Bulkhead lights are one of the mainstays of the electrical installation world, but with familiarity comes... well... familiarity!
And so it can be tough to get excited about them when one lands on your desk to review. However the Robus Golf Express has some really clever features to help make installing a breeze and your life as an electrician much easier.
Joe Robinson reviews and installs the Robus Golf Express demonstrating all its versatility and adaptability.

All the other light manufactures should aim for this. NOT use the smallest screws known to man and needing 3 hands to hold it all in place when stood on a ladder in the cold
Brilliant isn't it? 😃
You just need to man up. Or go be a plumber for goodness sake. 😂
Also, (again for other manufacturers) STOP INCLUDING PHILIPS SCREWS, we use pozidriv here...
Ksr 333 and the saxby 95542 are very similar. This one though seems to be built with the installer in mind more so over the others on offer
I install almost exclusively robus golfs for bulkheads and this looks like a winner to me. Only manufacturer I’ve found that doesn’t like to use a different screw for every part meaning I don’t need 12 screwdrivers just to take the bloody thing apart.
Nice bit of kit. Robus are onto a winner
👍👌 Precisely what my church hall has been looking for, for underneath it's entrance canopy! Thanks.
The fold up design of the LED PCB is a first for sure especially when you are attempting to install it on an external roof space like a porch
Definitely not a first, I've installed a couple of bulkheads that are like this, albeit with screws instead of a clip.
Clever isn't it? 😃
@@efixx definitely designed to make the install easy
The merrytek microwave sensor, don't make it too sensitive as it will detect your neighbours movements (don't ask how I know.)
Yep, can see through stud walls/doors .... and also sensitive to wet vegetation unlike a PIR... (when the sensor is used outdoors)
@@TheChipmunk2008 can it trigger if I put it in the microwave.
Sounds like an interesting back story here... 🤔😂
@@efixx I didn't change the sensitivity as it works as a sensor light so if you walk up to the door the lights inside the home come on, no floods needed.
Nice 👍
These have been around for ages
1:44, minor pedantry: not an end box, a through box ;)
Always appreciate minor pedantry! 😃
Are there any rules / guidance recommending these should be installed facing downwards, not outwards from a wall? Asking because I've seen these used to replace the old rectangular fluorescent bulkheads in stairwells and these are blinding when fitted on a wall compared to what was there.
Is there a maximum number of lights that can be controlled on the switched output?
Almost certainly but good question :)
Manufacturer says on their website the maximum load is 400 Watts which is 20 standard luminaries.
Thanks Dean. 👍
What is the refresh time? When it has been triggered, then goes off, how soon can it be triggered again? If someone walks under it while it is still on, does the time reset to the beginning of the selected duration?
I believe it can be retriggered straight away and will count down from the last movement detected. 🤔
@@efixx Yes that is the behaviour of those Merrytek sensors, similar to PIRs
4000k 15W and they should last a long time
What’s the IP rating or did I miss it ?
சிறப்பு👍
Thank you!
6:09 Hmm. . . looks like you could drill a hole in the lid and use it as a dust catcher when drilling out downlights 🙄
Change the colour when it's on 😏
Such a rebel! 😂
shame it not available in 120v for this side of the pond
Start lobbying Robus! 😃
Grary>>> LOL
😂 Bit of a running joke at events that Gary's name is spelt wrong on badges and such, no idea how it keeps happening... 🤣
4:42 It's 4000K that's Natural or Neutral White, not 3000K which is Warm White.
Actually it is not. Natural white is daylight on a sunny summer's day which is around 6000 Kelvin. Some manufacturers might call that cool white, but that 6000 or 6500 is the standard temperature for daylight balanced photographic film which gives natural accurate colour rendition. It's up to each light manufacturer to name their colour temperature. Fluorescent tubes which are sold as daylight balanced are typically between 5000 and 6500 Kelvin.
Why ROBUS copy KOSNIC so much ???
Because they don't have patents and therefore Robust can legally do it?
And are all internal items, including the led array readily available for spare parts to repair when it goes faulty ? You know, to be environmentally friendly ?
Rear entry! Why does that always make me smirk 🫢
Because we never really grow up? 🤔😂
and it's all fun and games until you find that the serial number is : SOAD-3-15-23-7-9-18-12. 🤔😁
pity as well that most wall lights, led's especially, most light shines perpendicular to the wall, straight out....not so much to the ground. So light pollution always worse
