It had to end as the US overthrew the legitimate Ukraine Government The US / NATO breached the agreement that it would not encroach on Russia borders Instead it surrounded Russia and desires to be on its border, How would the USA like Russia or China to set a Military base in Mexico. The US is a threat to Russia. In addition to that the Russian speaking Ukraine people in the Donbas region had been shelled for some7 years - No one criticized Margaret Thacher when she sent the military in to rescue the people in the Falkland Islands - who did not wish to be part of Argentina nor be forced to speak Spanish. Yet the disciples of the US and its propaganda machine criticize Putin for essentially doing the same thing - Rescuing the people from the districts of Luhansk and Donetsk. I know the history of the region very well - My (late) mother was Russian and born in Ukraine on November 1, 1920 I recognize USBS when I hear it Incidentally My (Late dad) was born in Kent County MI USA - and served with the US ARMY (And not that it is ARMY and not Army - there is a difference between the two that ZOMBIFIED uneducated people do not know nor understand.

I worked for Lockheed when the C5 was being designed. The question was asked "What is the largest aircraft that can be built". The answer in the company paper was that "Even with the materials we have now there was no limit to the size of the aircraft. Giver an efficient powerplant the C5 could have been built in the 1930's". The real limiting factor is the ground area that can be made available.
yeah, that was what I was thinking, especially near the start when that guy was going on about how difficult it was, etc. well the truth is the formula's that need to be abided by for engineering plane specs and tolerances have been known for quite some time. Any large aircraft manufacturer could build something a little larger than the 225
@@psycronizer The 225 was essentially a scrapped military aircraft that was salvaged. The question is there enough demand to build one at todays cost. I think the Russians destroyed it knowing this.

I live close to, and in line with a major runway and it used to fly over my house several times over the years .... at about 200 feet ! Like a total solar eclipse .... I will truly miss the old girl ! Ukraine - fight the b*stards and win !
Where ever in the world i been at the airport when the Antonov came in or landed the air - the time -and the people breath stand still - it was not a single sound and all glued to the window for to see it.... with a big amusing and pleasure in the heart.
I used to work at Boeing in Everett. They make 747's there, along with 777, 787, 767's. It is a huge facility (largest by volume) in the world. I wish I could have seen the largest plane in world (AN225) in the biggest aircraft production facilities. The Antonov holds many world records, I doubt something bigger will come later to take the title. There is a 2nd AN225 partially constructed. Maybe salvaging parts off destroyed plane, along with parts from #2, the AN225 can return to the skies.

I got to see it in Fargo, ND. It was a snowy day and they had to stop traffic on the road that runs near the end of the runway. They did this because the snow "blizzard" it would create would make visibility while driving down to zero. It was an impressive takeoff. They were transporting a large piece of Catapiller machinery and had to refuel before going on to their destination.

That last part about Mriya flying for 50 years was especially sad. She visited my city’s airport a few times and always drew a crowd of avgeeks no matter what time of day or night it was. I hope Antonov can build another one.

The demand for huge oversize cargo is there, with international investment it is still possible given 2nd unfinished airframe is still intact.

I had the good fortune to walk the length of the cargo bay of this aircraft from nose to tail while it was on static display in 1991, then see it take a demo flight. It was parked next to a B-52 Stratofortress which looked like a medium-sized fighter jet next to it. Immense is barely adequate to describe it. RIP.

I was lucky to see this lovely machine in 1989 when it visited the Abbotsford International Airshow in Canada. While its loss cannot overshadow the tragic situation in Ukraine, it is a shame it will not fly again. The only hope is that the second airframe can be finished into a complete aircraft someday.

i am wondering how rare it is to be sighted in the west. i guess i am very fortunate to have seen it in airports throughout east asia a couple of times over the past 2 decades. thought it was Russian until today. sad to know of its end. truly a majestic plane. the first time i saw it i thought it was a testament of a new exciting era. somehow i feel that this marks the end of that era and the borth of another. may God watches over us all and keep us.

It wasnt Ukraine it was soviet, the name of the design bureau was after the Russian Antonov, the location of the factory would have been even in Uzbikstan or any other SSR republic. almost everything in that plane is Russian.

Some aircraft are like a "piece of art". And the An225 is for sure a masterpiece. It is sad that humanity lost it! Let us hope that the second airframe - which is still available - can be rebuilt in a "new" An225. I heard a chinese company may be willing to do this.
At 20:40 the narrator says the takeoff speed is over 850 kph. Which is around 500 mph. 😂😂

A quick search reveals takeoff speed was between 290 and 320 kph depending on weight.

My company charted this aircraft in 1991, if memory serves me, for a very special and bulky high-value load. I want to say that it landed in Seattle on Boeing's runways. I don't think 1991 could be correct, though, as Bill Clinton was lamenting the fact that it flew here with our cargo. This is a terrible loss, not only for the aviation world but for mankind. The AN-225 was a magnificent beast that I have trouble seeing replaced by any company or country.

I have seen it once, flying high above me at about 35k feet, could see all 6 engines and its distinct tail
i saw it twice at least, once while landing; a truly majestic sight to behold and another time parked alongside several jumbo jets which it totally amazingly dwarfed. truely a remarkable sight to behold. never thought it would see such end.

The Ruslan is actually designated as AN-124, not AN-224.

the AN-225 set the record for how big an airplane can be. This is a record that may NEVER be broken. If these things were put into production, they would have to make new airports that are big enough for these giants to land in. The law requires that airplanes are inside a hanger when they are worked on, so they will have to make larger hangers. Will there ever be enough money to make all this stuff? I wouldn't bet on it. The Russians attacked the Antonov factory last month and the AN-225 got destroyed. It is unlikely another one will be made.

It is quite sad to see such a pinnacle of aviation achievement be struck down like this. I watch those videos of it in awe, as it parted mist and roared through the air. My cousin saw it land in Western Australia, and I hoped I would one day. The Ukrainian Government said it will build another if they get out of this. By Crikey, let's make it happen again!
