it shit.   • It sounds to me like some of the nerfs to guns like the Eruptor may still not be a fully intentional nerf. One thing I’ll never understand in shooter gaming that are PvE, is why development studios always seem to naturally feel a need to nerf things. Balance in any shooter is good, but especially in PvE. I think most gamers would agree that if a gun or overall weapon balance is to lean one way or the other we would all prefer it leans more overpowered in favor of the player. Sure it can make the game too easy for a time but that’s usually more fun than things feeling too hard or having too many weapons that feel ineffective.

Cause it is easier to do that than buff everything to the exact same level, overshoot something, then buff everything to that new level, overshoot again, repeat; and then have to buff all the enemies cause everything is overtuned. It is important to note in PvE that the devs designed each enemy; they could have given it more health from the start, or given it less health; they picked a specific value around some design goal, and that design goal usually persists even after weapon changes. Players meanwhile naturally do not have the same design goal for the enemy as the devs. Also nerfing makes it easier to switch player behavior to figure out how other guns compare. If everyone continues using the gun they are used to; the devs might have difficulty figuring out how other guns preform. You can nerf a popular weapon, watch what the players switch to, get a better idea of what weapons need buffed or what buffs weren't enough; and you can always buff the popular weapon up to the same level at a later date.

  • You can buff weapons without buffing just damage (stagger, mag size, fire rate, penetration through small enemies, dot effects etc.) Players are looking to have fun these effects and techs are fun to master. Then we get new stuff that we'll also want to master. The devs are making it hard to like certain weapons in fear of it getting nerfed directly or indirectly.

  • Weapons are not the only thing that suffer from balance issues. A majority of the stratagems like the turrets for example are practically unusable on higher levels due to various factors (for turrets it is because they have a long cooldown and can very easily be taken out by enemies without doing anything). Another factor is the balance between various player numbers in a mission, where lower player counts in missions lead to drastically increased difficulty after the last major balance update which increased patrols by 50% for solo players for example.

    • Around the first balance patch the railgun has been in a very niche use case. It used to be really good and consistent. Very versatile. Now it takes a lot of time to use where anything below almost max unsafe charge before self explosion is borderline useless. To destroy a leg of a charger used to be one semi full charge shot. Now it takes two full ones. Also the charge speed was changed and made it a lot slower for charge speed. So it lost damage, versatility, and effective use cases all across the board. Its downsides in a horde shooter are massive and then gutting it makes no sense. This is from my use experience on 9 difficulty cause that's all I play

  • The Eruptor worked JUST fine before the ricochet mechanic was introduced. The ricochet mechanic seems to be programming that directs rounds towards players if the rounds hit heavy armor. This would make sense that this broke the Eruptor because if it's a percentage based program, a significant number of projectiles would be directed towards friendlies. They need to dump the ricochet mechanic, it's dumb and doesn't make sense that the rounds comes back with enough force to penetrate armor after colliding and spending energy on a target. It is _not_ realistic, just another way to add RNG death to the game.

  • This guy obiously never finished a game in dif 9. The eruptor was quite nice to kill spewers and brood commanders while the rest of the team was dealing with the chaff. Now it does not do anything and he is like "Its gud weapon". Getting 3 rounds from the breaker mag is 1 thing, making a weapon bad is another. And let's be real here. The eruptor sharpnel was killing you or your teammates... Okay. Eagles, orbitals, flamethrowers and a lot of other stuff was, is and will kill you probably at greater rates than the dreadful sharpnel -.-

  • These nerfs are not good for AI bugs and bots. They would be better for team death match or something. The balancing is trash. Not to mention the randomness at times when you have bile titans all spawning multiple times at once then the rest of the bug team are after you and nothing in your arsenal is good enough anymore. Or on cooldown. If we have a long wait time then the massive AI should have a delay until our strats are back.

    • They do... That's what localization confusion increases. A breach will only call in so many enemies, then you have like 2 minutes before the next one. It's not the devs fault people constantly retreat into patrols and run around like chickens with their heads cut off for 2 minutes until the next breach instead of either killing everything or retreating carefully. You're just not good at the game. That's ok, you can play on easier difficulties. It's ok to play on easier difficulties if you find that more fun

  • It's ironic that their concept has been "primaries are for fodder hordes and supports and stratagems are for heavies." AND YET! The change they made to the Eruptor has made it more viable against heavies and practically ineffective against fodder hordes. I think they're trying to sort things way too cleanly and it's hurting the game. Their idea is "Primaries for fodder and mediums, stratagems and Supports for mediums and heavies." with the reality being that primaries clear fodder and struggle with mediums and stratagems and supports clear mediums and only a handful of them actually can handle heavies in an efficient manner. They need to stretch that ideal further. It should be Primaries can kill anything, but you're going to be spending way too much time trying to deal with a heavy with your primary and support and stratagems can kill anything, but their best platform is heavy clearing, some clearing out a lot more than others clearing out 1 really REALLY good. Yes, the game is supposed to be difficult, but it's also supposed to be fun. Sitting on Hellmire waiting for the fire tornadoes to stop for 10 minutes while patrol after patrol after patrol keeps running up to harass me and burn to death isn't fun. Having to sit and wait for an Ion Storm to pass to address a charger is not fun. Having to wait until a jammer is dealt with to deal with a hulk parade is not fun. Those make the game difficult, not fun. Having ways to either deal with the threat or give a better chance of survival during these mandatory arbitrarily enforced times of not playing the game while playing the game would be a lot more fun. You only have so many grenades to get you out of jail if they're even the kind that can do so. Yes, there is skill involved, but making the game unplayable because you want to try out a new gun that literally is so inept at being a weapon that it struggles against basic fodder is an open admission that you're adding s*it content to this game to fluff the warbonds.

  • Whenever I see people echoing the "only buff, never nerf" mindset I just look at what happened to Borderlands 3. The community flipped out about some small nerfs early on and the devs way overcorrected by only buffing everything into the stratosphere for the rest of the game's lifetime, which ended up ruinning the fun of starting a new playthrough because every piece of trash that dropped was able to one shot damn near everything in the game. They even went so far as to constantly give global droprate buffs to the point where endgame drops were popping out of literal piles of shit to where a player would exit the tutorial with seven copies of the only guns they'll ever need for the rest of a playthrough.

  • The railgun/backpack early meta was mostly because at the time 90 percent of the weapons just didn't work properly. Had the game launched with all of the weapons working properly I don't think the railgun meta would have gotten as popular as it did.

  • What the community wants is a fun-to-use variety of weapons that does not feel weak or underwhelming. Ultimately we players FEEL instead of calculating things from the ground up. It would be nice if I could see players getting into missions with a wide variety of primary and secondary and choice of strategems. Which, to be honest, the current state of the game is doing mid and approaching a bad direction (By the dev team hitting the top pick weapon instead of seeing what's wrong with the other weapon). Weapons need not be OP, as long as the player feels good and live the fantasy of playing it. I give a good example: Earth Defense Force, lots of the weapons there are actually not the best (Some are even meme), but many of them feels good to use, and are contributing to the fight the player is experiencing.

  • I'm surprised the eruptor could one shot the charger. Granted I mostly used it for bots and shooting at the feet of a few basic bots was a good way to clear a few close around it. I understand the devs wanting a variety of primaries being used, but with only so many medium armor penetrating choices and hard hitting guns to use, some primaries need to be great/ amazing for the harder difficulties. Looking forward to seeing if the next warbonds sub machine gun will be a good or better option with the ballistic shield or not.
