I got off the opiates 26 months ago. I'm in the gym 5-6 days a week. It changed my entire life. I'm also in the midwest. Ohio has similar problems.
I’m proud of you bro❤️
Fook yeah keep pushing 💪
keep the demon at bay. never fall back in
You got this. Keep moving forward and don't look back. Stay away from bad influences. Best of luck to you.
What is with the opioids and Ohio we have a problem in NJ too but I don't see it much
Something that nobody talks about is how much impact has on regular Americans that their cities and towns are designed only for car usage, do you know how much it helps to your bodyweight to just walk to do stuff?
Oh interesting! I think thats the difference to us europeans. We have more place for bikes to drive & walk ways & a lot of parks to walk on. I always go by feet or bike when I need to do something that’s not so far away!
@@ZeBiii A small window into my life - I live an hour+ away from my job. I drive 11.5 hrs a week for work commute. Even in my smaller hometown, the only place with sidewalks is IN the downtown area. I must drive even to my parents house (12 minute drive) or I'd be smooshed flat from big trucks and semis. The capital city of my state (where I work) has 690,000 ppl living in it and only has bus routes. They've been trying for YEARS to get some sort of expanded bus route or train/trolley set up, but there isn't the infrastructure or space the way the city has been built. YET my capital city is one of the fastest growing in the country of people moving here from other states (gentrification is happening rampantly). I had a coworker who tried to bike to work (he lived in the city). After one week of cycling, twice did someone inentionally try to run him off the road, and ppl around here will steal a bike right out from underneath you. (My capital city's violence is also increasing as well as homelessness). There are many areas that simply aren't safe to walk to and from :(
@@ZeBiiiyup. European communities were built in an age where everyone walked. So things were walking distance. American communities were much more spread out, so we’re far more reliant on cars here. There’s a reason why some of the lowest obesity rates in America are also found in major northern cities; having to walk more means more calories burned, meaning less weight. Rural life in America is completely car dependent.
Exactly, and apparently from the research I've done - America's car companies years ago lobbied the government to make the economy and architecture revolve around cars. So these places are just baron fast food chain wastelands with nowhere to walk, only drive. It's terrible, not necessarily the sole reason for such a low quality of life and drug addiction, but a major contributing factor. If you don't have practical access to healthy infrastructures (activites, healthy food) you're just stuck, screwed and one of the unlucky ones unless you're the 1 out of 10 million who hits jackpot on the lotto scratcher.
@@ZeBiii Most towns in America are walkable and you can ride a bicycle if you want.
Interesting. In Germany healthy or at least "normal" food is cheaper than fast food. Mostly because the manpower costs per product in a super market are way lower than in a restaurant. For a 500 gram pan-ready meal from the super market with spinach noodles, wild salmon fillet, carrots, onions, parsley, dill and chives, I pay about 3 euros, or about $3.20. A small meal at McDonalds on the other hand costs about 10 Euros.
Stark gesagt
The federal government in Germany has declared obesity a MAJOR problem in Germany. 53% of adults in 2022 were overweight or obese. Germany should not be lecturing other countries about healthy eating.
@@cpps90ify I did not jugdge at all and overweight means a BMI of more than 25. But if you want it: - I can't remember ever seeing people looing like those shown in the video in Germany before. Those basically do not really exist in public everyday life here. - I was in the US and in Canada for several weeks and it was indeed almost impossible to find normal food while fastfood/junkfood was available everywhere. Just accept that this is a big, big difference.
Those prices are amazing
But we are the greatest country in the world. 2 times World War winners. Kicked Germanys ass in war and soccer. Trump 2024!!! 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 100 years ago, Europe threw us out like trash and we built the greatest country this world has ever know.

This is so wonderful, Please do more of these. People should be able to share their stories like this to better themselves and they're community.
Just like the ghettos in the cities, which are talked about a bit more, there are so many areas in rural America that are suffering unimaginably. Not everyone in these places is without blame, but just like in the cities, the circumstances can make it hard to break out and do well. Throw in crap influences, drugs everywhere, etc., and it just becomes a nightmare. It is a real bummer.
Ghettos receive 100x the funds and attention rural America does.
@@taylemgames2652 And rural America receives 100X the sympathy that "ghettos" do. The crack epidemic in the inner cities have always been responded to with criminalization - arresting and jailing users and dealers. Every light that has shined on the rural drug epidemic has always been focused on the root of the problem, which is something that has never been afforded to urban drug issues. So those funds that you mention are going towards a bigger, more aggressive police force in urban areas who only want to jail all involved, while rural residents are offered better and more effective alternatives like rehabilitation.
@@taylemgames2652rural areas are ghetto. No the ghettos don't recieve more and if they do its becuase they live in the city and the city collects more tax dollars than people that live in small towns or rural areas. As a matter of fact rural areas take more tax dollars than they put in. Up keeping the roads that head into rural areas isn't cheap.

I can’t believe I missed you man I love your videos! But,!I live in Huntington, WV and even tho the state is considered the most unhealthy there’s still a massive gym scene here. Back in my hometown of Gilbert, WV there’s coal miners that work 50-60 hours a week but still go to the gym and compete in powerlifting. I think the biggest is we’re fighting so many battles such as addiction, work and how depressing this state is as a whole. Everybody here knows someone fighting addiction, it’s in my family and countless other. I’m 21 and my generation is for sure changing the stereotype, everybody I know is pushing for more people to get in the gym and we are really showing how fun and beneficial the gym can be to everyone no matter what age. Thank you for coming to our area and showing people that there’s reasoning to the claim we’re the unhealthiest state!
Love the energy man

I live in wayne wv which is about 30 minutes from huntington and I am often in huntington to visit family. I have an aunt battling addiction and started at an early age as well. Jesse that was actually a very amazing video... I can't agree more with it's all about that mindset and a strong helpful community goes a very long way!
12:33 cool shirt! And also thanks for the video and awareness. I hope things will change soon for those that are struggling. Kind regards from the Netherlands.
Spaniard here (Europe). We are aware about the obesity rates in the States but is the epidemic of fentanyl so real? Like, we usually hear about hollywood and Kingston, but is it so common in the rest of America? It's shocking
It's extremely common everywhere especially in poor places. The wealthy places are on pills and the poor places are on fent and meth
Yes we have drug addicts in every town in America. It's been this way for a long time.
I think in areas like this video takes place for sure. Lots of manual labor jobs, people get injured, pushed pain meds, get hooked and need a cheaper option. Probably other ways it happens too but fortunately I just read about it online and don't know anyone personally going through this shit.
It's really bad.
It's a serious problem. It impacts all walks of life.
I just left WV a few days ago on a family visit. Very little to do, drug problems( scrips and and street) lots of fast food. This is such an accurate video.
Thank you Jesse for all your videos and all you do. Keep up the great work buddy.
i live within spitting distance of huntington and i can attest that everything they say is true. it's not just that city though, what some of you might not realize is that huntington is merely the epicenter; its drugs and general unhealthiness affects 100s of miles worth of towns and cities. gyms and physical recreation are expensive, few, and far between. fast food is everywhere you turn, and the closest thing to a health foods store is the occasional kroger. all you have in terms of being healthy is your own willpower, and the environment chips away at that too. our strength here is helping each other, it's what the minority of us who are healthy depend on to break the mold. thanks for shedding a little light on this place. when you're in it, it can be difficult to see it getting better

Too much information on the internet for people to remain ignorant. Those fast food meals are expensive. You can buy plenty of healthy food for what he paid for those meals.

I live in WV an hour from Huntington. I would say one reason is the weather. It's cold half the year and we have very few gyms. Fast food restaurants grow like weeds and there aren't many healthy alternative restaurants around. When covid hit, a lot of studios like Pilates and yoga closed down and never reopened.

Fantastic video shining a light on the country’s real problems.
W content. Would you do a video on injuries? lol, recently smoked my lower back.
Every exercise is a lower back exercise if u do it wrong enough😅
Had lower back issues for years. The hardest part is going to be not pushing it. I stopped traditional deadlifts and heavily modified my squats to still stimulate growth with lighter loads (slow eccentric and pause at the bottom). You can still workout safely, but the hardest part is just being willing to adjust your exercises and the numbers you want to hit.

Great video, thank you for sharing these real life stories. I hope it inspires people to stay strong, never give up and be there for each other, support one another. And also appreciate what you have more if you don’t have to struggle like that. It kinda breaks my heart to see that gov. policies in W.V. (in my opinion) have opened these doors to poverty, boredom, unhealthy habits, addiction, chemical supps… Live is apparently so expensive and/or jobs being so underpaid you have to work crazy hours…(like the guy in the coal mines). I hope the community can build on something together to enable more activity and support.
