Civil War sites in North Carolina often go overlooked . . . but not today as Garry Adelman makes his first visit to Historic New Bern to explore the New Bern Civil War Battlefield Park.
The American Battlefield Trust preserves America’s hallowed battlegrounds and educates the public about what happened there and why it matters. We permanently protect these battlefields for future generations as a lasting and tangible memorial to the brave soldiers who fought in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Civil War.
Bucket list. Looks like a beautifully preserved battlefield.
Thank you so much another battle field to visit
One in Kingston also it's where pickett execued some soldiers
I felt so connected to the battle just by virtue of the earthworks and being able to walk in and among them when I visited this battlefield. It was the easiest interpretation of any battlefield I’ve visited due to the efforts of the preservation. Very well done!
Another great informative video. Thank you. Travel safe Gary.
I thoroughly enjoy pausing on each photo, then studying it in its entirety. Thanks for such informative videos.
Thanks Garry for the short Tour on the New Burn Battlefield . 💯👍👊
Another fantastic video! Thanks Garry.
Thank you, Garry!!
WOW! Wonderful history and video again.
Really appreciate these videos for people who can't get there! Great work as always. TY
Thanks for posting this! My 4x Great Grandfather Henry M Capper lost his leg as a result of this battle.
love all the bears around town.
Great video!
Have to agree with all you have said. New Bern battlefield is a pleasant walk and great to explore. The town is nice, with friendly folks and great food.
It really is great. We spent several hours there. You can take one or all of the trails & we saw everything. It is a quiet place, not a lot of traffic, so just walking through the tree-covered paths, looking at the swamps brings flashes of how dreadful it was for both sides. We stayed at a lovely B&B in New Bern which is a few miles n. of this site. There are plenty of them & the town is full of historic sites. Really worth it, if you are around NC.
These short, but oh-so-informative, videos are appreciated!
Thank you!
Wartime NC Governor, Zebulon Vance was the commander of the 26th NC there at New Bern! Very cool, I don’t know it was preserved!
I live not too far from there now. Will have to check it out!
Great preservation efforts to maintain the trench works!
Thanks for the video! I've been to New Bern several times for vacation, but never knew this was here. Next time I'm in the area I will have to go visit. Fun fact, New Bern is where Pepsi was invented. It is also where author Nicholas Sparks lives.
I used to live in New Bern, 4 houses from the Palace. Was a Civil War house on George St. Right next to the Stamford house. Great town and the home of Pepsi. Hopefully you get to check the town out. So much to see and do there.
Thanks for the video. The battlefield park looks great.
Another awesome video, Garry. Really pretty battlefield park. Thank you for the tour.
Awesome
Great to learn about another battle. Looking forward to seeing it.
Thank you
Great job on the video! Thanks
Please eventually come to Wilson's Creek and Pea Ridge!! Love your stuff guys.
One of my favorite places in NC
I’ve been there, a real hidden gem
Fantastic!
The Third Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry served in New Bern in late 1862. My 2nd great-grandfather's regiment.
I didn't even know that was there. I knew about Ft Macon, the historic district of NB, but some how I missed this.
Great video! Hope to get you to Ft Pocahontas one day, My former reenactment group Charlotte Artillery was placed about where highway 70 cuts through the battlefield
New Bern, Pepsi was invented here!
I live just a few miles where Col. Vance and later Governor Vance was born. He helped organize the 26th NC
Was there many years ago. Be wary of mosquitos!
✌
If you go, it's pronounced newbern (1 word) by the locals, not New Bern (2 words).
The APCWS later known as "Battlefield trust" really did a poor job with their battlefield acquisition of the Brices Crossroad Battlefield.
I've been to this battlefield as I live in NC. Jeff Davis ignored the Carolinas. It had to have been a desperate fight for the confederates. After the battle, New Bern was not a good place to be.
