I've been shooting slingshots for over 75 years. I think that this tutorial was the best i have ever seen on you tube. Keep up the great work, and stay safe.
How old are you?
it's good, but it isn't comprehensive, GP John us a pro, but he isn't giving all his secrets away; leave you to figure the rest out
@@Jmbr-eh6xr We can't skip the practice and we learn those little secrets while practice.
@@raytry69 One of the things they don't tell you about when shooting a slingshot is that the slingshot has to be custom size to yourself; width of the fork and size of your face affects where the anchor point should be, few millimetres off means the difference between a pin point accurate shot and a miss, When GP J says the anchor point he uses is at the corner of the lip, that is what is right for him with the width of slingshot frame he uses, if someone else picks up that slingshot, they may not get as accurate a shot, when shooting slingshots and bows, the thing is your body is a part of the weapon; the reference and anchor points are the foresight and rear iron sights respectively, except in a slingshot the foresight which is the reference point is higher that the rear sight in the case of a Rifle or handgun, it may seem a bit weird, but that's how it works Once you get those nailed down, you will get accurate shots that can put meat in the pot
@@Jmbr-eh6xr Thanks for the good explanation. If you have more of those little secrets, I'd like to hear them. Thanks.
One of the lessons I learned shooting Archery was the importance of FOLLOW THROUGH after the shot, and I haven't seen it addressed in any how to shoot a slingshot videos. Which is the subconscious tendency to anticipate the shot and relaxing one or both of your hands and/or the body position prematurely, also called peeking. The fix is to hold your entire hand and body positions until the shot hits the target. Then relax. Also allow a brief time interval between the shots. To allow the muscles to recover and your brain to process the prior shot. Don't hurry and instantly begin reloading for the next shot thus blurring all the shots together!
For me this is the kind of video that makes KZhead so much better than television. Nice one
This is the best instructional video for the novice shooter that I have seen to date. Thank you for taking time to make it and more videos for novice, intermediate and advanced shooters will be appreciated.
This was the most helpful tutorial. The reference points and anchor points were beyond helpful. Thanks
Just wanted to say thanks for all the info and tips. Following your instructons I have a solid framework within which I can see myself steadily improoving, thank you.
Thank you, this is the best tutorial I have been able to find. It should make a great difference in my accuracy. will watch again to get what I missed the first time.
I feel fortunate to have found you and this video ive been searching for a more challenging way to hunt Small game and by god i think I've done it thanks for providing a clear and consice step by step introduction to the craft of putting meat in the stew pot .
Absolutely brilliant video. I'm new to catapult shooting. Got a flat band (scout) and had no idea. After watching this and half hour practice I can now hit a two pence piece at 6 metres 8 times out Of 10. Thanks John
Wow! After this video I went from not being able to hit my shed in the back yard to putting 15 shots in a row in the size of a golf ball from 10 meters. I'm amazed at how accurate a slingshot can be.
I Know Right!!!!
best video ever to cover this subject. many thanks John
Decent bloke who talks facts in clear English. Looking forward to receiving my new bronze ppmg tomorrow 👍🏻
Man before i used one cheap slingshot that i couldn't use and it broke and now i found your channel and you motivate me to not give up. Not so long ago i purchased a proper slingshot and it got here. I love the feeling of a good slingshot and thank you for your amazing tutorials/guides 😁
Excellent clear tutorial giving controlling techniques to accurate shooting. Thanks John.
I followed your direction and my aim improved! Thank you John!
good job bro... im a begginer , and i tried to find tutorials for aiming ,and after 7days i finaly find u :D u helped me alot. thank you.
Cheers John, I'm just about to get a catapult and this will help tremendously. Well done.
Just got my first catapult yesterday and set up a catch box! Followed your advice and what a difference Thnaks🙏
Well made video! I didn't think about the pinch. Its helped me tremendously! Thanks!
Excellent instructions. I'M a newbie, sounds simple enough. Thanks John
Just started using one and was very impressed with the whole Video - Very informative with enough detail to figure everything out for a new started like me - Was aware of reference point as being obvious but had not thought about Anchor points before
thanks john been following for 2 years or so and ur videos as just amazing, u explane things so well!
Thank you for the great tutorial. There was no internet and no instructions came with the slingshots I purchased years ago, nor was there anyone to ask for help learning to shoot the slingshot accurately so it was point and shoot inaccurately with no idea what to do to improve. I had no idea about anchor point and reference point but enjoyed many hours of fun regardless. I will put your information to use as soon as I decide which slingshot to purchase or make.
Brilliant......Best video I've seen on aiming. It's really helped me a lot. Thanks.
Thanks John. Practicing these points and it’s really paying off. Once I picked a consistent reference point and discovered my own stance, it made all the difference. Good job I have no shortage of beer cans for targets 😂. Cheers 👍👍
AWESOME video, sir!! VERY well explained!! Can’t wait to try this!! Even for a longer video everything you said was to the point and helpful. Thank you for sharing this terrific information!!
Hands Down,The BEST Aiming Video for Slingshots ! (I'm in USA,always called them that) Thanks!
Dude ) just received my first slingshot today (20 Amazon flat band ott) and watched your video yesterday, first shot at 8 yards , full band, not cut to power yet , bang on vertical every shot , within 12 shots found anchor and was hitting bully ) chuffed to bits , just got to cut bands n work on consistency when time allows , would of been completely lost without your vids ) many thanks)))
Loved this helped me out loads!!!i noticed after watching this I was rotation the pouch and it was casing my shots to be off target!
Brother, your video has helped me tremedously! Many, many thanks; wishing you all the best and continued success!
Good teaching for beginners like myself. Thank you so much! I learned a lot!
Thanks John, very informative! I'm just starting out was shooting this evening on my hand made natural ott and the band broke, my mate lent me his and first shot fired it into my knuckle... So bloody painful, but I won't let it out me off!!!
Great video mate, it really helped me dial in my group shots on target 🎯
Thank you Mr Webb, detailed and inspirational, fantastic how you share your knowledge, your the man.
Great video. I ordered a PPMG and a PPSG. It arrived today. I enjoy how it shoots. I will practice more to find my anchor point and reference point. Thanks and please keep making more videos.....Derek Az...
Always great to watch your videos! Thanks for teaching us to be better!!!
Most useful advice on reference points and anchor points... thank you
Excellent video. I haven't as yet, shot a catapult, but I used to shoot a recurve bow. Exactly the same rules apply. Nice one.
thank you for the fantastic tutorial! u are literally why i got into slingshots again. happy days.
Thanks for making this video, if just started using a slingshot and this was a huge help to learn how to keep some sort of consistency while practicing 🙂👍
Hey buddy. Yesterday I was shooting a can. Hitting every so often. I watched your video. Now I’m hitting the can 8 out of 10 shots consistently. Thanks a million. Ps. I shoot as you say gansta style lol
Thanks man, 7 years later, this is still helping new shooters like me. Picked up a$20 amazon special to see if i would like it or not and I do!! I need stronger over the top bands and not sure where to look for them but this was a great help. I was shooting on target 10 feet away within 5 shots.
There’s a link in the video description to buy Gamekeeper John’s various bands which are all strong enough to hunt with.
You make that look simple, thanks John
Thank you for the time you take to be clear on explaning. I am interested in learning and found your vidio very helpful.
The best ever full-on, drawn-out, HOW TOO do it. This is what it's all about. Thank you Gamekeeper John.
Good video! Ive got one of the modern type catapults with an srm extension. Im useless with it. This video has now tsught me how to use it properly so my aim will be on target every time. Well done.
I have just brought my first catapult and came across your video. Thank you for such a detailed video. I have found this so helpful and going to put in lots of practice in using your helpful techniques. Have subscribed Cheers Mike :)
Thanks for the pointers. I'm going practice, practice, practice!!
Great video. Watching this in 2021 and that "stay safe" at the end had me glancing to when this was first published. OMG! 😆
Thanks for the help in your 📹 just bought one of your bloodstopper catapult really impressed 👏
I'm very new to slingshots. At the moment I am a good 5 inches off target. I'm still working out my reference focus. This is going to take a LOT of practice !
wonderful wonderful wonderful! I enjoy that you are not telling people that there is only one way. You are right that as long as you are hitting the target you are doing what suits you. I have taught rifle and handgun marksmanship and my classes were very similar to this class. It was nice for me to have it broken back down from grade one and worked up from there. I would love to be one of the guys that can not think and just shoot but I think there are years ahead of me before that. So I am going to take your thumb to cheek method and see where that takes me. Thanks again for your videos. Now if I can use your other video and attach my pouch and straps then we will see how I do. ha ha
Great video and explanation of sighting with a slingshot
Great vid! I have no idea how I ended up watching this...but very glad I did... going to buy a slingshot now... G'day from Brisbane!
i havent shot a slingshot in 18yrs and ive just ordered one of yore slingshots 😆 and this is a great tutoral on how to use it cant wait for it to arrive and have some fun 😃
I'm new to shooting a catapult or, as we call it the United States, a slingshot. Your videos are very helpful! Many thanks!
Thanks for a very in depth video mate, well done. 👍
Very good tutorial on aiming John! Thank you for the good details! Billy
Thank you for the in depth lesson well done sir.
This man his the best I've ever seen, Thay can show you how to aim and how to shoot but this guy has been doing this over 20 years, so it's like being a dart player, it takes years of practice and dedication so it's fine when your young but forget it when your older because you won't find the time to practice that much with family commitments
Good video. Well explained. I'm keen to get practicing with mine now
Thank you! Finally a video that a beginner can understand
Great instructional video...easy to understand...thank you!
Great job! Hopefully I will be able to do one of these soon... Josh
watched once. 1st Try 1st Bullseye... Thank you for this nice Video. Best Video for explain how to aiming ...Keep going on with you Videos. All best from Germany
Hello buddy, I speak and understand very little English, that's why I use translation program! Your video is the only one that I understood and that also helped me to pull my slingshot properly! Now I know how to reliably find my reference point in order to hit well. Every new slingshot is now shot according to this principle. I'm really excited!! Thanks for your effort with the video 👌👌👌 Of course I left the subscription there! Best regards from Germany Kalle
Thanks very much, Sir, for this precious and excellent video and your time as well :D!
Welcome from Texas!!! Great instructional video!!!
WoW for me this is upto Top Notch level!! Like a condensed version of a How to ! As Always Jon superlative video. When i started i just couldn't hit a barn door, now i can, not only that im learning how to zoom in a bit now, Xperiance IS a kindred teacher & u Jon have embodied this, brilliantly put together & articulated concise compilation of Verbal & Physical demonstration 😉👏👏👏 Very very well presented. Rock on me old mucka 🤯 🥳 it's late evening now, but to be sure im'a get out first thing in morning n put this into practice.. Cheers & Thanks for your time in this Explicit vid...
I think you have identified the essence. Thanks for your time. You're very unselfish: Complimenti.
As a beginner, your video is really of such a help! Now I don't have to "guess" anymore! Thanks!
Finally someone explained so clear to me how to aim with a slingshot.
Very much needed for newbies. They'll do it correctly now and get more pleasure out of their catties. THWACK!
Excellent video ,i know this video was years ago but so much imfo. Thanks from Canada
great video. i have always been instinctive for aiming.
Brilliant video started hitting a target at 15 buds straight off after watching just got to practice now
love it john these will help me a lot that one already cleared up a few sticking points bring it on cheers aidy
got my first flatband catty from you and this vid helps a lot
Love this 🖤. Excellent for tutoring My Youth group! Thanks GK John. Gangsta!!
Very helpful tutorial. Thank you very much.
John, Thank you so much for your videos! As a kid, I never could grasp how to aim a catapult, but recently, with your help, I have found a new love for shooting. I have been practicing tons and was even able to bag my first rabbit with a perfect shot to the head from about 30 feet. I hope to get more into the sport and maybe even comps eventually! Cheers!
After watching this video I was able to hit what I was aiming at. Now I just need to get a better slingshot. Thanks for the help!
Thank you for the details!
Just got myself a catapult and have been amazed how accurate and powerful there are from when i was a kid, however i could not shot a box let alone a 50 pence piece target but i have watched this video twice and spent hours today and i am now able to shot a coke bottle lid 3 out of 5 times from 20/30 ft so thanks for this video gamekeeper john.
Great video mate do all the different ones as you're saying they would be very helpful for all beginners especially me
Great video John. I've learnt so much from you over the years mate. A good mate of mine wants to get into cattys, so I'm giving him my PPSG to have a go with. I've recommended that my mate watches this clip. You can explain and demonstrate stuff far better than me bruv. 👍🙌
Think John is decent, the help he is doing to teach guys to shoot good is of help to no end, but he isn't giving away all the tricks of the trade, I think he is leave some shit for folk to figure out, and that stands to reason, you got to work for it, I think I have sussed it out though
This was so cool It really answered a lot of questions I had as someone who is totally new to slingshots/catapults
I just watched this and am now hitting a 4" tile from 10 meters consistently!! Thanks, it's a great feeling to finally be shooting accurately 👍👍
Excellent video instruction. Thanks it's really helped.
Very good video - thank you for the training and helping my understanding greatly
This guy is awesome..i just got into slingshot shootings, ive bought and returned 3 different slingshots. I just couldn't get any grouping or aimed incorrectly. Today my NST DELUX METAL 3.4 INCH OVER THE TOP BANDS STYLE CAME...IN MY FIRST 5 SHOTS, I HAD 3 MAJOR FRAME HITS..I WAS THINKING THE SLINGSHOT WAS JUNK..NOW I WONDER IF ITS MY BAD AIMING..BEFORE I SEND IT BACK ..IM GOING TO APPLY THE TIPS FROM THIS VIDEO.. IM SO VERY GRATEFUL TO YOU SIR..
Nice. I've been looking for an all encompassing video on aiming techniques for a while now and this video absolutely covers everything (in my amateur view anyway). Thanks John, keep up the good work!!
Great vid thanks. Long but worth it. Will check out a few more from your channel. I just won my first slingshot (Marksman Folding) and plan to take a few bunnies here in NZ!
Superb tuition from the Daddy!!!
I can now hit a rather slim Palm Tree rather accurately now after watching this video. I was using a Simple Shot Scout XT. Shooting TTF. Thank you very much
a very big help in sighting...tnx John from Philippines :)
Very helpful for target shooting! Thanks!
I'm definitely saving this video, you've answered a lot of questions I've had as a beginner shooter. I thought just looking down the bands would work on every slingshot but was struggling on my natural fork slingshots. With this new info, now I can tune in the natural forks I just made. Thanks!
cheers john ..thanks for the pointers and taking the time to explain nice 1 bud \
