"In five centuries of sacred polyphony, Western musical art has accumulated an incalculable series of masterpieces, which the Catholic Church rightly calls "its treasure", because they were born within its culture, destined for its liturgical activity, imbued with its spirituality.
Furthermore, they are endowed with a characteristic that is authentic art, universality, for which not only are they understood and admired by other cultures as well, but they impose themselves universally as models from which musical art must be inspired and compared if wants to produce other masterpieces.
The musical chapel of the Basilica of St. Mark in Milan offers an anthology of this treasure, which ranges from the pure polyphonies of the fifteenth century to those of absolute perfection of the sixteenth century, to the turgid ones of the nineteenth century, to those of the twentieth century interpreting a our tormented spirit and yet avid for interior simplicity.

  • Listening to this in the background. Started to hear Stavinsky's Pater Noster!! .. MEMORIES. I sang in a top university choir in the 1970s. That was one of the pieces we performed well. THANK YOU for this music.... I studied these kinds of pieces in my classes as a music major --- AND I love God with ALL my Heart. ... So Blessed! 🕊

    • become catholic - beauty in its true function - as a pointer to the divine - is an integral part of christianity too, that protestants unfortunately discarded a long time ago, because of their fear of making an icon of that which is divine.

    • @@Dd4V I have to disagree. As a Methodist, I can say we have a long traditional of beautiful choral music. A lot of the standard hymns still sung today were written by Charles Wesley.

    • @@Dd4V I'm a catholic. But you can't put all protestants under the same hat. Here in Europe protestant have BEAUTIFUL music, and protestant composers have been a mainstay of the greatest classical music (Bach, Haendel...)

Dumnezeu ne poate asculta pe toți deodată, miliarde, nu unul câte unul. Hristos a murit pentru fiecare dintre noi, ca și cum fiecare ar fi fost singurul om din lume. Dacă Îl vom iubi pe Tatăl așa cum Îl iubește Fiul, Sfântul Duh va răsări în noi (C.S. Lewis, Creștinism pur și simplu, Ed. Humanitas, București, 2023, p. 195). Amăgirile sunt copilărești: ne imaginăm (ne prefacem) că jucăriile prind viață. Confundăm ficțiunea cu realitatea, divertismentul cu spiritualitatea, banalul cu esențialul, otrava cu leacul. Ne protejează îngerul păzitor, nu mascota Tommy Ketchup. Ne proteajează harul (care nu va dispare) din Biserică (care nu poate fi distrusă). Fiecare lună ar putea fi ultima. Să trăim fiecare lună ca și cum am mai avea doar patru săptămâni de trăit: cum ne-am ruga în această împrejurare, cum am participa la Liturghie, cum am alege ce să facem? Să nu fim triști, necazurile sunt în spate, în față e doar învierea. Din moment ce am fost iertați, e momentul să începem să iertăm. La final, răsplata va fi identică: bucuria de a fi cu Domnul. Să Îi arătăm lui Hristos că El este pentru noi mai prețios decât o mie de lumi. Răul nu ne va cuceri niciodată. Nu cei ce se cred înțelepți sunt înțelepți, ci cei simpli, dar credincioși. Spinii din Galileea sunt înalți de 1 metru, nimeni nu are nici o scuză că nu i-a observat (Craig Keener, Comentariu cultural-istoric al Noului Testament, Ed. Casa Cărții, Oradea, 2023, p. 85). Dumnezeu așteaptă de la noi o recoltă bună: multiplicarea grăuntelui de 30, 60, 100 de ori. Omul e absorbit fie de Bine, fie de rău. Până să apară spicul, neghina seamănă cu spicul. Împărăția Lui poate începe în anonimat și culmina în slavă, precum arborele de muștar dintr-o sămânță mică (cea de orhidee era și mai mică, dar necunoscută multora atunci). Să facem toate eforturile pentru a pune mâna pe Comoară. Nu căutăm perle în Marea Roșie, ci Raiul. Hristos poate repeta minunile oricând, cu noi. Vom fi întăriți, precum sfântul Cuthbert și mulți alții, care au făcut minuni în numele Lui (Vlad Benea, Vieţile Sfinţilor Ortodocşi din Apus, Ed. Renaşterea, Cluj, 2006, p. 229). A auzit îngerii cântând minunat la înmormântarea monahului Aidan și a decis să se dedice lui Hristos. Să meargă pe calea strâmtă a mântuirii. Noaptea se ruga în mare, în ritmul valurilor. La fel de plini de credință au fost și Adalbert, Ansgar, Beatrix, Braulio, Dagobert, Donivald, Ermelinda, Frederick, Genevieve, Ildefons, Isberga, Kenan, Placid, Ranulf, Remigius, Ymar.

    • i got a A in music history and i still love both history and music. and some of the most beautiful music ie as non pop but classical is being done today. you just need to see karl jenkins, eric whitacre and a thousand more. music with tech is ever more challenging and engaging. i love it all from the beginning too.

  • Nice music. I think right before hearing this music, I saw an nbc correspondant talking about Hamas War; if it's him, this music will show/prove that God exists. Years, ago, he said G-d did not exist. Church/Israel Inside Jew's (Roms. 2:28,29 Cols.3:3) faith in JESUS is still alive. The best is, and is to be up to y3k/6760. Many blessings. Psalms 20 & 60.
