I think Dallas made this move to have cap space this summer, they can either keep Kyrie if it works or have cap space to get someone better with Luka
My guess if harden doesn’t stay with 76ers they’ll try to pursue him, harden has shown he can play as the second option and I think mavs are desperate to get someone with Luka

For the Nets, adding Dinwiddie and Fin Smith is going to be insanely good defensively for Brooklyn. Watching their games, their offense is fantastic but they struggle guarding the perimeter. When you have Durant and Claxton holding down the interior and can also switch onto perimeter; having Diwnwiidie, DFS, and Ben Simmons on the perimeter defense is ELITE

This trade makes no sense. Why would Luka want to play with another ball dominant guard? The only way this would help is if Luka gets hurt again and Kyrie can be like Brunson and get some playoff dubs. L trade for Mavs, W trade for nets.

seems like people always say 'there is only one ball', but the players still make it work. unless kyrie goes absolutely nuclear on luka, they will be fine. he has been the 2nd star his whole career, whereas luka is unselfish. the mavs also need someone to takeover without luka, since they are like the worst team, whenever he isnt playing. dfs is probably the biggest loss for the mavs though...
Also helps Luka from getting double teamed the whole game.

Basically the Mavs are doing the same with Luka as with Dirk. They changed the team tons of times until it worked out for one ring. Now it's same for Luke, they had Porsingis, Dinwiddie, Brunson, now Kyrie...they don't seem to have any long term plan that they follow.

Mavs fan here. We bailed out the nets. Im 50/50 on this trade. Hope itvworks out. I think this improves the mavs in close games specially in free throws shooting, we bad on fts. Maybe luka wont be doubled as much now.

It is WAY easier to find decent role players than all-nba guards. Even if you dont think this trade changes much for the mavs (and I'd heavily disagree with that), it is going to be much easier for them to find the role players they need than it was to get Luka a running mate. Mavs are in a good position now

I don't think our Mavs are done making moves yet. I can see Tim Jr being on the move for a key defensive piece.
Defense went from top 5 last season to bottom 5 this year. IF Kyrie extends and we keep Wood, those two + Luka is a much better core to build around. It’ll be easier to plug in the holes we need with defensive minded players.
As a Dallas sports fan, we need this. The cowboys let us down every year and the Rangers sucks, hopefully Mavs do something in the playoffs

I think the mavs might get a little better because their main weakness is when luka goes off the court they look like a gleague team. Now when luka is resting the 12-15 minutes he does, kyrie can just do whatever he wants and they wont fall off a cliff. Defensively this looks bad though for the mavs, they just have to outscore their opponents at this point.

Key is Bullock and Green must quickly develop into reliable 3&D options. Wood and Morris could handle the frontcourt, the wing defense is the question coz Finney-Smith was the guy in that position.

I get the move; Dallas needs a facilitator, floor general scorer type of player when Luka is on the bench. When they play together, Kyrie can be the scoring two guard. As long as they have defense at the 3 and 5 it can work IMO

Sharing the ball means that Luka's numbers will go down. Less usage rate will also lead to that. Offense will probably flow with either as the primary ball handler. Defense... no comment. Luka doesn't need a primary ball handler as a second star. Due to Luka 's game and the way the Mavs built the team, he needs 3 and D in all positions but the PG. They were paying 15m over the salary cap before this trade with several 3 and D players, basically all but McGee. Luka needs better 3 and Ds, not someone to take his role.

If you watched a Mavs game, Luka is double teamed all game. This stops once Kyrie is on the floor. That offense is dangerous
As good as Dinwiddie has been this year, Kyrie is worlds better. He’s having the best season for his career and an All Star this year. This helps Mavs on offense tremendously. Specially in the plays where defense gets better and game slows down. Mavs will have two of the best ISO players in the league. That’s huge in the playoffs when Luka has basically been carrying but running out of steam at end of games. He can now sit down and watch Kyrie cook.

I’m a nets fan no matter what. I really want to see what kd thinks of this and whether or not he wants to stay. At least this team we got now is a much taller team and we still got moves to make with the picks and contracts like Harris, Seth and patty as well as the sophmores(outside of cam Thomas). So we still got lots of moves we can make. This team will definitely be better defensively.

I think this is the Mavs taking a shot at getting their second guy in order to draw in free agent signings to make a run next year. Hopefully both guys can coexist otherwise mavericks are gonna be even farther back in developing a championship winning team around Luka.
