Lelush never actually thought that he would go that far. He joined the competition in order to fill the seat because of lack of contestants due to travel restrictions during that time. So the show director pretty much took random people in the show. Lelush was not the only random person there... there was another translator, dance instructor and an intern. But those people were quickly eliminated. Lelush joined the competition and expect himself to be eliminated too. As Lelush was aware of his growing fanbase, he did say that he would stay until the finals and the fans agreed amongst themselves that they wont vote for him in the finals. So the fans gave everything until he reached top 10, and in the finals they stopped voting for him as for the agreement. After Lelush was freed many company wanted to work with him giving him alot of work opportunities. Lelush hardwork did pay in the end... Fame and opportunities.

Yeah I think the editing single-handedly earned him the votes by displaying him in a more charming and relatable light. If they had just straight up cut those clips of him out or not edited them the same way, it wouldn’t have been so difficult for him to get off.

If there's one thing I learned from this, is that one simple yes or no of your decision could impact your life by a lot. Had he known of the actual consequences of signing the contract, he wouldn't have to go through this. But hey, at least he had garnered quite the fans, so all those sufferings are ot for nothing. Well, he never thought that people will love him towards the competition. He only joined on behalf of filling the empty seats because many contestants was not able to arrive or cancelled their travel to compete. He was not the only random persons to join the competition... another translator, dance instructor and intern was there with him too but was quickly eliminated. Lelush was expecting he would be eliminated quickly because of his intentional poor performance but no it backfired.

Let me just clarify something here. The show was short on the number of contestants/trainees (the years before this one they had had like, 100 for each season). But this season was promoted internationally, and while some contestants from abroad made it to the show, some had troubles with the whole COVID thing going on and could not make it. So the producer team had to find people to fill (they finally had 90 contestants for the show). Lelush was one of the guys. There were more of the people who was convinced by the producer team, not just him. Some signed up to do the background work like music and translating (like Lelush, who was initially there to be the translator for Yuu and Amu (Japanese) from KINGS HOLDING). He did not want to dance/perform and he did not like the fact that their phones/tech were confiscated, BUT he still enjoyed staying with his friends on the show because they really cared about him and tried to make him feel better despite the training. His fans wanted to see more of him so yes, they did keep voting. His rank peaked at number 10 (in top for debuting) after the third public performance, but it was mostly because they were trying to vote away all of the milk votes they had bought (like, you could have more votes if you had bought milk from a company that sponsored the show). His fans did not want to waste all the milk votes. For the final, most of his fans had dropped voting for him and let his rank be. Some still voted, but it was not the majority. The show even had this whole money-donating thing for the trainees to debut, and his fans donated like 1 yuan or something (I remember reading about someone who did that for him). It was pretty funny. (And he has a lot of fans not just because of his look, because he tried to make himself look bad in the show. He has a lot of fans because of his attitude towards the producer team and the show. It's just really funny how he can make people speechless with his "I do what I want" + "dead tired" attitude. They even had to beg him to dye his hair grey to match the suit he had to wear for a performance). And it's not like he got nothing from the show. He had his fame for his clothing line and his model career (like his popularity during the time of the show was unmatched). He has been invited to shows and red carpets and stuff. And he's made a lot of friends from the show, which was really nice. And while I agreed that it was kinda bad that he had to stay and keep on training, but he made the deal. He agreed to sign the contract and it was just his "luck" that he stayed until the final. This kind of shows relies on popularity to decide whether or not someone stays or leaves, so it's not really the show's fault. Or anyone's fault, honesty. His life is now great because the show had got him known. This is just a little bit of facts and information from someone who actually watched the show and follow the trainees (even til now). If you have any more question, I would gladly reply (or do some research to reply, if I don't know something).

He was trapped and he openly said that many times. Near the end he allowed his fans to keep him in the competition but not to the point where he can debut. He always did what his team needed him to do even though he hated it, very admirable.

I followed the whole situation and this was very funny and wholesome. It was like 2 or 3 yrs ago though. P/s: he stopped at rank 17, not 10.
the part where he wrapped the hoodie around his neck was actually disturbing. Those months must have been hell, and he went through it anyway and preformed for his group mates. Such a good person, with a tragic story 😞 i hope he's happy and healthy far away from there

What interesting about this story even more, is the fact that people liked him because he was real. he didn't have perfect dance, or fake smile. he had cold attitude with nutreul face which made people like him, as if he is his own friend. he seems there as most of us on a show like that. also he was 28 at that rime, and it was physical struggle for him to start dancing, singing and peforming at such late age. also fan fact, there are moments at shows when he called his russian friends and told swears in russian bc he hated it there. but he still did his best, and never let his teammates down. the saddest thing was, that he understood that it would be better if instead of him this place was for a boy, who really want to be an artist. he knew that, so he still trained well and always said that he is sorry for having someone's place and taking someone else's opportunities. he did good job to still manage to be funny, doing his best out of consequences. also his most popular song had 0 meaning, but chinese people went crazy for it which is funny. Vlad did a good job and he used his popularity in a good way as he always dreamed to be a model and designer, so he gradually doing well. it was a turning point in his life i guess

I feel the guy deep in my soul😂 Introverted, but when being pushed, can shine more than we think. At the same time, limelight is never for our kind. The more eyes on us, the more burden we feel on our body. The toll is unimaginable for this guy. He's slowly falling into depression. Lelush must be thinking at the time he's signing the contract, that it might be fun. A small gig. Along the line. Plus being constantly persuaded, his judgement could get clouded from the stress. I can totally imagine that he regretted the moment he said 'yes'. And didn't know how to retract it back.

the show wasn't that beneficial to those who wanted to become C-pop artist, so they needed more boys for the show to take place. They literally went begging a whole lot of international boys who they know could dance sing to be part of the show but that still wasn't enough. They then resorted to begging good looking translators for boys and other random people to make up numbers so they can conduct the show challenges properly. The good thing is that the final group of boys were truly talented.

When he saw a camera recording him he thought he was only self recording his daily experiences for future review. Not knowing there was 17 million watching. The room has magazines and water, the producers told him how to win, so he basically has to win the magazine contests or he starves. So after 785 days, he moved to a different place but he was challenged again and a third time, he was interviewing but when moved to a new apartment with no explainations he stripped himself naked and they reveal his nude self to the audience, all 17 million people and some children
I was feeling so scared watching this but towards the end it was a great message for me as I’ve got fired and now I found a new job that this could have been my sign. That losing is maybe winning.

I've heard another beginning of the story. Some competitors couldn't participate for some reasons eventually. So the crew of the show had to find new participants as quickly as possible. That's why they came to him. The guy never wanted to be on the stage. And he did his best not to fail the competition in sake of the other boys in his team. I'm saying this because blatantly claiming him lazy is kinda unfair.

It was not mentioned, but he was one of the oldest contestant (around 25 or 26) and they were training for hours as idols do, that's why he always said he was tired and couldn't keep up with intensity of the work. I do remember his analogy with a tree: he said that if you bend young tree it will adapt, but if you bend old tree - it will break. He was old stuck sad tree 😅

But as time passed, it became obvious to the people that all the boys are just as fake as k-pop ones, training since childhood, soy, unrelatable, without visible flaws or aspirations. And here comes Lelush! An ordinary guy who works ordinary jobs, sometimes not very legal, and simply tries to survive, like everyone else... That's why people voted for him. Even if itmade his life miserable - it would finally bring meaning to this meaningless show, which was getting less and less popular because of how fake it was in the eyes of Chinese people
